His uncle, Godaiin Muneshige, was looked after by the protagonist's father, Takatoki, and when the Kamakura Shogunate fell, he was asked to "use any means necessary to hide and protect (the executed) Kunitoki, and when the time comes, rise up and ease the resentment of his dead soul." However, he was blinded by the reward offered by his enemy, Nitta, and reported the location of Kunitoki, whom he had been hiding. The poor Kunitoki was executed at just 9 years old. However, his uncle Muneshige's actions were criticized by the people as "disloyal," and when Nitta found out and informed him that Muneshige would also be executed, Muneshige fled. In the anime, he is avenged, but in reality, Muneshige's end was that he was despised by his fellow samurai, abandoned, and became a beggar, starving to death.

In actual history, Muneshige was accused of "disloyalty" for selling off his lord and relative Kunitoki, leading to his death, and after Yoshisada decided to execute him, he barely managed to escape, but no one tried to help him, and he became a beggar and starved to death.

truly his reward for selling his relatives for his life truly amounted to nothing

the translation "the most brutal warlords in Japanese history" is not accurate, they should translate it as "the most immoral (despicable) warrior in Japanese history"

Yeah he was known as a despicable warrior, not a feared Warlord

Fun fact: Ep 1-2 are based on the historical facts of what happened to the Hojo Chan. Only the comedy parts are add on to the story. The author of this manga is the author of Assassination classroom.

fun fact ALL the manga is based on historical facts. They haven't really veered away from big history points, the mangaka only does some liberties if there's a part where historian is still debating. Like Godain, is supposed to die a starving death as a beggar, but that's still debated by historians, that's why they can change it as Tokiyuki was the one who killed his uncle.

Watching this child getting punched out like that was not enjoyable to watch. Like geez, we’ve already seen him get his head sliced off, why do we have to keep seeing scenes of him getting abused? 😡😅
