I wish we could sit down and talk. I'm near to 70 years and have had near to 40 gardening seasons. I learned something new every one of them, mostly from failures. Compost 6 mos to 18 months EVERYTHING you put into the soil. Even rabbit manure (6 mos). Your tiller is your best friend. Set aside 25% of your available ground every year for fallow composting and green ' manure' cover crops Treat the soil like the living thing it is. Learn from mistakes and honor your instincts. Thank GOD every day that HE trusts you with helping HIM provide your food. More later. Blessings.

i guess i'm lucky, i have made my own compost from leaves just because they are so abundant. if you look around, you may find places people dump them and you can get all the finished compost you want for free. the apt lawn care company behind my house dumps their waste leaves at the edge of the woods, but even closer, a few neighbors dump leaves at the end of my street. its there for the taking. i never thought about how herbicides are contaminating everything these days. thanks for the headup on how manure contains weed killer, and most likely antibiotics! it makes perfect sense. btw, my vegs grow fantastic with this home made compost. my neighbor even accused me of using ''miracle grow''.

Viewer from the UK here … I’m so sorry this happened to your crops. We have had the same issue here, with bags of compost containing horse manure, where the horses’ hay has been treated with herbicide. Apparently, this stays in the manure after going through the animal’s system … it’s called Aminopyralid. It happened in several different brands of bagged compost. Some companies refunded people for the affected compost, but many didn’t. When I buy bagged compost now, I sow a couple of bean seeds as a ‘tester’ to see if aminopyralid is present, and then I go ahead with all my seeds if there’s no problem. I really hope your next crops flourish after all your hard work 😊👍

Sure, thats it. Did you see how she added it? Handful of black kow, handful of feather meal, handful of bone meal into a 4 cup areas and swirled around. The feather meal alone can create too much nitrogen which in turn comes in contact with organic materials like cow plops and bedding from cows. She put too much into a small area. Anyway, it's life and not a big conspiracy.
@lindajustice2000
@lindajustice2000 22 күн бұрын
But, she as she explained…they used the old bags of manure from last year which had time to compost more. Plus she always mixed the amendments the same way for each hole. I’ve been watching her dig holes, mix the amendments, and plant her crops the same way for years. And she always has an abundant beautiful harvest. So she knows what she’s doing and how to produce healthy plants. The problem is the manure like she has explained. I bought the same stuff this past weekend and noticed that it looked, felt, and smelled different than in years past. I did plant a few plants to check it out but not all of my starts in case I have to replant. I will definitely be upset if my plants die because of time wasted as well as having to replace all the soil in my containers. Several years ago I made the mistake of planting my in ground garden and then mulching it with straw from a local farmer. I wasn’t aware of grazon then. My plants grew beautifully until they started turning weird and the leaves looked deformed. It poisoned my soil and now I only container garden in case something like that happens again. Some people are just greedy and dishonest. That farmer knew I was planning to use his straw for my garden. But he took my money and kept quiet.

I have avoided all these 5 for $10 sales the Lowe’s Home Depot keep having on this soil. Something in my spirit said something ain’t right with that soil. I have been purchasing from a local nursery. It’s a little more expensive but I need my crops. Blessings to you and your family ❤🙏🏽

I think if they are selling off last year's bags, then they will have had time to compost and fully break down. Hopefully they will be much safer. I was thinking of going to get some Black Kow this week which is going to be warm and I will be ready to put my own seedlings in my raised becs, but am rethinking it. Perhaps I will puchase Black Kow at summer's end and let them sit over fall and winter and use next year, giving them time to fully compost for safety.

Oh no. So sorry this happens. I've been doing it 20 years so I know the work. 2 things I only use are 13-13-13 and I do leaves and pine straw to mulch and put on the ground. It holds the moisture and breaks down for next year. For bugs I boil chopped garlic in water and spray the water on the plants and soil. It repells everything even ants. I apply 1 time every 3 weeks. Been doing this method for 10 years. This year I've started making vertical towers filled with leaves and straw and soil half and half. 27 plants per tower. 5 ft tall. 4 inch PVC. I'm doing beans and peas in them. They are doing the best ever. I'm just trying to help with different ways.

I stopped using black cow last year. Im in eastern NC, and i had been moving away from black cow anyway to mushroom compost, but last year i bought about a half dozen bags, EVERY bag had one or two LARGE cobblestone size rocks, we weighed them and each bag had 3 to 4 lbs of stones. I felt it was a way to fudge weight, as these stones were in the middle if the bags, and you would not miss them, and each bag had similar weight in stones. But the biggest reason was all my bags smelled strong of manure. So they were not broken down enough. Thankfully i had only dumped one in my garden and was able to heavy dilute it with the rest of my garden bed soil and had no issues, but we placed the rest in a pile to break down all summer. By fall with adding carbon to the pile and working it, it was fine to add for fall planting. But between this issue, and the use of broad leaf herbaside being found in compost, straw and hay, its scary to get outside products for your garden. This is not a new issue with this company. They need to be called out, and the issue addressed.

I contacted a known popular brand ( black kow ) and ask about this. I was told they could not guarantee anything. And that they do random testing by placing a seed in the manure compost to see if it will grow and die shortly after germination. And that the manure comes from a dairy farm , but they had no way of knowing is the pasture or hay had been sprayed due to the herbicide has no effect on milk or its production. Do not use cow, horse, goat manure in your garden if the animals have been fed hay or grazed a pasture treated with "GRAZON Herbicide". It is used to kill weeds on pastures and hay fields. It is extremely residential in the manure-of the animal and will poison your garden , your plants will either die or grow very malformed and not produce. Do not buy cheap bags of manure compost either..This manure is NO GOOD for compost. If your not sure about the hay your feeding ask the guy that grew the hay . You'd better be safe than sorry.

