@@gwentarinokripperinolkjdsf683 Because it is clearly stated in this variant that checkmate isn't a thing and you have to capture the king to win. More importantly, you are literally allowed to hang your king in this variant. Therefore, I am pretty sure there is no distinction between legal and illegal moves. The longest possible move should include all directions regardless of what situation it leaves the king in.

And if we even let the challenging viewer to know ChessSimp's drawback, it would put ChessSimp in an extreme disadvantage (maybe we can allow ChessSimp to call for restart a few times because some drawbacks would become impossible to win against opponents who intentionally make use of it).

I hope this website refines itself so Drawback Chess can be a viable series on this channel. Having to also predict what the opponent's drawback is from a pool of many possible drawbacks and then make decisions base on that prediction while also playing chess with your *own* drawback sounds freaking amazing to watch.

Distance is calculated without diagonals, so it was two squares away as well.

Depends on how it's meant (which Simp could have just checked by clicking on some pieces to see which moves are legal). If he moves forward, then he has to move two squares, but on the diagonal, he can't move further than one square.

"Horse eats first" seems to be a common drawback (as long as you have at least one horse, you can only capture with horses). It's pretty easy to spot because people will attack with them, and it can be easy to abuse. Take one knight, make sure your king can't be captured by the other, then directly go for the opponent's king ignoring all defenses.

Indeed. But the game doesn't allow illegal moves. So something is wrong about the drawback. Maybe it was that is must go as far as it can in either direction instead in general.

No it actually is the longest move in any direction, but the length of the move is determined by Manhattan distance, which means a diagonal move has actually a length of 2.

The wording on your drawback was pretty bad, move 10 was illegal with the most literal interpretation; you moved the pawn 1 space, when it could have moved 2 spaces. The fact that that move was allowed suggests that your planned move 11 was legal.
