Sephiroth knows he can’t win if things play out exactly how they did in og. So now he’s trying to prevent Tifa from helping cloud “see the light” later in the story

in the Japanese version Sephi said he killed Tifa literally... so the "her" in this English version is Tifa

One of the theories about Remake, is that this is a alternate timeline, but both OG Sephy and Aerith are interfering with it, thus the changes in the story and strange moments/clues.

To be fair, Sephiroth died shortly after slashing Tifa. He thought he killed her. So he is probably gaslighting Cloud as usual. He alludes to this in the original too just before taking the Junon elevator while he is asleep. He tries to sow doubt in Cloud and uses Tifa to do it.

That’s just Sephiroth messing with cloud. Tifa did not die, she just got badly injured and then got rescued; but cloud doesn’t remember that. So Sephiroth is trying to convince cloud that Tifa died. And the Tifa that’s following cloud is actually an impostor

Ok, just to get ahead of everyone gravitating to the "Tifa dies!?!?" commentary, that was all in OG Final Fantasy VII. Including the slice. Me and a buddy of mine were speculating in the late 90s on how she hid the scar. Ie. Sephiroth mind *bleep*.

Apparently in the Aerith/Tifa novel that was published recently, it addresses it by saying Tifa underwent some surgeries to hide any trace of the scar.

I think that is the zack timeline when they die, because cloud never got in touch with avalanche when zack survived, and we see cloud being a puppet in zacks timeline at the northern crater aswell.

This trailer was a lot like the trailers for Remake. They use a lot of voice overs during scenes that don’t pertain to the dialogue. It makes me think this is a scene w/ Cloud & Seph is referring to Aerith. You’re right though - Tifa did get sliced point blank w/ Masamune. I can’t take any of the scenes at face value as the game is purposely going out of its way to make us question everything.

I am 100% wrong about the Seph dialogue lol. The Japanese trailer quite literally translates to “I killed Tifa.” It’s crazy how we still have localization miscues in 2023 (on a project this big) unless it was done on purpose.

As you figured out, it’s deliberate I’m sure. Someone probably figured outright saying Tifa was a little too on the nose and preferred to be vague. I still think people are reading too much into a lot and should wait for the game to release.

@@Elchinodawn They can't, that's why Tifa won't die. Aside from anything else, Cloud would never let that happen. The last time Sephiroth tried to kill Tifa, Cloud dumped his ass down a mako reactor. Sephiroth is the first to know that if he hurts Tifa directly, he's buying a one way ticket to the Cloud "fuck around and find out" Strife experience.

I wonder if the "she" that Sephiroth killed is referring to Aerith (from the original timeline). Like, at face value, sure, this trailer sets up the narrative that Sephiroth is talking about Tifa. But it could be Aerith. *EDIT:* I'm also thinking that the scene at the very beginning is actually from the timeline where Zack made it back to Midgar.

Sephiroth is manipulating Cloud into doubting Tifa is really her. Remember, he’s the king of mind games and deliberately talked a lot of crap to get Cloud to be mentally broken. A lot of what he said was proven to be bs or clarified when Tifa tries to bring him back to normal. Overall, this is probably meant to keep new fans guessing. Those who know the OG should know better that Seph is just fucking with Cloud. We know. Obviously Cloud doesn’t.

Probably bullshit. But. Tifa was in a facility with Jenova. Maybe a bit of the alien merged with Tifa and saved her. So maybe it is TIFA, but she has Jenova cells in her. Then, technically, she died and lived. ... It could also mean Tifa might have more involvement with the story, because now Tifa has cells of Sephiroth's mother in her.

I genuinely think Tifa is going to die in this trilogy at some point. I been having this feeling ever since playing remake and seeing how Sephiroth seems to be targeting her a lot more than aerith, you know the person that eventually leads to his demise because spoilers .. … .. Her death is what led to holy being activated to save the planet But when I deep it, tifa is the single most biggest reason why cloud managed to recover his psyche, so I believe that Sephiroth instilling doubts in cloud, and tifa questioning cloud outright now, will eventually lead to either her death or something that will mean that tifa is no longer with the party

The "you know I killed her so who is she" line by sephiroth is not referring to Tifa. Its referring to aerith. Remember cloud does see a glimpse of Aerith's death in remake from ffvii. And sephiroth here is referring to that. Meaning remake/rebirth is indeed a sequel cause it relies on the stuff in ffvii already happened.

@@phillip8747 Yeah just watched the japanese and it is mentioned. English leaves it up for otherwise. Don't know why this was done, but theres always a chance for a mash up of lines. Also could be reference the part at the begining of the trailer where it does show her dead alongside side aerith, barrett, red xiii also being dead. So much for the english version, sigh... I hate inaccuracies with translations/adaptions.
