This game does not leat you earn money in a pyramid scheme like scam money and has supporters earning money and giving financial advice. Its not Earth 2 in 1700 ... its almost a typical EA game that promises allot .. does not pay its devs ( not that this would be really possible with that low income ) I have seen similar projects like this .. Normally most of them fail long before but a very few manage to get somewhere with a very limited numbers ... Now there is no video of any gameplay ... Apperently from the we wont know what the gameplay is before earliest next year .. But its not a money grab like pyramide scheme or similar like earth 2 :P

While watching this video, I just can’t help asking “how”. There are all these dreams that they have.. and if you try to match any of them up with reality, you just end up slamming into a wall. Black Flag but with better graphics. There were 900 devs working full time on that game at one point. First person.. I’m assuming this refers to anything where you don’t actually see your character. Europa Universalis is technically first person too.. trust me, this is what they mean. The entire world. So I’m guessing they are aiming for sea travel that is like Pirates of the Burning Sea. Someone in chat: "It'll take less than 6 years to make" Rockstar Games, a company with more than 2,000 people, takes an average of 4-5 years to make a game. Yeah I don't see it happening in less than 6 years with a team that small at all, especially if the work force is volunteers. Personally, if a game that size could be made, a company like Rockstar would be the ones to do it. And I mean properly every city in every state/country, not no Crew BS.
@dolanmindo55453 жыл бұрын
I'd like to also point out one other thing. Whether it was GTA5, or RDR2. Both games had a proper vision. Everyone working on the game knew what it was to be and when it came down to selling it to the masses, people knew what they were getting into. This game lacks any vision. The only vision they have is seeing the $$$ come out from retards dropping 1 grand on a project which has zero proof of concept anywhere on their trash tier website. Besides the huge red flag of volunteer developers, it's just the simple fact this "GAME" is advertising all the mechanics possible from other games to make this fake game seem like the next biggest thing... where they just do not work together at all. It's a classic scam game rule. If they advertise more then they can actually bring to the table, it will either completely under deliver or never happen. Edit: Sorry, but a cannon asset from 1 year ago is not proof. It's just smoke and mirrors. Any retard can open unreal engine and add some cannon from from 6 years ago that was made purely just for use in a trailer. No different then the assets shown off in E2 "gameplay" it's smoke and mirrors to continue the hype in till they can no longer cover for the scam of a "game"... I mean christ they haven't even chosen a GAME ENGINE! So how the fuck is any of these devs suppose to know what they're working with?!

And the curtains close. Rulers of the Sea has been cancelled. "We have not made any debts and there is some money left (around 4000 euro’s)" _"To undertake a project this ambitious with a new studio that never released a game before was a risk. We had a great design but lacked the expert developers you need for an MMORPG. Our chosen strategy was to do a proof of concept by advertising the concept and building a community and gather some more funding that way. Our belief was that this would pull in larger investors for the first serious funding. That would get us the money to pay for qualified developers._ _Ultimately this did not work. The proof of concept was a success and we gathered 60.000 followers/subscribers and some additional (but modest) funding. But we never found development volunteers with sufficient time available next to their day job and larger investors only wanted to come on board at the proto-type stage. That's how we go from a slide-show of historical pictures to marks spending thousands, claiming they'll be playing something that "looks like Black Flag but prettier".
@MasthaX3 жыл бұрын
I looked at their website and they're basically looking for skilled industry professionals to work for totally nothing, well... a promise of share... I agree that MMO work should not be done for Profit share. As a developer myself, I have 4 people working with me on an FPS and they are profit share, but the scope and dev time is a lot less than years required for an MMO to be released. But as Indy, you are right, profit share is a big thing, I can't afford up front cash so you have to hope your project excites the people you need to help you get it out the door. Out of 4 games, 2 VR ones were sold and we shared profits (but there were just 2 of us at that time) and it worked out fine, trust is a big thing in this kind of partnership. Watched more video and you saw the 'battlefield'...this whole video pitch looks like something we had to do in class(Game Design), design a concept game and make a pitch video for it.
@GameDevNerd2 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that not paying the developers with money they've collected is a sad thing ... and it appears they've only taken in $84K ... that's less than my salary, alone, as a professional developer. So clearly they don't have the funds to even afford professional devs. You're also right that so many indy devs get conned into working on a game for free with the promise of some big payout in the future, and usually those games never even get finished or become playable ... real game dev takes years of time and constant dedication from experienced team members, and no one can dedicate their life to something that's not paying them. How are you going to afford your rent and food? Anyone who's a new/indy dev being asked to work on some ambitious game without getting paid should really take a step back and ask themselves why they would even consider that ... do you just need an industry job so bad you're even willing to take one that doesn't even pay you? But wait, the whole reason you need an industry job is because you need to get paid, so how does working for free solve your problems? "Oh, well, we all make $1M in 4 years when the game comes out!" ... think again ... probably a less than 1% chance the game even crosses the finish line, and less than an 0.1% chance it generates 7-figure revenues. The people asking you to do this for the next few years of your life are probably *not* competent enough for this sort of thing. So I advise people in this situation keep working on their own projects and applying for real jobs ...

