I was expecting you to say "test - test - testicle" when you were testing the mics :D Suppose I'm an outlier, I've been wearing the Tronsmart Apollo Q10 ANC headphones most of the year, though I've been curious about the newer Anker Q35 and Q45. The Tronsmart has 100 hours (!) life, great mics, same sound chip as the Anker Q30, touch controls, very comfortable, downside is probably the build quality.

I recently got a Q30. It is my first headphone. I decided to use it while I´m cycling, doing laps of around 4,8km in my suburb, keeping an average speed of 20km/h. The noise caused by the wind, even with the anc on, was very high and annoying, mainly when I was facing it. So, I decided to turn the headphone off. However, before doing so, I put my hand in front of the left phone to prevent the wind to hit it and to my surprise the noise, like a pass of magic, stopped. Then, the next day I cut two pieces of black soft rubber (kind of) and using sellotape I fixed them around each phone. The intention, of course, was to try to deflect the wind. I jumped on my bike and I couldn´t believe the result. The noise was almost completely cut off. Sometimes 100%. On average I would say 95% or more. I also noticed that if I kept my head up the noise decreased . Now I can use my headphones without bothering about that annoying noise.

Thanks, guys. As others have already mentioned, this is a superb and detailed review. I wish I had watched it a few months ago before plopping down $400 on the Sony XM5s. That said, I am now your 2nd follower who would happily sell his XM5s due to the extremely annoying automatic noise canceling. They shut off when I cough, when I clear my throat or when I think dirty thoughts. Okay, maybe not the last one, but still. I've been inside the app several times looking for a way to turn this awful feature off, but alas there is none. Excuse the rant: maybe I'm getting old, but I want to control my headphones, not the other way around. Other complaints: the sound signature on the XM5s is jumbled together in the middle (imho) with no separation of bass. My Bose QC 35 IIs were MUCH better in that regard. Whoever thought that many years after their release, I would be praising Bose sound quality? Go figure. With the EQ settings, I can tweak the XM5s to where the sound is almost acceptable but the XM5s are not as good as people are raving about, imho. Regarding comfort, you would think that in the year 2022, manufacturers could find an earcup material that doesn't get sweaty after 2 minutes in a hot environment. You would be wrong. The earcups are also too shallow and annoy my ears after an hour of listening. In short, I can live with the XM5s but I would trade them for the Soundcore Q45s - just to get rid of the crappy ANC. Love your reviews. Happy New Year! Kent PS: NOTE TO SONY: We're not all 13 years old and we don't all think it's cool to have AI making decisions for us. If you insist on being trend-setters, that's fine, but at least give us the option within the app TO TURN ALL OF THIS AUTOMATIC CRAP OFF. Thank you!

I own soundcore life q35 which according to some reviews it has same driver and same sound quality as soundcore space q45. When I tried my q35 for the first time I was not really impressed, it sounded too bright for me so after 5 minutes of eq it started to sound way way better than I expected. Also i was surprised that these headphones needs driver burning. After one week of listen I could tell that those drivers got better and better, the sound quality improved a lot compared to the first time I used. And now soundcore signature sounds hella good. So definitely if you bought one of these you should use these at least one week, yes it's going to be a difference. Ldac is like your secret weapon, when you turn it on its just blessing. I could hear instruments vocals that I was having no idea that there are in that song, it made me crying bcs It remembers me of the good old days of my studio headset
@RedMilitiaX2 жыл бұрын
There is nothing called a driver burn in, it's just a myth. There is not science that supports this except the science of human ears needing time to adapt. Otherwise companied would just burn in the drivers before selling them with bad sound or sending them to reviewers. It's sounds better after awhile because your ears get used to the frequency and sound stage of that particular headphone. This is specially noticeable if you change a headphone after listening to specific brand for a long time and got used to it. I went from 15 years of Sennheiser to really high end Sonys, and the Sonys sounded really bad to me the first few weeks, even first 2 months.