He went out and started reading his bible to his crop, speaking Gods word over it and reminding the Lord that he was a tither, after a while he started hearing something like pop corn popping, he looked to see his crop popping up all around him. I have seen miracles like this in my own life. I record them in my bible and now have around a hundred miracles I could tell you about. Gods word works but we have to work it! I am praying that God will show you what to do. Don’t accept what the devil wants to give you. We have to take Gods word and say no devil I don’t accept what you are doing in my life, Jesus is my Lord and he says everything that I put my hand to prospers! He says he is opening up the windows of heaven and pouring out a blessing that there is not room enough to receive it! Speak Gods word over your situation, believe Gods word and receive a miracle. God is no respector of persons. What he has done for one he will do for another.

@@goodday23456 Dumb comment. Before the Romans invaded ancient Israel, the Jews spoke Aramaic and Hebrew. Yeshua is "Jesus" ORIGINAL NAME IN HEBREW! Get your facts straight. There is no J sound in Hebrew. So all those letter J names like Jacob, Jonah, and Joshua are actually pronounced Yaa'kob, Yonah, and Yeshua!

I’ve been gardening for over 30 years I’ve never ever purchased bagged compost I believe compost should be outside in the elements You should always try to get your compost from a gardening center, and I believe they sell it by the cubic feet It’s OK To buy bagged Garden soil Or maybe even earthworm castings Or any type of fertilizer But compost is to be left outside in the elements so it can fully be composted I go to a garden center near where I live to get my mushroom compost I use rabbit manure to add to my compost But even if you use chicken, manure or turkey manure or anything like that, that has to be composted, at least a bare minimum of one year outside I would take everything up and I would take a Rototiller and til everything Because you can’t remove the black cow from the soil since it’s already in your soil The best thing you can do is freshen up your soil and add better compost And more fertilizer Additives, to kind of break down the black cow manure That’s the best that you can do In the meantime, I would even try to start in a different location or maybe even have some raised garden beds or container gardening

I burnt my garden one year. My husband scooped out the goat pens and piled it on the garden plot cause the ground was wet, and he didn’t want to rut up the ground taking around to the compost heap. Well it sat there for a few months and leeched into the garden plot. Then he moved it. When I planted the garden, everything did poorly. But I tell you, the next year was the best garden ever!

Good Morning, Mr. and Mrs. H. I wish I watched this video when it first came out. I would have told you to run to Tractor Supply Store and purchase Sweet PDZ which removed odors and ammonia from urine in horse stalls among other things. 25lb bag for about $13.99. You can find a spot to dump your existing bags of Black Kow and mix this into it and it will quickly remove the ammonia. You will also need to scoop out all of those holes and mix the compost with that PDZ. I used it in my garden to rid it of heavy metals and excessive ammonia from run-off from the lawns uphill from my house that leeched their toxic sprays from lawn companies spraying their lawns to green them up. It can do that because of the Zeolite in it. Peace and love to you all! Keeping you all in my prayers.

My heart goes out to you two. This very thing happened last year to the Soward's on their homestead. They had their soil tested and found contaminated manure/compost. They planted sunflower seeds to suck up all the bad nutrients, then after they grew they had to destroy them and then removed what they could of the soil. May God send you a miracle for this year.
@arrowlaylowpepper
@arrowlaylowpepper 22 күн бұрын
The Soward's issue was herbicide in the purchased soil, not manure that hadn't been properly composted. Sunflowers can't fix or even live in hot/fresh manure full of ammonia. Loss resulted, but from different contaminates. I don't trust store bought.

That is absolutely heartbreaking. I am in the UK, we have had problems too. I have just planted out my aubergines and peppers, I know how much work you had to do even before getting to the planting stage. Replanting can only really happen if you buy plants in and that is expensive.

Based on my accumulated knowledge over the years. From watching shows just like yours. When you buy manure in bags from your local garden supplier. If the bags are warm or hot to the touch if you can smell it in your car as you drive home. It is not done composting. So what I've learned to do over the years is by 6 months out and let the manure sit for at least 6 months. So I bought my manure around september. That is the manure I use in my garden in the spring. . Another thing I do is I'll use it in beds that are being prepared in October for my Spring garden. October. That is 5 to 6 months of composting in bed. Your plots will be ready for a great Fall planting. ❤️🙏

Great advice. The last few years, I've always made sure I had compost bought in the fall to have ready for use in the spring, so I'm not held up by waiting for the stores to get some in. I wonder if that has saved me some of the same heartache.

I would contact Lows and speak to the supervisor about the damage Black Kow did to the garden, soil, the projected cost of restoration of the soil. Also, the cost not only of the plants but the expected loss harvest and refund of the affected bags costs. The numbers off the bag will tell them where and when this bad batch was produced so they can have a recall

No, because YOU CANNOT SAY IT WAS THE BLACK KOW. MRS H ADDED BLOOD AND FEATHER MEAL...why not those? As much as mrs h says you can't burn plants with these YOU CAN! So very sorry for your losses. I believe there is a war being waged against home gardeners/homesteaders. Between products which kill our gardens and written "scholarly" articles advancing the idea rhat home gardening is bad for the environment and is a worse carbon footprint to monoculture. Wishing the best for your upcoming garden works. ❤