The folks in the ROTS community who have invested money in the game know that it's a risk. The development team has been extraordinarily open and frank with not just the design of the game they want to build but the challenges they face to get it built. We're there because we believe in the IDEA and the people who are trying to bring it to life. Nothing more or less. It's a really cool concept and if they ever get funding (yes, we all know that's a big if) they're going to have paid staff. They simply don't have the money to do it right now. But don't take my word for it. I'm just a community member, not a dev. Go to their website/forums. Read. Ask questions. The main guy, Peter, is normally the one to answer all the technical questions, but all of the DeG team are always incredibly helpful and patient. If you do that and still think that it's a scam, or that it's a fun idea but not worth investing it, no problem.

They just slap in Pachelbel's Canon in the background to sound old. I mean it's technically of the period, albeit late 17th c, but not at all seafaring music. I mean Vivaldi literally did a concerto called Tempeste di Mare (storm at sea) from the 1720s.

Does anybody remember a game like this like 10-15 years ago? It was mmo’ish and people traded goods and you could be a pirate also, it was a top down view game I think.

Remind me of a game called Renegade Line that baited lots of dissatisfied Battlefield Heroes fans. Initially there is work with pre alpha devbuild which had the core concept okay despite the bugs. They went to kickstarter and had lots of battlefield heroes players backing. Dunno what happened later but the last public pre alpha was in 2018 afaik and they said some of the works are volunteered despite having backers? Never backed that given how amateurish the concept looks and they even couldn't decide which crosshair design to use despite having polls. If I want to back something, maybe something like Project Wingman from RB-D2 which got actual demo and had core concept solid from the very start in pre alpha build.

Damn, I wish I had the kind of money where I'd be willing to drop $1k on half a promise of a game shot over art ripped from various museum websites.

3 years into a game dev project and you are still deciding on an engine?? amazing!!

It always baffles me what kind of people believe this stuff. If huge companies literally crunch hundreds of some of the most skilled devs in the world to death over years to create games on the scale of RDR2, what makes people believe that lil George and his 3 bum friends with 0 actual rep can create a whole world MMO from their kickstarter project in a few months/years?

I used to think early access was the low point of game development, basically paying devs to beta test their shit. But early access has at least produced a few games I really dig, 7 days to die, space engineers, ark, fractured space (rip)….this crowd funding model is complete lunacy. Pay hundreds for a promise that there may be a game….with apparently zero reprocussions

On one note, when Bigfry puts on the police hat and the lights start flashing, it sends off some major NSFW vibes like I just entered a Chip and Dale's. On a seconds note, do any of these fledgling indie companies know that all their mechanics already exist for the most part? All the ANNO games with friends, eve online, cough cough Calypso.... most of this stuff has been done.. eve even had for a while a ground pounder component back with PS3 where players could battle it out for NPC Corp controle over border planets, which effected the eve online universe on pc.

I actually don’t mind the Commoners vs mobility part if done right. Combat, battles, families etc have to be super fun for core gameplay, and the leadership may not even as interesting as they make it. I dont think there is any “winning” with this idea. Problem here is there is no game…..no game and they are just taking money. I think the game idea is perfectly fine and interesting for maybe a strategy game, not a mmorpg or whatever this is.
