I just think that the medical care for elected officials should be limited to what they vote for others to have. For example, Congress be limited to Medicare. State legislatures be limited to Medicaid. If they believe it is so great then they should limit themselves to that for which they vote.

The exact same thing is happening in my country Denmark, our hospitals are understaffed. Nurses all over the country have been on strike several times, demanding better pay. are. A lot of people are dying mostly of cancer due to waiting lists, along with other diseases. My grandmother had to wait about 8 months to get tested for dementia, which it turned out she had all along. She has started taking medication now, but the damage is done already. Foreigners praise my country’s health care and even some Danish citizens chose to deny it or at the very least ignore it. We pay almost half of our income in taxes along with many other taxes and fees on everything we buy and almost everything we own. We tend to earn more than the average citizen in the US, but all the taxes and fees make the extra income completely redundant."

Health care in NZ is just bandaids right now. My husband requires a specialist gastroenterologist, we have been told wait-list is years long unless we pay outright for it ourselves, there are people in front of him in the long line that have been waiting months already and they have been diagnosed with cancer so unless he deteriorates to the point of hospitalisation he's buggered. and even then the hospital staff told us we have surgeons who just operate not specialists who will actually diagnose the issues to prevent the need for surgery. I've been to Spain and they have online doctors who can see you that day for infections and such but don't know what the specialist wait-lists are. The UK is completely buggered and is just like NZ. We need private health insurance to receive proper care here in NZ on top of the taxpayers money that goes into our health care system.

I live in Canada and our healthcare system is a horror show. Took my mom 4 years to see a specialist for a tumor in her eye. I was in a car accident and had to wait 18 months for an MRI. There have been people in the newspaper taking out full page ads looking for a family doctor. Stories all over the place about people dying on waitlists for surgery. I didn't have a family doctor for 10 years when I moved. I am planning on moving again and I know I won't have a doctor. So I will keep my doctor and drive 3 hours to see him when I need him. We don't get choices in doctors, you take whoever has an opening. No doctors take new patients. The only reason I got a doctor was because the doctor in our walk in clinicdecidedd to start a practice, so she took patients she had seen a few times. That is just a few issues in Canada. Many of us want an option for private medical care. There are many people who pay and go to the states or another country because they can't wait for surgery. We also now have a mature child thing. They get to make their own medical decisions at 12 and they sign for surgeries and what not. My daughter was 14 when she needed surgery and the doctors would only speak to her not me....she was upset because she didn't understand what they wanted or understood what was going on. They ignored me even when I asked questions. They only started talking to me when I told them off. We have hospitals in smaller towns that close down on days they don't have enough staff and anytime you step into the ER, guaranteed minimum 8hr wait....minimum.....Nightmare!!

You can talk about how things are too expensive in America, and how greedy people are, but our system allows for them to keep their prices up because our government keeps devaluing our money and preventing competition through regulation. Not to mention our population dwarfs virtually every European country's population, so the demand is MUCH higher.

Private insurance is killing Americans. However i also think our government will drop the ball and create an even worse problem if privatize insurance is abolished. I don’t trust them to handle ANYTHING in my immediate life.

@RocketmanRockyMatrix It's just not as good. Yes, some private insurance isn't very good, but Medicaid/ Medicare is not as good. Going into a doctors office and showing that card also feels bad. But I don't cover much even though the government website says this and that. Your insurance has not been approved for this thing, or that procedure is super common. Your doctors opinion doesn't matter to them either.

So, my thing about Government Run health care... is that you can see how it works in this Country by looking at the VA (Veteran Health Care) because that is exactly what it is. I was lucky enough to live in an area that is covered by a Top-Tier VA Facility. The care is great, the Doctor's and all of the Staff are amazing people who excel at their jobs... But, pretty much everything has a 1 - 6 month waiting period before you can actually get seen. I've also been unlucky enough to live in an area that was covered by an absolute Garbage VA facility where wait times were 8 months minimum. The Doctor's had a wild, "If I don't like what you said, I'm going to tell you to re-word it so it doesn't sound as serious." Mentality and a staff that absolutely did not care. The first Facility I mentioned is in a scenic sort of Countryside area. The second Facility I mentioned was in a Big City... and I can promise you... based on my personal experience, you probably aren't going to want that Big City experience. Oh right, you also don't get to choose which Facility you go to, it is entirely dependent on where you are located... And the difference between going to one Facility over the other might only be a matter of if your house is on the left side of the street or the right. So, good luck.

I don't know about Canada. Here is my experience. On a trip up there, I must of gotten a stomach bug or something. I was vomiting, diareah, and in pain. I drove to the hospital. Not only did I have to wait a long time to be seen, fill out paperwork (with a very antiquated system), and had to pay, I then had to pay the doctor separately. It was not cheap. I was also informed that if you need to get seen, the best thing to do is call the emergency number, get taken by ambulance to the hospital and you will get head of line privileges. In other words, you can have a headache, but if you go in an ambulance, they will see you before they see someone with a broken leg or knife wound, etc. I prefer the US healthcare system. As for taking the oath, the oath is only valid while you are in the field of work, not after you leave because you can't even keep the hospital running due to financial burdens. An oath is only as good as what backs it up, finance which pays for the ability for the oath to be kept.

