A driving factor which led to the 1930s Great Depression was the fact that people were largely living on credit during the roaring 1920s as they were buying into the stock market on margin (10 percent down). So, when the stock market crashed in 1929 people lost everything because everything they owned was on credit. We are in the very same situation right now with people having nothing in savings and drowing in mortage debt, student loan debt and credit card debt at the exact same time that there is a massive stock market bubble right about to pop.
