I partnered up with the prospectors of Grizzly Discoveries again to investigate, and explore this gold, silver mine site. We found some amazing ore samples, and got to explore the old workings. As we explored one of the old adits we discover something that was extremely dangerous. And we left immediately. Check it out.
PS. ignore that typo!

Nice catch on that boarded over stope Dan and wait for your oxygen sensor before going deeper. Remember though, that if you are entering an old adit and you feel a fresh air breeze on your back, then there is another opening to the surface at a higher elevation than you are at. That means that as long as you are in the breeze, you are getting clean air. The opposite is true too, if it's blowing in your face then the other opening is lower in elevation. The really nasty stuff is when there is no air movement. Standing water and rotting timbers consume oxygen. By the way, stopes go up. Make gravity work for you. Mine from the bottom up. The only time they go down is if you have cemented fill overhead and you can mine under it.

Hi Dan, An adit is a self draining tunnel driven on a slight incline inbound, a level is a tunnel driven from the surface into a mine for another reason other than drainage. The back in a mine is the rock overhead in a tunnel, not the end of the tunnel. 😁 Not venturing underground if your not confident and experienced is sensible. I hope the deal goes well for both Grizzly and yourself. God bless

Dan, I live relatively near Galena, Illinois and the lead silver ore is so abundant you can find it under most yards. If you drive 3 hours north, you're in iron country, or northeast is gold and purple quartz (baraboo quartzite). You should check out Wisconsin some time, it is surprisingly mineral rich.

Assay results take months? RIDICULOUS! I worked in a Gold Assay Lab and we had a 24 hour turnaround service. At a cost of several thousand per sample. So yeah, the reasonably priced samples take a whole lot longer than that. XD Surprisingly there were some very large gold mines that would pay the price for the rapidity of the analysis. Not typical though. I was pissing out lead for 6 months after that job ended. Tracked it with blood tests through my doctor. Soooo much lead everywhere.

In my experience, at least with the deposits near where I live, native silver has a very course, rough 'feel' to it which makes it quite easy to distinguish from the sulphides, galena and pyrites. Try rubbing your thumb very lightly against the different samples and you'll notice your thumb gets stuck on the silver. The difference in friction is very noticeable. Also, if the silver sits with sulphides, I'd look for small streams or erosion from heavy rains nearby and grab a couple pans of material for testing. Rainfall causes the sulphides to rot out the silver and it gets transported the same way as gold. We find good silver here in a small stream that forms at the bottom of the old pilings after heavy rainfalls.

@ Dan Hurd - @ 16:00 - Wader knowledge to ponder: Never let them fill, they act as an anchor and will keep you from being able to pull yourself out due to water weight and also will quickly tire you out and then drag you down. And! In a river, if the currant catches them, they will pull you under and the water weight will hold you down. Good ones have clip releases on the suspenders so one can try to get out of them. Not fun facts, but good thing to know. That and don't lick the wasps. Be well!

I call that "loupe brow", and the grizzly guy has it for sure !!! 😂 He knows how to get the most magnification out of the loupe too. The field of view gets distorted at the edge when you hold the loupe away from your eye, but the magnification is highest that way.

I do not blame him to be excited about Galena. I live close to the Cornucopia mine in Oregon. And you can on occasion fine big boulders of low-quality Galena that the miners pulled out of it, but damn that stuff is so pretty I wish I could have a countertop made from one of them.

@@SquareKnotProductions yeah there's lots of Galena, lots of copper sulfites and gold and just about anyting you can swing a rock pick at. And most of it's all still sitting in large tailing piles in the middle of the BLM Forest. In fact the Mind itself Kai reminds me of the Lonely Mountain off of The Hobbit from Lord of the Rings. Supposed to be one of the most deepest mines in the world. The only reason why they're not mining it anymore now is that they dug so deep and kind of like waking a Bell Rock they're actually at risk of puncturing the volcanic crater lake at the top of the mountain and flooding the whole town of halfway.
