An early occurrence of the tune is from an 1899 Charles Hale minstrel song, At a Darktown Cakewalk. Darktown was an African-American neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. It referred to the blocks above Auburn Avenue in what is now Downtown Atlanta and the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Darktown was characterized in the 1930s as a "hell-hole of squalor, degradation, sickness, crime and misery". It is the setting for Thomas Mullen's 2016 novel Darktown. Not sure if At a Darktown Cakewalk originated in Atlanta.

I know this isn’t euphoria but when Kendrick says “chipped by a throw away” I think that’s in reference to the “control” verse because the song was supposed to be in the hall of fame album, but Big Sean didn’t even put it out for purchase or stream. I think the like that verse was very intentional

I initially thought trafficking too when I saw the containers, but I heard someone say maybe he’s referring to the exporting of black culture. The containers were white with two African with African-American males, dancing inside in one of the scenes. So, I was telling my husband about how this video reminds me of T.I.’s What Up, What’s Happenin’ song. It gives me the same vibes.
