I'm at 0:20 and I don't know how it works yet obviously but I thought about this because I was wondering if metal detectors only find metal underneath the little bowl/plate thing or if they can detect metal to the side or above. My hypothesis is that it's like radar where it bounces off of the metal and comes back to the metal detector? I guess I'll find out if I'm wrong or not in a minute or 7. Edit: I realized I said "it" when what I meant was waves are sent from the metal detector that could bounce back. Also I'm wrong obviously but now that I think about it I was kinda wondering what kind of wave would only bounce back to the metal detector if it hit metal and would go through anything else so it makes sense that it's not like radar in that way. I don't think there's any waves that would only bounce back when they hit metal. Some rocks are pretty hard...and concrete is hard. Unless Everything is kinda spongy except for metal? Which...I guess could still be sort of true when reguarding natural materials but obviously kinda irrelevant since it's not how metal detectors work.

Hi , nice video. Would I be able to use such a metal detector on the surface of the water to detect a metal object 7-10 meters below? (the object is not buried)

Not 7-10 meters with these kinds of detectors.

@@TrueVikings at what range would a detector cut out with some metal object directly below it?
@AussieAdventurer2 жыл бұрын
@@andreysurcek145 hi mate, that question is not an easy question to answer as it all depends on the type of detector you use. Example, using a VLF ( Very Low Frequency) detector has limited depth capability where as a Puls Induction detector can reach deeper ( used mainly or very often for detecting Gold Nuggets as they are much more expensive ) and then you also have the latest model detector from Minelab such as the GPZ 7000 that have a different technology altogether and that allows for a 30% increase in depth compared to its predecessor the GPX 5000 which is a Puls Induction Machine. But that’s not all that matters when trying to determine how DEEP a detector can teach as the various settings you choose has also a direct impact on how deep it will detect…and then there is the size of the coil that matters as well. Generally speaking the larger the coil the deeper it can reach a target, but then there is the soil types that might i pact that depth as well. So you see why there is no concrete answer to your question, but the most powerful metal detector currently on the market for searching for Gold is the Minelab GPZ 7000 and in stock configuration and maximum sensitivity settings in very benign ( meaning soil that is basically void of any mineralization) this detector has detected a coke can at an astounding depth of close to 6 feet. This is the exception to the rule however as most soils where gold is found is extremely mineralized and hence this type of ground will hinder the electromagnetic field to penetrate that deep. In highly mineralized soils the maximum depth for that same detector is around 4 feet with a very experienced operator who can maximize the technology and understands how to operate for maximum depth recovery of targets. I hope that is of some help even though it is a 2 year late reply 😂👍 Regards Jim

Great video, - humour always helps education; could you add a reply to explain why the search coil has to move across the target to give a signal ? from your explanation it ought to give a signal if held static over it.
@TrueVikings4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill! Good question. The new detectors at least give a signal even if held static over the object. I have a vivid picture that I tried a older detector that stopped having a signal when holding the detector over an object, I am not completely sure. How does your work? With my detector I at least get a clearer signal when moving the coil.
@KEhydro4 жыл бұрын
@@TrueVikings Thanks for responding but it was not such a good question, - after thinking about it, I should have worked out the answer ! - metal detectors are an application of Faraday's Law and that law starts by saying "any CHANGE in the magnetic environment...". In metal detecting, the target, fixed as it must be, only becomes energised when the magnetic field created by the transmitter coil moves over it; when energised the target emits its own magnetic field; that field is then picked up by the sensor coil to give the detectorist an audible beep. Simple really if one goes back to what was discovered 200 years ago. Keep up the zany humour !

Quick question... I am trying to find a lost metal object in a dense wooded area. I think it might be caught in a tree somewhere and not on the ground. Can you use these metal detectors to detect high in tree branches; say around 50ft? If not, do you know of a type of technology than can be utilized for this?
@TrueVikings4 жыл бұрын
Interesting issue you got at your hands. Max range of normal detectors is around 3 feet so I don't think that will be of much help. Not really sure how to go about looking for your mystery objects in the trees, binoculars perhaps? Best of luck on your quest!

Hi there Vikin 😉 That was quite well explained 👍 and if I may….one point to note perhaps is that the electromagnetic field also extend above the coil and is subject to interference from EMI. I be interested to see how you find the performance of new Manticore after using it a while. What interests me personally, is your opinion on how well you think this detector would handle highly mineralized soils such as the Australian Goldfields 🤔 I wonder if it would outperform the Equinox 800 and if so, by what margin 🤔 Any thoughts on this?? Regards Jim

@TrueVikings4 жыл бұрын
@@timgrace6943 Hi Tim and thanks a lot. It is definitely possible to metal detect even if deaf. Most of the metal detectors nowadays has a screen which shows the ID-numbers of signals. So it is possible. Also the newer pin-pointers have a vibration mode that can be used to locate the object easier and faster.
@timgrace69434 жыл бұрын
True Vikings True Vikings thanks 👍 glad to know there’s vibrations mode available on metal detector. Let me know what’s the model 😃😃
@TrueVikings4 жыл бұрын
The Garrett Ace 250 is a good starter machine that has ID-screen. But if you wanna go for more expensive then Garret At-Pro, Minelab Equinox and XP Deus are good. Garrett Pro Pointer AT is the pinpointer that has vibration mode at least, maybe there are more.

How deep? Minelab Excalibur II easily detects a bicycle rack* buried in 1.5 m (5 ft) of sand on a beach. Unfortunately. After that experience, I don't dig deeper than 50 cm. I don't care even if it was a WW2 tank. * A couple of metres, Ø10mm, bent and welded iron bars.