Great review guys your attention to detail is fantastic. Tremendous effort and it shows. I don't think I've ever seen a more nuanced and detailed review of pretty much anything.
Great review! I don’t have the XM5 but I do have the XM4 and I just received my Q45s. Out of the box, I feel both of the headphones sound very lifeless, muffled and muddy. After installing the Soundcore software, I was able to tweak the Q45 to sound great, same with Sony’s software with the XM4. I find the Soundcore default setting (Soundcore Signature) just sounds bad (to me, at least). I don’t like the top cushion on the Q45 as it feels very hard, but it feels better on my ears than the XM4 which don’t quite fully cover my ears and put pressure on the edges of my ears.
@VictorRodriguez-gy1gs2 жыл бұрын
How about anc? Is it really that better on xm4 or are they comparable?
@Dec4AllTimeAlways2 жыл бұрын
Same opinion on the XM4. They don't quite fully cover my entire ears. But they're great after EQ because they're quite lifeless by default. Here are my settings as I prefer more bass: +7 +4 +7 +4 +7 with Clear Bass at +10. It might sound a little harsh to more sensitive ears but sound is all subjective for people. I also have a Bose QC35 Mark I and those are comfortable but I can't change the EQ with the app so they sound only a little better than the XM4 on default. And it's annoying it has 2.5 mm aux and micro-USB. If the XM4 battery completely dies, I can still use the XM4 wired while it's off and they're not too bad. On par to typical AirPods but no need to charge them. My only real issues is the fatigue after wearing them for a few hours. They're not super uncomfortable but you can feel the fatigue there. Overall, the XM4 is obviously the better package. Better case than the XM5 or my QC35. I actually don't care about the ANC. I think that's bad when walking around as I want to be aware of my surroundings like if a car is speeding.

I don't know in the Netherland but Anker / Soundcore / Eufy support is basically number 1 from my personal experience, the likes of Apple... They are aware of Amazon reviews (even if said reviews aren't negative) and they provide positive feedback, solutions and support. If I wouldn't have bought the Sony Linkbuds a few weeks ago (the donut ones) for my particular needs, I would have definitely got the Soundcore Sport X10 for the aforementioned reasons. Great review by the way.

Good job guys. Really enjoyed your review and the detailed info. However, I’d have preferred the sound sample at the end with EQ settings turned on cause to my ears, the Sonys smashed the Soundcore with EQ off, and I listened to that section twice with my iPad which made the sound quality of the Soundcore so bad and then with my Bose SoundtTouch 30 and the difference between both was still the same. Maybe tweak the EQ settings a bit more so we can get the full rich signature Soundcore sound? Even my Liberty 3 pro’s earbud sounded way better. Could be because I am a bass head, but even the mids were disappointing. Now I am not sure I’ll be getting the Soundcore. I am a bit of a collector of premium headphones and have the Bose 700, QC35, B&O H8 and Beoplay H95 and it’s the bass that sold them for me, though I still find myself going back to the QC 35 and the Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds when travelling, though they might not be the best, probably familiarity and nostalgia.

The thing I don't like about the XM5 sound is that when it comes to older music with older technology such as the '90s or early 2000s hip hop, there is definitely a lack of quality. I have to listen to music produced within the last 2 years in order to really see how good these headphones sound. However, I don't have to do that with my sennheiser's or my soundcore's. No matter what genre or years I'm listening to music. It always sounds great, but with Sony if the music is more old school you can forget it.

Some advantages of the q35 over q45 - • The wear sensor weirdly exists in the older (not so older) q35 • The 3.5mm cable has an angled jack and is about 124cm long for the older one. • The q35 apparently sound very similar to the q45 (according to a review by "Brannon No D") • q35 also has NFC (idk if the q45 has it) • Also the q35 has touch control similar to the xm4 for noise cancellation/transperancy/normal • Also i get an airplane adapter in the q35 • you can get them for $89 during sale (which i did) or a regular price of $104 • Also you can use two devices in dual connect using LDAC. Some advantages of the q45 - • q45 has 3 mics and the q35 has 2 mics on each cups. • 4 hours in 4 minutes vs the 4 hours in 5 minutes of the q35 • 50 hours of total instead of 40 hours of q35. Also P.S.A - Dont plug your q35 to the airplane using the wired cable soundcore advises against that (although we get one in the box)

wait, soundcore said to not use the airplane adapter? Did they give any reason for that? Also do you know if either is better for gaming?

The SoundCore is pretty bad compared to XM5 , you can very easily tell the difference across the board compared to the XM5. But the SoundCore is not bad compared to other headphones in its own class. If you stay within the SoundCore's price range there are actually better ones at lower prices. Overall comparing these two are like comparing oranges to apples. Should go for the Sennheiser Momentum 4s. Just came out, and man they're better than the Sony XM5 in pretty much every way. Better sound, better case, I like the features better, literally twice the battery life at 60 hours which is insane. The only thing I like the XM5s more for are the mics for call quality. Momentum 4 are the superior headset by far in every other way.
@randyduncan7952 жыл бұрын
Sony thinking it's ok to forbid the owner from simply turning ANC to max and forgetting about it is BS. As an owner of XM2 and XM3 headphones I was going to buy the XM5 but this changed my mind. I skipped the XM4 because the mic quality on the 3 was garbage and still needed more improvement on the 4. Now the XM5 delivers on this but insists on yanking control of the ANC away from the user and charges $400 for the privilege. Hard pass unless and until they correct it. Thank you for the great review!

