An important and very correct recommendation, which I can only confirm. A small X-t30 and the X-T5 plus a few small lenses that you like. Tudor's selection is again very good thanks to his practice-oriented and experienced selection. It's a combination that you're happy to put in your bag and encourages you to take photos. This is a critical firmware update for the X-T5 IMO. We returned from our trip to Florida and the everglades before the firmware release, and I was frustrated photographing birds in af-c mode. I added the new firmware shortly after we returned from our trip and did a brief test, and I immediately noticed an AF improvement. Not Sony good as you say, but Sony can't match the Fuji colors. I have had good success with the Sigma 23mm, 30mm, and 56mm 1.4 lenses. I will probably purchase the upcoming Fuji 16-50mm 2.2-4.8 replacement for the long in the tooth 18-55mm 2.8-4 lens. Your video is spot on!

The new Fuji 16-50 is F2.8-4.8, not f2.2-4.8. I didn't want to get your hopes up lol, or maybe it was a typo 🙃

The X T5 is certainly better value than the X100VI. The Voigtlander is super with it, and the Fuji 18mm f1.4 is top notch.

They aren't comparable, the x100 cameras are specialty cameras with built in ND filters and high speed flash sync. I have a X-T2 and an x100S, I'm replacing the X100S with the X100VI first because I really like the high speed flash, and my X-T2 still works great. Someone who just wants a mirrorless camera to use in all situations shouldn't even consider the X100VI, they won't know how to use it or will never need it. I also will never sell the X100S, because that old 16MP sensor is awesome.

Did you have any problems with your xt5 after the latest firmware update when mounting with voigtlander lens the f stop is inaccurate. I have this 35mm 0.9 When shot at 0.9 it shows f22 in the details 😢

I remember when v3 came out for the X-T3 that did improve things but the promises were not delivered on, AF was not fixed then and I’m sorry it won’t be fixed now :( - it is Fuji’s Achilles heel. This is why I moved to Sony. I did try the X-S20 recently which also promised to fix autofocus but it was still poor and still no real tap to track :(

My daughter chose 2 photography courses. I myself do not own a camera other than what came with my phone. Researching cameras for my daughter that will not be cumbersome to carry every day in addition to her books, that will also be a tool that she can grow with for the next several years has been a challenge for me. Sony rx100vxiii is not great in low light. That would be a bummer as Winter is dark. It sounds like a limitation. Canon g7x mark iii is well liked but seems to be more for video and vloggers, plus older for the price. Canon g5 mark ii is older and missing some features that may be convenient down the road. Some reviews say they're grainy, and praise fuji for better color.. Well, no I don't want grainy and of course I want better color. Fuji xt50 reviews say just spring for x-t5 due to price and weatherproofing. Yes, protection from weather is important, especially for gaining experience at outdoor school sports events when it's raining, though I still wouldn't want to get it wet. I want to get her a camera that is geared toward photography and has manual setting options, as that is a requirement for the course, but still has video option if she would want to use that, while making as few compromises as possible. If a slightly slower auto focus is the only drawback, I can rest easy with that. There is SO MUCH to choose from. Every review for a camera mentions other cameras, other brands, other models.... It is endless. She is a freshman in high school but I see it as an investment into a healthy life long passion. Career or hobby it can't hurt to have a good camera. This camera isn't old. Seems like a good all around camera and like the kinks are getting worked out. Your genuine enthusiasm for this camera is where I'm going to stop stressing out about which one to choose. I hope this is the right camera for her for years to come and that she will be as excited with it as YOU are. You're a professional and seem quite smitten with it, so it must be good. Do you have a recommendation for a padded hard shell case to protect it from everything in her bookbag? Class has a limited number of cameras for students to use so I'm springing for one so she isn't lost in the scramble for equipment. There is an ability to store the camera in class but no guarantee it won't be stolen, plus she can't practice after school if its stored there. She may need to carry it all day every day. What it the best way to protect this camera from high school life? I did not plan on spending so much on a camera but it doesn't make sense to spend money on something that will be less, then spend more on something more later. I think it is best to just spend one time and get a good one. I need to something GREAT to protect it so I don't become overbearing in asking if the camera is ok. I want a good camera. I don't want anxiety.

It depends... In your case the camera that I would recommend is Fujifilm X100VI OR X100V that have fully leather cases available for protection, and are weather resistant with all you need on them. And ultra portable. The only downside is that are hard to find and you can't change lenses. But you can install two adapters so you'll have a portraiture lens and a wide lens. With Fujifilm x-t5 I'm afraid that the package will be too big and heavy when adding a cage, or a case. So x-t5 is on the last place from my point of view. The next camera, that I think is perfect is Fujifilm X-T50 - you have leather cases, grips, it's small and light. For sure I feel it will make a great pair with the books and school. Either way you chose you can't go wrong regarding how good these cameras are - the number one problem for an everyday carry is weight. Personally I would choose the lightest and smallest - and in this particular case x100vi or xt50 could do the job better.

All the updates to the camera also show that Fuji cares about the users (even though it took them a bit too long to release the first major autofocus update).

Thank you for the information. Lamtongue did a video recently where he was really annoyed about the AF after the v3.01 update. He was saying the AF hitrate is like 50% and really cursed Fujifilm for it because Sony, Canon and Nikon all have much better AF. I really hope Fujifilm can sort this AF issue out and be on par with Sony because Fujifilm cameras are so much fun to use.

Excellent video once again! My travel or new setup is the Fuji XT5 with the Ricoh GRIIIx 40 mm version. The colour science is not as good as the Fuji but almost as good with their film simulations. It’s crazy light & convention not much bigger than my Iphone! Ricoh also has a convenient crop factor of 50 & 70mm you can create shortcuts from their adjustment bar that comes in very handy although it offers slightly lower resolution as a trade offer …I find myself using the 50mm crop offering higher resolution than the 50 crop

I was forced when I bought it to buy it with 16-80 f4 because of the same reason... Buying the body and a prime like 35mm f2 could be a better choice... If it's possible 😬

With the new lenses all is working ok, but if you use an older lens yes. And the firmware operation of settings how they are remembered is not really well thought. It was better on older cameras, more fluent, more logical. But after some time you get accustomed... But still not ideal when changing settings and film recipes... It was better before...

Did anyone out there notice that after the latest firmware updated on the xt5 the f stop is inaccurate when mounting with the voigtlander lens. When I shot at f2 in details of the camera shows f22. This happened with my Voigtlander 35mm F0.9 and ultron lens. When shoot at the largest aperture it shows f22. This really bothering me
