I honestly thought Spam wasn't real as a kid, I saw it in a reality TV show once and thought it was a made up brand for the show that played into the trope of "Canned food that's supposed to bring you happiness is filled with a mystery meat that has a very dark secert to it" but then I saw it on the shelves and was absolutely shocked.

I used to think SPAM translated as literally 'Spare Parts and Meat', so I thought it was like tongue and brain and offal my whole childhood, and I grew up in Honolulu where it's literally everywhere even the McDonalds here sells it. It makes a lot of sense that Spam has a factory over in S. Korea. Koreans absolutely LOVE IT!! They give it away as gifts - like as part of a gift basket that includes other things like fruit, candy etc. Korean "sushi" is called "Kimbap" and yes it's absolutely mixed in along with a number of other things (pickled radish, carrot strips, strips of fried egg and that fake crab stuff). It's delicious and it only cost about 2 or 3 bucks (in Canadian currency that is) when I lived there from 2002-2005.

When I was in the Navy we had imported Scandinavian hams in a long can. It was/is better than most of that stuff they serve in the deli. We had bread, mustard and cheese with an electric skillet. When the mess hall had crap, we simply had a ham and cheese sandwich grilled. Hey it got me through 4 years (1.75 years in the Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club). Oh yeah we had a mini refrigerator to store the ham, cheese and sodas.

You gotta eat it with eggs cooked over easy. Cook the on medium low heat so they stay soft. Slice the spam into about 1/8 in thick rectangular slices and fry in olive oil on medium heat until desired crispness is reached. Cook some white rice and have one egg per scoop of rice. Make sure the yolk is runny. Place the egg on top of the scoop of rice so when you eat it the yolk mixes with the rice. Eat with the spam slices. You can actually get this at McDonald's in Hawaii.

SPAM is a good thing to have right now during this Coronavirus stuff. It's cheap ($3.00 for a can) and you don't need to use much. You can't keep eating avocado toast in this situation. (PS: Try avocado toast with a slice of panfried spam) You can make so many dishes out of it, it's amazing. Below is a recipe that I personally enjoy. Hashbrowns topped with Panfried SPAM and Cheese..... 2 hashbrowns (can be store bought or homemade, 3 if a larger serving portion is desired) 2 SPAM slices (4 slices if you want more..) Any type of shredded cheese you like (I recommend Pepperjack Cheese, American shredded cheese) Make/bake the prefrozen store hashbrowns (if homemade, skip this) and wait until they are done. Mash the hashbrowns until finely shredded or however you like it. Grab SPAM can and open it, set the SPAM brick out and cut off as many slices as you need. Dice the spam or keep it in the rectangle shape. Panfry the spam slices/diced spam until golden brown. Top with cheese Melt with your choice of tool.

I've worked in a food factory before, so, I think it's funny that they don't show you what is "carved off of the bone". Also if you ever see "mechanically separated" and the like be wary. "Is that ham processed?" "Is that ham processed? If it's processed I don't want it" Ma'am, that is an eleven pound whole slab of deli ham. It has no bones, fat or connective tissue. It is an amalgamation of the meat of several pigs, emulsified, liquified, strained and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy meat obelisk. God had no hand in the creation of this abhorrence. The fact that this ham monolith exists proves that God is either impotent to alter His universe or ignorant to the horrors taking place in his kingdom. This prism of pork is more than deli meat. It is a physical declaration of mankind's contempt for the natural order. It is hubris manifest. We also have a lower sodium variety is you would prefer that.
