Learn how to paint and weather your own custom RC hard body shell with this step by step how to video. I go over painting and weathering, adding scale dents and damage to an RC hard body. I show you how I make rust on plastic with real rust with salt and hairspray techniques.
In this project I use a Tamiya Sand Scorcher body modified as a pick-up, mounted on a Max Speed Technology CMX chassis.
Disclaimer : well be playing with fire, sharp blades, paint and salt … be aware it's dangerous so please wear proper protections (glasses, gloves, air filter … ). If you are not familiar with those techniques please ask for help.

I hate that Tamiya put body mount and mirror holes in this body! Not that it's a huge deal to fill... but just annoying REALLY nice work, btw!!

This came out beautifully. Can I ask a question? So im trying to paint my hard body but everytime i use the tamiya masking tape to make the lines so I can paint the other side a different color when I take the tape off it leaves a streak of residue that makes me have to start all over and sand it and paint again but all I will be doing is going is circles. My question is if I leave the residue will this clear coat cover it and make is vanish? Or do you have a suggestion to get rid of the residue? Before you suggest some products I did some researching and I tried Wd40, Water, Goo Gone and using more tape to stick it and bring it up but none of these work. Thanks for any help!

Thank you! The residue you are mentioning are glue residue from the masking tape ?

I think clear coat will not hold on glue residue, you must remove it. Did you try to remove it with a piece of fresh making tape using the glue side to try to catch the residue ? Stamping gently a few times (10 or more) and it should grab the residue. The problem using products (wd40 …) is that the paint or varnish you’ll apply later could react with it. I see different problem sources … - is your masking tape fresh ? I mean not too old ? :-) - do you leave the paint dry the right time ? Not too short or long. Some tricks I use… - I often use the 3M blue masking tape and have no problem with residue. - I apply a few thin layers of paint rather than a thick one. - I don’t mix different paint brands (or if I must I let it dry a few days between layers). Hope this helps :-)

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this. I have been watching your videos since the sand scorcher about a decade ago. Now I've got two little guys and we're following this with some models. Would love to see how you did the windows. Thanks again!

Great video , and a true inspiration source for me !! Did you use wheels with a 12mm hex hub ? If so, can you tell me what conversion parts you used ? I'm starting my Sand Scorcher conversion soon ...
@fullspeeddesign
@fullspeeddesign 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Yves! The Sand Scorcher body is fixed on a MST CMX chassis so I didn't have to convert anything, just find a way to attach the body. You could find more clues on my Instagram. Hope to see your project!
