I also try not to overcomplicate my mix. For me this is also part of try to fix the mix with volume. A lot of great music from the 70s and 60s was made without all the fancy equipment we have today. You don't need a 50 band EQ or 15 types of compressors, limiters. The Beatles or Pink Floys had 4 or 8 tracks at Abby Road studios. Look (or better listen) at what they made with that. That's also part of using great sounds.

One thing I do if you have a bass heavy sample is cut the low end to let the drums breathe. Or if you’d rather the drums take a backseat to the sample EQ the low end out of the kick. Sometimes you’ll have a sample that acts as the baseline with the drums and depending on how you want them to sit in the mix is how you approach the EQ process. That’s just my 2 Abraham Lincoln’s.

@@mpchead you made me remember how much troubles we had doing mix in this digital thing, when the music producer wanted to exceed too much with plugs in dynamic processors without having the "know how." Today all the sampling and the understanding is improved much so it's easy to have a good and easier mix.

I usually like to side chain compression on my bass and kicks so the kicks still cut through the bass while keeping the bass thick. I’ll also throw a transient shaper on the bass to make the note separation a bit clearer when that’s the goal.

They sound similar but the 990 are open back so you get a more wider feel when listening to you beats. I prefer the 990 because of that but the aiaiai are really good too.

Great mixing and sampling tips Marco , I second every one of them! I would like to add ( if you allow) --- one should make shure the samples tunings matches with each other not only tonally but also harmonically - to avoid unpleasent tuning clashes. My personal approach: I do it by ear buy finding the key and the center pitch on my Rhodes MK1 that is next to my sampler , I also match Vinyl to the Rhodes.. or fine tune the sample inside MPC , but some samplers like SP1200 for example doesn't have a fine tuning so the sample hase to come up from a source ( vinyl or not) already tuned well (up + 5 semitones or more) I do it by ear on the turntable using Pitch fader. Or sample into Ableton fine tune the sample there and resample into SP1200 . Just my 2 cents. Keep up your Great work Marco !

Do you use a DAW or straight out the MPC to mastering? If you use a DAW after making the beat in MPC it’d be cool to have a tutorial on that process also. Peace! done!MiKE

@@dopeMike_ straight out to mastering from the Mpc. Run the signal from the mpc into the analog heat and other external eq and compressors. Then record the audio in Logic and add a final limiter. Always like that.

i allways struggle with creating a bassline to a low end heavy sample. i often use weird super slow samples which often are full of bass, which kinda gives it the vibe i want. i just still want to add a bass mekody. what do i do?

If my samples are already heavy on bass I don't tend to create another bass line, the sample is enough. If I really wanted to maybe use side chain or cut a bit of the low end of the samples or open the samples with stereo width. Depends on the material.

Just bought your drum loop pack. All of them trail off at the end making them not technically loops, am I missing something? I was hoping to throw these in Ableton and simply loop them like I've always been able to do with a drum loop. Great sounds but none of them flow into each other whether or not I place them back to back or looping.
