Hey, thank you for including Hungarian. Somebody tried to translate it, but it wasn't accurate at all. 'Réges- régen történt, Régebben, mint hinnéd. Álom béli tájon' 'It happened a long-long time ago, Even longer time ago then you would believe it, In the land of dreams' It looks better in Hungarian, because we have a single word for 'long time ago' (régen) and we can vary it. Réges régen is an archaic way to say really long time ago. Régebben is 'longer time ago'.

This just begs the question of how to not only translate the song but also the concept. Most Christian countries celebrate some variant of Halloween or All Saints Day, but in Ireland, that got fused with the Irish connotation of warding away demons, which eventually morphed into the American way of celebrating Halloween. That's not even to mention countries like Turkey, which aren't Christian. It's pretty clear that the translators didn't bother trying to map this film onto their version of Halloween, because each one uses the English word instead of whichever word their language uses for All Saints Day. Most Americans understood Coco just fine, even if we don't celebrate Day of the Dead. The brilliant folks over at Scorpiomartianus translated Halloween as 'mundus patet' (the world is open), which were a series of days when the ancient Romans believed ghosts swarmed the living world.
@FlamSparks3 жыл бұрын
The whole movie is way too heavily focused on the American version of Halloween to even just attempt any localisation. Just like Americans (and the rest of the world outside Latin America, for that matter) accepted the portray of the day of the dead in Coco the way it is in Mexico, so did the world for this movie. Simple as that.
