Nxe4 is a common move in Ruy Lopez after white plays Nd5, and for low elo players, we don't know how to punish it properly... "If Esipenko doesn't KNOW THIS BY HEART, then he'll have to calculate all of this". Say it ain't so! A professional chess player actually is required to THINK, to CALCULATE during a game. This is precisely why Fischer hated chess in his later years. He correctly criticized it as a massive exercise in memorization. It's so true. It's also why Morphy was probably the greatest player ever. He had almost no training in theory and had to play by instinct and over-the-board calculation.
@moon4tzuyupokeonce41
@moon4tzuyupokeonce41 Жыл бұрын
Memorization is important part of any game... It's like saying, I hate soccer these days as it's mostly muscle memory gained from years of practice... Or I hate math because it's mostly memorizing formulae to solve a problem... Also, even in classicals, there's a point where one's preparation ends and need to think, calculate and continue on instincts... We have seen many new players winning the game even after falling behind preparation...
@LordElwe
@LordElwe Жыл бұрын
Well, it's just a factual statement. If you don't know the lines by memory, you have to calculate them in order to not lose. In this case, Esipenko did not know the lines by memory and miscalculated. It is unclear if this situation was opening prep by Mamedov that Esipenko fell into, or if Mamedov simply outplayed him over the board.

I'm wondering if the FTX collapse will finally convince Agadmator to revise his policy to leave top donors a prime space in his videos. He has advertised scammers for years now. I like his videos but his choice of endorsements leave a lot to be desired, I would much rather see him advertise some chess course than crypto bullshit.
