ABSOLUTELY. Red Bull and Max are compelling because they are amazing Villains/Antiheroes narratively - especially considering that... yknow, he ain't british, so he was always going to be a villain. Ask Schumacher, Senna, Alonso, etc. Perfect setup of the "tragic" end of an era before a new record could be set by the "hero" as he aged on, and a dark horse who had been nipping at his heels finally got a chance to really take him to the line. Then you have the ascent in 2022, beating the people's team in Ferrari, and then cementing the domination in 2023. Now, the knives are out, and he's gonna come back down biting and clawing. It's a perfect "villain" type series of seasons, where you watch a kid come to f1, mature into a tyrant, and then defend that throne. What makes me enjoy watching it is exactly as you said - he isn't apologizing, pretending he was oblivious, or just acting like he's a perfect glowing light in the world. He's blunt about it, like many were before him. Watching the rest of the fanbase and F1 world wrestle with that while other drivers continue to stay behind the PR lines is sometimes hilarious, too - as well as the fact that red bull have never really been sandbagging like Mercedes did for so long. It's reasonable to say that until 2021, almost every season was really just the Mercs pacing themselves while everyone else scrapped, and then Lewis or Toto would make a comment about "wow, those (lotus, ferrari, red bulls, etc.) were really scary today! We're barely keeping up!" and then proceed to dominate for half a decade further. Max literally said "LOL" after getting pole, yknow? It's refreshing to have seen a dominant regime that didn't try to gaslight the audience that they were actually struggling - because it makes it all the more exciting to see the fight taken to them. Seeing the McLarens shoot forward last year wouldn't have been so awesome if Max wasn't holding a complete monopoly on P1 after Miami. Seeing the title fight being so desperate this year wouldn't be impressive without the backdrop of the last three seasons. You know what Red Bull and Max are capable of, and watching them slide back - or their opposition catch up in force - feels like you're watching the lead be forcefully grabbed rather than if it had come in 2026 and red bull just didn't have a good car - think of Vettel. We never really saw a title defense from Seb in the hybrid era. He was just... gone. So the prospect of seeing max dragging that car as far as he can in the next few races, and likely in 2025, is compelling as hell. I'm not even really rooting for him (My GOAT is... in an Aston) - I'm honestly backing a couple of the other drivers taking it to him. @DeathBlocks2 ай бұрын
I have no problem with someone being ruthless, but to me that means being rough within the rules. The only difference between what Max did at turn 7 and someone just swerving and pushing his opponent off the road was that here Max could technically claim he just overshot the corner. His intention was to force Lando to not make the corner. That's not ruthless, that is against the rules. If you ask me it isn't even that much different to ramming your rival out of the race.

And like others already said - Schumi, Vettel and Hamilton have all had their fair share of crashes in significant races/fights for position. That said, I don't remember Alonso or Räikkönen being involved in such situations. Which doesn't mean Alonso never had any crashes. Just in 2022 he came together with Hamilton at Spa ("...this guy only knows how to drive and start in first.") and Stroll in USA which caused his car to do an epic wheelie. But these crashes don't have that smelly smell like Schumi's 1994 and 1997 crashes, which were most likely intentional, nor like Hamilton crashing out Verstappen at Silverstone in 2021. I don't think Hamilton did that on purpose, but he must have known that was an absolutely reckless move to make. Same for Räikkönen. Not only do I not remember him having any such significant crashes, I think he could've easily had more than a single title had things not gone exactly like they did.

One thing not talked about is that Lando just isn't a good racing driver... Superior car for about 8-10 races this season, wins 2. Faster than Max but struggles to overtake him over and over again and Norris then gets desperate and Max sticks his elbows out and gets the blame. Lewis and Max collided a few times in 2021, but for the most part, Lewis got past Max just fine. Norris has spent so many laps the last few months, stuck behind Max and unable to overtake. Because he needs the rocket ship car to be faster as opposed to him being better. Look at the Qualifying record, proves the point. Doesnt' need to overtake at Q3. But does need to hold a lead on Turn 1 and can't do it. Norris would be the worst driver to win a WDC in a long time if he managed to pull this season off.

