I'll see them live at Naon no Yaon and plan to see at least a couple of the Japan tour shows-I look forward to seeing/hearing what's the same and different about a band I first saw in Sept. 2019 and most recently at Budokan. I'd like to see/hear 2 guitarists, but whatever they decide is fine. They can use backing tracks, or maybe Kensuke Akiyama can stand offstage and play the other guitar parts-or maybe not. Btw, Akiyama hasn't put up anything on his twtr since the day after the Budokan concert.

I hope they stay a quartet. They are more than capable of making it work. Adding new members isn’t as easy as it looks, though they could take their time and add another guitarist in the future, or add a touring guitarist. People need to be respectful of whatever they attempt, and have a little trust in them. They need to do what feels right for themselves, not other people.

Of course fans are among the "other people", and fan opinion including in Japan seems about evenly split between 1 guitar and 2 (with everyone agreeing they'll end up doing what's right for themselves). While the incredibly deep pool of elite-level guitarists in their music niche in Japan means replacing even a superb player like Saki isn't a _technical_ problem, Nemophila has always had insanely great band chemistry. I think that's what would pose the biggest challenge in returning to a quintet. Nemophila have always had a magical something extra about them, and they're too smart to risk that. I trust them to make the right call (and to revisit the idea of a new member if they come to a point where they think that will be better).

BM has the advantage of a permanent rhythm guitarist and a more experienced bass player. Hara-chan is epic and has enough attitude for a dozen normal bass players, but be fair. She must have time to grow.
@Dead-EyeMetal8 ай бұрын
Nemophila remains my favourite band, so I have no reason to be less than supportive. That said, I think some people's perceptions and reactions have been warped by loyalty. They did great and were very brave to stream this. But ... while 'Ama-Te-Ras' and 'Alive' as demonstrated here would work fine at a live show (IMO), on the other hand, I don't think 'OIRAN' is close to gig-ready. Hara-chan's solo, while great, sticks out like a sore thumb as filler to replace something that's missing, and Hazuki needs more time to tighten up her solo section. Along with 'Life' and 'Waiting for You'. 'OIRAN' is one of my three favourite Nemo songs, but I'd rather see it temporarily suspended from the set than have it performed like this at a large-scale show. As I said on Reddit, critics and YT reactors can be merciless. I don't want my favourite band savaged by them and I don't have the resources to track down and eliminate every asshole out there. If we really want to help and support the band we need to see things objectively, as critics and promoters will. The songs need more arrangement changes, more rehearsal time and, IMO, another guitar player to work alongside Hazuki.

@Dead-EyeMetal8 ай бұрын
@@venusgaijin I love Lisa's work, and I have both KOIAI's EPs, but I'm not sure how well she'd fit in. Lisa seems to have more of a prog/shred-pop inclination and she's naturally a little less "metal" in her stage performance. Who knows though - maybe she's got a hidden headbanger side. I'd be happy to see Lisa join, but she's always steered her own musical ship. I don't know that she'd want to join a band she doesn't lead.
@DavidKAnderson8 ай бұрын
@@Dead-EyeMetal While I thought of Lisa-X right away, too, I also had the same reservation: she's not necessarily a metalhead by inclination, more of a prog/shred player. Saki's playing has lots of that in it, too...but I think she's also a metaller at her core. Nemophila may be one of the most versatile metal bands ever...but they're still a metal band at their core. A player I think would work perfectly, musically, is Sakura Yoshida. She easily has the chops and is a metal player through and through...but not only do I think she has her heart set on eventually reviving Hagane, but she also just landed a Bandori gig with their new project Egoegg. That not only includes Sakura's first try at voice acting, but Bandori projects play to _stadiums_ after all. We're talking a whole different level of paycheck...and that matters to any pro musician. In any case, I'm looking forward to experiencing the quartet version of Nemophila soon, and it may well prove to be the best path for them now. As I say elsewhere in the thread, I trust them to make a good call. Chemistry is everything with this band, and they'll place preserving that magic over other considerations, for sure.

She has a unique timbre in the world of music but, in my opinion, she doesn't perform very well in her normal singing voice on stage when she has to sing in high areas, except when they lower the tone of the songs. .
