Airport story time... I used to do high power rocketry a lot; one of the downsides of that hobby is the residue can trip the explosives sensors when they swab you... which is exactly what happened to me over a decade ago. I did pre-warn them before they swabbed me about the chance of a positive detection and why so they didn't go full freak out but did get armed escort and questioned during extra swabs. Since then I get "randomly" selected for searches EVERY time I am at the airport even when just waiting around to pick someone up or drop off in the non security areas before bag drops. Haven't had to fly with a firearm/ammo yet and dreading the "random" check when I do; thinking will need to ask them to take me to a private room for the search if they haven't already assumed have a rifle and thus come out heavy.
