Well a whole lot of right-wing bias here. California's budget was in the red during the previous three governors tenures, all of whom were Republicans. Now our budgets in the green. Further, Fresno's economies in the tank precisely because of Republican policies. And anybody who says that Fresno is the worst city in California has clearly never been to Bakersfield. This whole video is a big pile of horseshit. Don't come back.

@@chrispery9002 Clovis is still fine to this day. They are very conservative and republican so they make sure all the homeless and crime is pushed to the fresno borders. The problem now are people from the bay area who are the complete opposite of the typical Clovis resident (so diverse, lower income from where they originate, progressive, liberal democrat, pro on defunding police, want housing for homless right in their backyard, want super dense building of housing, etc) are now moving in and ruining Clovis as well. This can be said to all other similar cities like Clovis across California.

In the past few years, Fresno has made some major growth, no thanks to the local or state government. The individuals of the city have stepped up in the past 10 years, to revitalize the downtown area. Moving in small local businesses, preserving historical buildings and sites, getting community events going on every couple of weeks. The pandemic hit hard, though. A lot of us lost our jobs, our homes, the ability to afford prescriptions, etc. I was living in a tent in my parents backyard for 5 months. The homeless population boomed, and reliance on drugs exploded…. Fresno is not great, but the few individuals that have the means to make changes have made it their mission to do so, while local government officials squabble over things that’ll help nobody.

I live in Los Angeles and Fresno is suffering from the same problems we are. A corrupt Governor as well as an incompetent corrupt City Mayor and city officials sadly elected by people who mostly want a hand-out not a hand-up. People who will stand for hours in a line for something free but won't spend less effort looking for a job. A sad, but true, reality. They work for the separate and autonomous Government of the District of Columbia aka "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CORPORATION". These nation traitors have usurped authority over our judicial legislative n executive branches and are looting our country of its wealth. The Civil War wasn't about freeing the slaves but about full government control. This is the real reason why the southern states seceded from the union in 1861. There are quite a few near perfect places still left in the US. They tend to be smaller tight knit communities that simply don't put up with problems like what Fresno and other larger urban areas are dealing with. Just because a community is poor doesn't mean it has to be a shit hole. This comes down to instilling decent values in kids when they are young, allowing them the opportunity to become non criminal youth/ adults and if need be moving to a more prosperous area and growing a lawful life. You really just have to draw a line in the sand one day and say after this time and date, everyone who gets convicted goes to jail or prison , serves their full sentences etc. It'll cost lots of money and feed the prison industrial complex for sure but the quality of life will once again come back to even the worst of the communities across the US . I’ve lived in Fresno for almost 10 years and I agree a lot with the things the gentleman from Fresno said. He paints a pretty unbiased accurate view of Fresno. I definitely agree that it is one of the last mid sized cities in California that is affordable to own a home. I would not be able to be a homeowner in the Bay or LA, or even the coast but I’m able to own a home with a 1 person income in Fresno. And, now with home values on the up and up, Fresno homeowners are able to gain a lot of equity. Totally agree that downtown sucks and it’s grimy. Long story short, don’t go downtown you have no reason to be in the extreme ghetto parts. The reason it was passed was because elderly home owners on fixed incomes were losing their homes because of ever rising home appreciation and rising real estate taxes.

I've lived in Fresno for 6 years having moved from L.A. Initially, the poor air quality knocked me down but my body adapted and I bought two high-quality air purifiers for my house. Fresno is bicycle friendly, almost very bicycle friendly. Weather is suitable for bike riding all year except for maybe a few days. Living in Central Fresno, I've been able to live without a car as grocery store, library, bank, mall, post office, Target are all within easy biking distance. And then there's the well-run bus system that I use once in a while. It doesn't freeze. Maybe a bit of ice on your windshield or some on the edge of your roof at sunup but it's Climate Zone 9b and good things grow if you water them. No mosquitoes except in the Spring near the river. You can still buy a 3BR/2BA house with two car garage and front yard and backyard for $250,000 Hot in summer but low in humidity so allows use of less-expensive evaporative coolers instead of air conditioners. I bought a house in 2018 within easy walking distance of work that has increased in value by $100k since I bought it. I feel mostly safe. There was a drive-by shooting a block over from me but it took place at a Section 8 rental full of welfare recipients unsuitably placed in the neighborhood. The neighbors would like to get their hands on the people that rented their very nice duplex that has become a total dump since occupied by Section 8 darlings. The Fresno Housing Authority is a big source of problems in Fresno with little or no oversight or transparency. Fresno has been good to me. I think almost all of the people in Fresno are good people. I've enjoyed Fresno immensely compared to my experience living in seriously mentally ill Santa Barbara. Once High Speed Rail is complete, this place will be a boomtown. An hour to L.A., an hour to S.F. But when?

Our foothills are wonderful for hiking, biking and general out door adventures! We have great agriculture, lakes, parks, and Kings Canyon and Yosemite near by, Fresno State is one of the top agricultural, business, health care, and educational university’s. If you wanted to show the shit side of my city you succeeded and I agree.... however, if your going to show the shitty side.....show our best side too. One problem I noticed, especially in Hanford, people from LA and San Francisco moved here to the valley, and used of for a "back bedroom" and commute to LA and SF to work, because it's cheaper to live in the valley. Problem is, when all these people came here in the 80's and 90's, from LA and SF, they brought their gang mentality, drugs, and major crimes with them. The problem isn't with the migrant workers, or the people like myself born and raised here, but all these crowding in here from the big cities who cannot assimilate to small town living, and a slower pace of life.

