Sounds Correct. So the Level 1 120v charger is using about 15 amps, so 15 amps x 120v = 1800 watts per hour or 1.8Kw 212Kw / 1.8Kw = 118 hours ( 4 plus days ) the level 2 240 volt charger is 30 amps so 30 amps x 240v = 7200 watts per hour or 7.2Kw 212Kw / 7.2Kw = 29 hours ( a little more than a day ) he said it was starting at 4% charged, so 24 hours is probably accurate.

Tesla Destination Chargers are 480v at 50 amps or roughly 22Kw/h so 212Kw / 22Kw = 9.6 hours Tesla Super chargers are at a minimum 480v at 150amps or 72Kw/h 212Kw / 72Kw = 3 hours Some Super chargers are as high as 480v at 300amps or 144Kw/h 212Kw / 144Kw = 1.5 hours

@@wyldanimal2 I think we're on the same page. Sure you can get the Nema5-15 adapter for a Tesla to avoid level 2, but you get 3miles/hour of charge (their specs). They never were. Its all about money. The elites and politicians are all invested in ev and alternative energy sources. @@manz7860oh god the irony. Do some actual research please 1. **Manufacturing Emissions:** - Studies, including research in "Nature Communications," acknowledge that the production of electric vehicles (EVs), especially the manufacturing of batteries, can result in higher initial emissions compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. 2. **Operational Emissions:** - Despite higher manufacturing emissions, EVs typically produce significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions during their operational phase. The U.S. Department of Energy reports an average of 60% less emissions during operation compared to gasoline cars. 3. **Lifetime Emissions:** - Comprehensive analyses by organizations like the Union of Concerned Scientists indicate that over their entire lifecycle, EVs emit approximately 50% less carbon dioxide than equivalent gasoline cars, highlighting the overall environmental benefit. 4. **Grid Decarbonization Impact:** - The International Council on Clean Transportation notes that as the electricity grid incorporates more renewable energy sources, the carbon advantage of EVs increases, potentially leading to emissions reductions of 70-80% compared to ICE vehicles. 5. **Battery Recycling:** - Advances in battery recycling technology, as suggested by the World Economic Forum, have the potential to reduce the overall carbon footprint of EVs by up to 30%, addressing concerns related to the manufacturing phase. These points provide a nuanced understanding of the carbon emissions associated with electric vehicles, emphasizing the lower overall environmental impact compared to traditional internal combustion engine cars.

Doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s noticeably quicker. Edit: also one shouldn’t charge to 100% regularly. It starts to taper off, even level 2, at 98-99%. My rivian has a 135kwh battery. Daily commute of ~74 mi, I come home and it takes about 3-4hrs to recharge back to my charge limit of 70%. My guess at 40A, with my longer than normal commute, it’d probably take 5-6hrs at most. Depends. Most won’t be fully depleting the battery when they charge and may not charge exclusively at home. Also, many electric utilities offer free or discounted charging at certain hours of the night. You also offset the electrical cost with what you would have spent on fuel, which is significant for a vehicle of that size… especially now with fuel prices skyrocketing. For most people in the USA electricity is significantly cheaper. That may not be the case as more and more people transition to electric though.

Exactly. The option to increase the charging rate tells me the vehicle was defaulting to a slow rate, like the cars that default to 8A for 120v Level 1 charging but have the option to enable 12A. Most modern outlets with a dedicated circuit can do 16A safely, which is twice the default Level 1 charge rate… you just need a NEMA 5-20 plug for the 5-20 outlet you probably already have. That’s double the default rate at 120v. NEMA 6-20 for 240v would then double it again, and that is practically the bare minimum for 240v outlets (some homes have them for 240v window AC units). To double it again, most EVSE equipment uses NEMA 10-50 plugs/outlets for up to 40A and you can go even higher if you direct-wire the EVSE without an outlet. The JuiceBox 40 supports 40A which means he should’ve been able to finish charging in half a day if he has it configured for a 50A circuit (40A requires a 50A circuit)… and even faster if he had a hard-wired unit. He definitely does not have it installed/configured for 40A. Now, the Hummer EV supports up to 80A Level 2 charging, which means it can technically charge twice as fast as even that. At that rate it can finish a full charge at Level 2 well under the 8 hours you would typically sleep, work, or go to school. Pretty much no one will bother with 80A in their home and public spaces are more likely to install a DC fast charger for even faster charging, but some commercial and fleet operators will have 80A L2 EVSE for charging.

Long story short: He seems to be at 16-20A on a unit capable of 40A. This is normal if you convert an existing 120v circuit to 240v but if you install a dedicated circuit with that box you’ll get at least double the performance (40A).

People don't realize that charging an EV is a constant load. When you turn on your AC it pulls the full 30A@220v BUT this is not running current, this is merely start-up, running is about 10A. Charging is a constant load, meaning it's pulling the full amperage all the time because it's a resistive load and not mechanical. So if your charger is rated at 220@30 or even 45A it's pulling this all the time until it's charged. Way more of a load on the grid than AC.

We rented a ecoboost for vacation. It took 16 hrs to get 20 miles of charge with 120 volt. It was hot and the "transformer" was in direct sunlight. Coasting and braking down Pikes Peak charged the whole battery with a 30 mile range within about an hr.

Yeah, level 1 charging on a 200+ kWh pack is going to require a not insignificant remainder of your life to complete. It's almost the equivalent of pushing a gas car on empty to a gas station but in this case you can at least drive it a few miles after an hour on 120v.

1. It is a 200+ kw battery so it is going to take longer than any other EV. 2. Initial charge at a fast charger to 80-90% THEN charge the rest of the way overnight at home. That is how I do it IF I need near maximum range the next day (Mach E GT Perf.). 3. To the one who commented at filling up in five minutes: yeah right, an equivalent truck with a 35 gallon tank takes way longer than five minutes (I've seen enough of them do this).

There are many things that take a while to adopt and their inception. Economies of scale and more production of EVs will lead to more tech advancements to reduce charge times and create more advanced quick efficient charging systems. Remember when car owners had to crank their cars to get them going? Remember when automatic transmission didn't exist? Remember when cars were carbureted? Other owners had to experience those technologies at the time.

That’s actually pretty good for such a large battery with that much range. It’s not even recommended you charge these vehicles to 100% everyday, neither do they need to be at 100% state of charge in order to work. It seems that you can acquire about 50% of your dead battery 🔋 overnight on a level 2 charger.

Ev cost: It takes 500,000 lbs of materials to make single 1,000 pound battery. It takes 100 to 300 barrels of oil to make a battery that can hold 1 barrel of oil equivalent of energy. Making a battery generates between 10 tons to 40 tons of CO2 As we increase production of batteries, we increase mining of Lithium, cobalt and zinc between 400% to 4k%. There isn’t enough mining in the world to make enough batteries that the world would demand.

If you drive every day, you will have to charge every day... You are talking some pretty heavy amp loads which equal $$$$. If you have 100 amp service in your house, you more than likely will need to upgrade to a minimum of 200 amp. I called around on doing just that, and the lowest quote I received was $6000, that was from an electrician doing side jobs. Everyone else was $10,000 +/- I do not see the savings here, and all of the headaches involved, especially if you are in an area like I am that frequently loses power. I will stick gasoline, much cheaper and makes more sense in the long run. EV's are nothing more than high dollar toys.