Economist Walt Friedman said that the treasury is the reason for inflation. If they print too much money the money is worthless. That drives the price of goods up. It’s no longer just 40%, 50%, or even 70% of all US dollars printed since 2020-it’s nearly 80%. To comprehend the enormity of the Fed’s money printing, let’s rewind 22 months. At the outset of 2020, currency in circulation stood at $4.0192 trillion. By January 4, 2021, this figure had surged to $6.7 trillion. Then came an unprecedented surge. They were handing stim checks during the lock downs, and the only way they had to pay it back was inflation. Inflation is a hidden tax on everything.

I can't speak to Spain, But I live in Japan, The healthcare is very good, but I pay over $300 a month whether I need it or not, and my work has to match that payment. There is almost no wait for simple procedures, but things that would be handled in a single trip in the states, take multiple trips in Japan, just so that they can bill the government multiple times. There is also a pretty widespread nursing shortage, and doctors to a lesser extent, because pay is low compared to other countries.

Socialized Healthcare works in very small countries and most of those countries do not have a big military budget because the USA "protects them" such as Sweden or Spain which allows for money to pay for healthcare. The US is massive each state is much like a small country . Scaling national healthcare to fit the need of the entire US in my opinion would not work and would bankrupt our country...when the government is paying they get charged the highest amount allowable not competitive prices which keep prices lower

There are virtually no dental surgeries offering NHS treatment, and that's just scratching the surface. The NHS is potentially a great institution, but it needs overhauling from the top down.

Also, iut healthcare system is overrun now with illegals but before then there were people from Canada and all over the world who camr to utilize our healthcare systems. So the 1.25 inhaler is nothing in comparison to the MILLIONS of non US citizens who vomr to the states for healthcare. Six months living in the system is not the full picture/indicative of what permanent residents face in these systems.

This includes the office visit and labs. I see my hematologist every month and I have to pay $54. That’s a lot when you know there is no end in these visits. On the flip side I have no choice. If I stopped seeing my hematologist and treatments I’d be dead in 12 months. So I suck it up like everyone else that battles a cancer with no cure or remission. I know we Americans often look at other countries, but socialized healthcare is awful in its own right sadly. I mean obviously its cheap to free in some cases. But the down side is you can waits weeks, months or even longer for appointments. And that's just for a general checkup. If you have an emergency, hopefully the hospitals are open. And hopefully there is not a line. Not to mention we do have some advanced healthcare in the US. Things you will not find much of, if at all, in other countries. Including state of the art buildings, machines, older drugs...etc. And lets also not forget there are not alot of doctors in Canada, and WAY less specialists. Granted the system you prefer will depend on your health overall. If your a health person, socialized healthcare is probably great. If your not healthy and very sick, American healthcare is going to keep you live. All be it your broke after. Also, I do believe a friend overseas told me they pay something like $400 in taxes JUST for the medical end of it. So you are all paying for the healthcare of everyone. Again, if your sick, this is great. But if your not sick, alot of money is being used not on you. At least it's how I've seen people talk about it. No one really wants to pay for someone else. It's a nice though to think humans care about each other, in the end we do not. It's survival of the fittest most times.

We've seen her mom who has struggled with diabetes all her life get a wound that would not heal and eventually infected the bone. They cut her foot off and basically kicked her out the next day with no wheelchair, no crutches, no cane, no nothing. Her dad has been struggling with something of late affecting his breathing. Last year he was diagnosed with Pneumonia. After waiting for hours and not being seen he came home. He went back another day. They diagnosed him with Diabetes, gave him Metformin and told him the doctor was not in, come back tomorrow. Free healthcare is over there is atrocious. If you want the best care there, you have to pay to see a private doctor which most of the time we end up sending money there for them to do.

It's greed. The same goes for the medical field. Nowhere in the world are medical procedures as expensive as in America. The exact procedure could be at least 10,000 more in America no matter how small the procedure. It boils down to Americans having gotten greedy, and don't care if you have the money to afford what you want no matter how essential it is. To receive what you are looking for you are expected to find that money by any means. Very few agencies or companies today are working with what you can afford. The markup on everything is an atrocity.

If you are a citizen of Spain it’s not the same. They tell doctors how they can treat their patients. My great uncles would come back to the states to get healthcare for serious things bc they would be put on a wait list in Spain. When I was on Obamacare they were going to make me repeat the past 10years of medications. The reason the price of meds are so much is bc of the insurance companies and the government paperwork. If they allowed a free market it would be completely different but they now want to regulate everything. After Obamacare the price of medical care sky rocketed. Also I’d like to note that I have 2 cousins that were doctors in Sweden and bc of the social healthcare system they stopped being regular doctors bc they were caught up in so much red tape when treating their patients. They had to ask permission for everything and it would take a phone call to the insurance, you are talking months. To get a knee replacement you are on like a 10yr waiting list. That’s why a lot of people come to the states for healthcare when it comes to major issues.
