However I have never seen these sophisticated scams. Most I’ve seen is a unattended bag stolen. The reason most Europeans don’t see it is because they target American tourists. I’m in Europe and I can confirm this is very common. Happens to me 3-5 times per week usually. They even try to car jack you with this method. So I did look it up to see if there are any articles on this kind of scam, and there are quitea few. They day in most European capitals in high tourist destination scamers will either ask you to hold their "baby" or they will pretend to trip and toss the baby your way, expecting you to catch it. Then a partner pickpockets you.

Yea. Thats tradition here in middle Europe. When child is born in poor family on Christmas, we take the baby. Go outside on Christmas Day and throw it on strangers that look wealthy. Then we run and pray for better life in new rich family. Thats why they often ended up in arms of people from America

I’m European and have never heard of such a thing. But you should be careful of people gifting you bracelets because after that they are very persistent that you should buy something of them as well (because they were so kind to you by gifting you something). You can’t get rid of them unless you give them the ‘gift’ (bracelet) back. Also if you go tho Rom in Italy, don’t buy the water that people on the street sell which are very overpriced. The tap water is very clean and you can refill you own bottles for free.
