Before I found a Baji teacher and had learned about the style, I would watch all the videos I could and this was one of the first that I came across. Many years later I'm still amazed at the skill of the practitioners in this video.

God, the movement, the exactitude, the timing between moves, the shoulders' position, the speed used for each movement, the strength, the precision... im speechless. I've practiced Wushu Kungfu for 5 years and Wing tsun right now, and yeah, im speechless, only someone who has practiced it and tried it can know how hard actually is to reach that level of mastery.

I started with Traditional Wushu when I was a child. Moved onto TaeKwonDo in my pre-teen to teen years. Currently learning Wing Chun. Started long range style fighting and moving into closer range. All the my masters/instructors were skillful in their arts but not all of them were good teachers. Guess sometimes the champions don't make the best teachers.

Absolutely fantastic! This is true technique. Perfect balance and structure, smooth transitions, very fluid, excellent rooting on each strike/block. The subtitles indicate this is in China, Hebei, Cangzhou. While that is a good city, it is still not as developed as many other areas. This proves that superb martial arts needn't require specialized facilities or expensive equipment. All of us can learn from the practitioners in this video. Xie xie.

This style comes from coolies carrying heavy weights on their back on both sides of a pole. The two extended arms on each side of the pole here are used powerfully. The feet are solid on the ground and stable as when carrying weights. Brisk movement corresponds to offloading the cargo or transferring carried weight. Another hypothesis is the movements come from imitating the male bird parade during the mating season. The feet movement are very beautiful. I would like to learn this style.

Gotcha! I agree with you in that aspect. Often I'd watch MMA and think a drop elbow would break that hold or his jaw, but that move is illegal. But don't forget, same thing applies for all martial arts tournament matches. Elbows and knee strikes are taught, in Karate and TKD, but most of those techniques are banned from use during competition. I can see where they are coming from though; it's a sport, so they are trying to minimize serious injuries or accidental deaths.

Well repetition is one thing. But you still need application. Try to find people who know the martial art and apply what you practiced. Best one to start off with is have the person do the one-two punch (left hand-right hand; since it is the most common first attack to any fight) and use what you learned to either block/intercept/counter. Different people = different height, strength and habits. Also don't be afraid to get hit. No matter how good you are at martial arts, you will get hit.

I agree with the taught correctly. But I also want to add, understanding/comprehension on the students part. Lots of traditional arts mask their moves into what is mostly incomprehensible so ppl can't steal the techniques. What looked like a flailing arm in Wushu turned out to be 1 takedowns and 2 arm breakers (used as combo or separately; it's very effective). I would not have known that it was used in those ways if I did not think about how to use it and ask my Sifu to expand on it.

Standing meditation is used in Baji, as in other Chinese Martial arts. This exercise is originally a Taoist exercise if you research properly, and it was meant to be for spiritual development. Buddhists and Taoists also talk about the internal force Qi/Chi that moves in meridians in our body. So in that sense, these martial arts emerged from these 'religions'.

shaolin is just a temple, before a temple there was an army so, martial arts exists way before the shaolin temple, however the shaolin temple wasn't the only school at the time, there was wudang too, founded by shang san feng, the creator of Tai Chi Chuan, style wich he created because he had to pass a dangerous road wich was often place of bandits attacks... That's right he knew nothing about martial arts it was the FEAR FACTOR that ave him the original Idea of Tai Chi