I have recently started using my wife's Soundore Q30"s , replacing my Sony WH-1000xm4's because they actually work , while my XM4's have suddenly developed a really annoying , extremely common habit of the bluetooth constantly disconnecting. I have determined the problem lies with the headphones and not the source and Sony have been unable or unwilling to help with the issue so I guess my $400 headphones are now useless after just over a year of them being awesome. For this reason alone I would highly recommend any of the Soundcore headphone versions over more expensive options from Sony , Bose , Sennheiser. I've had Bose which I also loved but could not live with the extremely short bluetooth range. I mean 15 ft.away from laptop should not be maximum range of $500 headphones. Took them back to Costco. The Soundcore headphones are more than acceptable options. Just my opinion for what it's worth

After listening to your own sound samples I really don't know how in good conscience you could declare this comparison a tie. The Sony's clarity, soundstage and resonance just blows the very tinny and digitized sound of the Soundcore offering out of the water and that's before eq fine tuning. One might say that the Soundcores sound CHEAP. .....imagine that .........

🤔 from what I listened to (sound comparison at the end) these Soundcores are not really better than the Sony WH5s or even the Soundcore Q35s or Q30s which, on the other hand, in my experience, are equal to Sony or even better for sound. I think the majority of Soundcore fans were waiting for an improvement in ANC, transparency and especially microphones in phone calls and not the removal of the proximity sensor for automatic play-pause 🤷🏽♂️. This product is really good for its price, but it is not necessarily better than the Q30 and Q35 which currently cost much less. Ps: I would like to know, is it paying to integrate the Google Assistant and especially the Google fast pair? 🙏🏽
@Ricky_RSC2 жыл бұрын
Well, looking at the frequency response in the Soundcore, it has a big boost on the lower mids, between 200Hz and 1.5kHz, also a depth in the 2.5kHz area, and the Xm5 has a big depth in the overall mids, that's why they sound "worst" and boxy vs the warm-bassy sound on the Sony's. I think it is only a tunning decision "problem"
@anunheardtruth30712 жыл бұрын
@@Ricky_RSC there's something weird about the Q45 ear pressure which might be affecting the sound quality. If you push the earcups against your ears with ANC or transparency turned on, the sound will change considerably before settling and sounding more distant. It's extremely sensitive to changes and when I move my head from side to side the bass goes up and down abruptly. It kinda happens with the Q30 too but only if you shake your head violently.

Impressive! The Soundcores seem to have a similar sound profile and clarity as my old Sennheiser PXC 550 and often sound pretty nice. Listening on Beyerdyamic DT 880, The classical example surprised me the most, while the rock example lacked power in the guitars and sounded somewhat scooped - just as you described. The other examples were surprisingly clear, maybe a bit shouty in the mids, and they could use a little bass boost. My PXC 550 seems to perform more consistent across genres however, but I also boost the bass on those a bit. So I might give them a try, even though I'm not very optimistic regarding the comfort, I'm pretty sensitive there. How spacious are the earcups compared to the XM5?

Hey... I'm still using my PXC 550 gen 1 too and still as reliable and like you say it, PXC seem to work wonders across all genre and using the club mode. Just change the earpad and looking to replace the case since the wear and tear is very visible. For wired using massdrop jubilee since I do not own any amp...might be looking to upgrade soon. Anyway it's nice to see ppl is still using the classic good old PXC 😁
@VeitLehmann2 жыл бұрын
@@kennykhoo1689 Lucky you that your power switch still works! I have to rotate the earcup in just the right position and often need a few tries, so I'll need to find new cans. And that's really not an easy thing to do as the PXC 550 sound so good and are so comfortable to wear. I even considered getting the PXC 550-II, even though they're so old that are already hard to get. But they are also missing some important modern features like transparency mode and USB-C. Now I'm torn between 3 more expensive ones: The Momentum 4 (haven't tried them yet), the B&W PX7 S2 (actually sound very similar to the PXC 550, but more refined), the Technics EAH-A800 (different sound, but well-balanced and detailed, and very comfy), but now I'd also throw the Q45 into the mix. The XM5 are not for me, too expensive for the little detail they can deliver, although they sound pleasant in their own way and are the king of ANC and voice calls.
@kennykhoo16892 жыл бұрын
@@VeitLehmann yeah... didn't really put attention and cross my mind on the power switch. Now you mentioned it, will need to be extra careful when turning the cup...haha. Thought of upgrading to the gen 2 but after trying it, the sound just not like the gen 1 even though they say it's the same 🤷. Also, the button for the mode on the earcup has change and of course it's still uses the micro USB which should have change to USB C instead. End up, passing it. Will wait for the gen 3 if they are to continue which I hope so. Same with me, didn't like the xm-4 and xm-5 too is expensive for the overall performance.