F1 is turning out like football, where actions taken aren't "ideal" for the player or the team on their own, but instead rely on the rules/VAR to turn it into their favor. Dumbing it down, if you're first at the Apex, the corner is yours. We can discuss sentimentality all you want, but in both incidents in Mexico, if Max had send it hard enough to be first at the apex, the rules would have been in his favor. The second incident would likely have resulted in a big crash, especially if Lando had done the same and also send it as hard as he can to be first at the Apex, like he did in the first. In the first incident there was a runoff area... which Lando used... and didn't slow down significantly after (relative to the Ferrari, he gained). In the second incident, there would have been barriers. Do we really want to do the same old f around and find out if two drivers repeat Bellof and Ickx in Spa, to be "first at the apex" ? Edit: How biased the FIA is, I can't tell. But IMO the most glaring example was Alonso's 20s Penalty in Australia vs. Russell. Like... I've seen Hamilton do it for entire races without as much as a warning.

You want an example of racing 'like'? Alonso and Perez at Interlagos last year, the last 1/3rd of the race. A model of respect and excellence, it should be the standard and not the exception.

08:59 as a Chicago resident and Chicago Cubs fan, I absolutely love this reference!! Considering that the Chicago White Sox just set the record for the most losses in a season ever, it’s a brutal comparison! 😂
@wardencobb74422 ай бұрын
Max should have only received a 5 second penalty for the second incident. The first "incident" wasn't an incident -just good racing. The real issue here with the heavy penalties is biased and with a conflict of interest Tim Mayer, the son of McLaren co-founder Teddy Mayer being a steward as well as biased as ever Johnny Herbert.
@TimidSylveon2 ай бұрын
I honestly think he deserved both penalties. No exception. However, I still think it's more respectable the way he earned them vs. the passive aggressive garbage a lot of other drivers get away with like taking their rival out in a "plausibly deniable" way that only gets a 5s penalty. At least when Verstappen tries to take you out, it's completely obvious and to the wall lol. There's no "I'm going to back out if I can take damage", it's just flat out "you're going off and I don't care if I go off too" which is commendable - as much as that behaviour is awful..

9:54 I think we should also pump the breaks on comparing Max to Schumacher and Senna. Let alone before I was a fan of F1 I knew that Schumacher drove into a driver just to win. So it definitely tarnished his legacy. Maybe the difference is in 20 years, if you said Max Vestappen to a non F1 fan they probably wouldn't have a clue who you were jabbering on about. But will still know who Schumacher is and that he crashed into someone just to win.

As a Verstappen fan I can confidently say: That was some highly regarded stuff by Max, just kamikaze-ing into Norris. Even he seems to know just how regarded that was, like he didn't even complain about the 10 second penalty.
@dreccasawa99752 ай бұрын
He actually went out to say that it was worth it because Norris didn't win the race.
@SsSHardt2 ай бұрын
The question in my mind is are those two penelties actually on pair with what has been issued before? Norris overtaking on the outside, yeilding 5 sec. Russel forcing off the track, also 5 sec. While Max gets a double 10 sec penelty for both, even after Norris is holding on to the position. Thats where the bias part comes on. Not even taking into account other things that happend this season. Norris forcing Max off the road and onto the grass in Spain yeilding nothing. Lewis steering into Max in Hungary. Lewis divebomb in Miami. So on so forth. its just the inconsistisy of the stewards that annoys peaple and raises the questions about them being biased.

In terms of winning championships maybe. Seb was always there in the top 3 drivers between 2015-2018, and Verstappen was slowly creeping up the standings between 2017-2020, so I wouldn't exactly call it a cliff.

Steward do have bias to certain drivers, depending on who is present and that's an issue. This time wasn't on Verstappen side, but such stewards needs to be thanked and given the bench, it's toxic and create discrepancies between the races. Also do not take stewards that are part or were part of a team, seems pretty straightforward but somehow difficult for F1...

I agree with Max getting a penalty, but Landa had to give the position back in that case, or also receive a penalty for overtaking off the track. You can't fucking have it both ways, it's asinine, too.

The fact that Perez got a seat at Red Bull instead of Sainz is insane. There is no way foul play isn't at play here.
@Jonathan-kraai2 ай бұрын
max races lando very stongly. because basically he cant lose. if they collide and the race is over for both, better for max. so lando can avoid the fighting, but then wont be world champion or he races max for his chance to become one. i think we will see more pretty intense races between them two for the rest of this season. and it make the sport just more appealing to watch - as long as max does not earn himself a championchip disqualification like schumacher did around 2000
@zaksacc2 ай бұрын
Nah but if you look at what Max did from another perspective, I’d say Max beat Lando. That Red Bull was soo off the pace it was just funny. Max knew that, but also knew that the McLaren was rapid. If he didn’t do that to Lando, Lando would’ve easily chased down the Ferraris and led the race from there. He could’ve lost another 7-8 points to him, but didn’t
