Hi Paul the sensitivity setting at AF point is for your joystick as to how quick it responds👍

Thanks, Paul! Congratulations on this excellent video. I'm about to buy my first Cannon Mirrorless and your video is very important to me! I'll be using my EF kit too. Greetings from Brazil.

Thanks for explaining how you've setup your R6. For my R7, I have left the shutter button to do the focus, assigned eye AF to the AF On button, assigned focus areas to the * (star) button and assigned tracking start stop to the button next to the star. The button in front on the right of the lens is assigned to bring the focus point in center (if selected). The control ring on the RF 100 400 is configured to change ISO.

Thank you very much. There's a few niggles here and there but overall it's been good for my photography so far.

really great thanks Paul. The MKii menu is different is quite a few ways, I believe on yhe 1st menu you dont need the eye detection on if you set a back button to the eye af setting.

Hi Paul as you said at the start of the video, there are lots of videos out re R6 set up for wildlife. When I got mine I checked out the Pangolin KZbin site. Again very in depth video set up. Cheers Phil

I use 'Direct AF point selection' instead of the standard AF setup, it cycles thru all AF points on single press of the button, no need for a wheel. Initial Serve AF pt i use the second option - small/single AF point to start focusing from, so after finding the target with AF button, the eye detect picks up from the same spot instead of searching from where it was before. Switching tracking subject mine is 0 - to stay on subject i have focused on initially. Same with the Tracking Sensitivity, i run with -2 and accel/decel -1 on those to avoid focus jumping to nose or ears or another subject. For videos it depends what u fiming and if want sticky AF or to swap fast from subject to subject like motor race.

Some good tips. One that doesn't seem to be covered is AF/Tracking set up for flocks of birds in flight..ie, a flock of fast moving waders. On full area AF, do you leave tracking/eye tracking on or not? I have tried it on a flock of gulls with poor results. It focused on a bird that wasn't the target. Tracking was all over the place. Any ideas? It's a Canon R6ii. Thanks.

I think the eye tracking can be a problem with flocks etc. I made a video about this subject recently - Ducks in Flight. I think it comes down to trying different things. Might be best using one focus point, like older style.

Hi Paul, I have my R7 set up the same way with the back buttons focusing and it seems to be working great so far, even switching between BIF and aircraft 😁 not often do I mix the two but occasionally it happens. 👍 ATB Andy

There is absolutely no need for BBF on a modern mirroless camera. I have a lot of customizable buttons on the back of my Sony camera and I would not be able to use those if I kept using BBF.

Thanks Paul, very helpful. Do you find you have enough pixels to work with if you need to crop for small birds ?
@PaulMiguelPhotography

My style is to get quite close so I don't worry so much about cropping.

Hi Paul, Just a question. Why double back button? Isn't that too fiddly when the action is happening? Why not leave spot AF + metering on the main shutter button and eye AF on the AF-ON button?
@PaulMiguelPhotography
@PaulMiguelPhotography Жыл бұрын
Hi Justin. I wanted to try this out and I know it's relevant to a lot of my viewers, so hopefully it will help them. What you've said makes sense. I'm giving this method a proper try out for now but will probably change. I'll update in a video if I use a different system.!
@justinholding02
@justinholding02 Жыл бұрын
@@PaulMiguelPhotography I know lots of people use this method.. but I can't see any advantage. For me it's spot AF on by default by half pressing the main shutter button, and by pressing and holding AF-On at the same time with my thumb, the camera jumps to eye AF and overrides the spot AF, release AF-ON and it goes back to spot..
@bornufree
@bornufree Жыл бұрын
But when you try to take the picture by pressing on shutter button doesn’t that cause a conflict with EyeAF??
@justinholding02
@justinholding02 Жыл бұрын
@@bornufree no, it works perfectly.

@@justinholding02 Thank you So presumably pressing the EyeAF overrides your spot AF setting on shutter?

Hi Paul, loving your videos and always learn something new so big thank you for that. I have a Canon 7D for the past ten years which was fine. Now have treated myself to a Canon R (All I could afford this time) loving everything about it and learning lots too. I have always wanted to get closer to my subjects ie some wildlife etc so I have gone mad and bought a Sigma 150-600 lens. I know its early days and only used it a couple of times but the results have been stunning....fat least or me that is. My big learning curve is going to be shooting birds in flight, so far I just cant find them quickly enough in the view finder even to just lock on. There must be a technique to this and I am struggling. Do you have any advice for me to work on, anything you can suggest would be a great help. Thank you Barry

Thanks for commenting Barry. There's so many things for birds in flight. If you search my name and 'birds in flight' I've made about 5 videos on this.

@@PaulMiguelPhotography some menu settings available in R6 will not be available in either R7 or R10. E.g. continuous focus - enable / disable.

If I set my star button for the eye focus, do I have to keep it pressed while I take the photo? Or is it just press the star to do eye focus and let up and take picture?
@PaulMiguelPhotography
@PaulMiguelPhotography Жыл бұрын
Yes, you should have to keep it pressed. This will keep the focus engaged.