If I had left the state my kids would lose out on in-state tuition from the Cal State universities and be far away from family in the bay area which they visit on the weekends. Fresno 10 years from now with Bitwise and the growing tech scene might be unrecognizable. Downtown Fresno just needs a new downtown like the one in San Jose (Santana Row) makeover. The reasons for the ridiculously high home prices now are: 1) MASSIVELY EASY CREDIT, 2) Artificially suppressed interest rates by the Fed, 3) Mortgage banking system where the loan originator sells the mortgages it makes. When everyone buys on credit, price becomes no object to short-sighted (aka dumb) buyers. They bid up the price way beyond their real means to repay their mortgage. All the rest of the savvy potential buyers are then left with a choice of either buy at inflated prices or find another option. This bubble finally crashes when the US govt declares it will NOT bail out failing banks. Credit will naturally contract, interest rates will rise to account for risk, and house prices will fall to the level that the mortgage can be repaid from a a reasonable level of family income.

Yes 👍 ur guest was terrific and added a lot of insight, I think part of it is geography, growing up here in the Bay, Fresno had the rep as being the ‘armpit’ of the state…which ur guest pointed out the many factors as why it had garnered such a reputation. But with gentrification hitting all parts of the state, Fresno might look a whole lot different in 10 years 🤨

It's just getting worse the city is keeping these people correl im the s/e area. I'm really disappointed with our mayor and city council. They are building "emergency " housing but not working the PD all hide in the donut stores. Born and raised here in Fresno so i seen everything.

North Fresno is the nice side of town.. Every city has it good and bad side.. nothing about river park area or Woodward park.. That’s where you should have focused your story on if you were looking for something to do at night..

100% it's funny a lot of people think " Clovis " is the nice part when North Fresno is the actual nice area.

I've lived in Fresno my entire life. The worst part of Fresno is the allergies. Two times a year it is brutal for about a month or so. Spring when everything is blooming and in August September around harvest. We're surrounded by agriculture. That being said it is an amazing city! A person can literally walk 20 minutes out of the city and find food to eat on trees. It is amazing! The cost of living is affordable and there are tons of jobs for someone who wants to work. I watched the video and the city was extremely clean for the most part in the downtown area. I live in northern Fresno near Herndon and Highway 41 . I just bought my home and paid it off within a year. Fresno is a great place to live.

Man the entire San Joaquin valley is super depressing, but cities like Fresno and Stockton are just truly awful. Absolute bottom of the barrel places to live, I would honestly take my chances in some shitty Rust Belt town before ever stepping foot in a place like Fresno. Just yuck

I lived in Fresno and have lived in Cincinnati and Detroit. Honestly Fresno wasn't that terrible. Depends where you live like basically anywhere else. Lots of hot days. The air pollution was terrible though lol

Fresno, Bakersfield, Stockton, dang… these San Joaquin cities suck a big one. The crime alone would make south Chicago blush (California in a whole Is like this). I grew up in one of these towns and I can tell you first hand things are much worse now then when I was a kid. Counting the days until I leave this mad state!!

Being born and raised in Fresno, I have to say…the area you first showed has ALWAYS been run down and full of unhoused people. It’s definitely gotten worse over the years as most metropolitan area have. I currently live in SoCal but moved back to the area (Clovis) for a couple years and got involved with the Downtown Fresno community to try to help bring business to the area with pop ups I do. It was and is still a constant challenge to get continuous movement happening. In regards to the growth, it has evolved in the past 10 years, but could definitely grow more. Your guest is right about the city leaders holding back on letting the Downtown area flourish. Businesses open and close because not enough people support. One thing that has changed is the Brewery district and there are fun Downtown events and street fairs often, especially in the Summertime. In conclusion, Fresno like most metropolitan areas has great parts and not so great parts.

So is it good to buy a home? I live in LA and always thought Fresno was a nice area but I’m now hearing it’s bad😢

I went to Downtown Fresno and thought it was an extremely depressing town. It was not until I went to other areas that I began to appreciate it. The people are very nice there, and the parks are beautiful! My girlfriend from Costa Rica resides in Visalia with her family. Trips from Tulare county to fresno are fun and special to them, lake Kawea in the sequoias as well. They have great malls and ethnic food in the central valley. The housing is dirt cheap there California wise. For a good reason though. The issue I always had there were my allergies. This is coming from someone in the LA/OC areas so I am spoiled with amazing weather. Although I think fresno for the most part is improving, Visalia seems to be declining.

I've lived in Fresno my whole life, and I think Fresno is dangerous of course but I think it also depends on where you are and who you are surrounded by. I've never had anything bad happen to me nor anyone I know. And I think that everywhere has something bad about it, kinda makes it sound worse than it is. People would go to tower district before they go to downtown. Go to river park thats nice.

Don't think Fresno is dangerous, it's people who put themselves in that position, meaning involved in drugs, gangs, Alot of domestic violence though maybe because summers are so hot.

Statistically: About 90% of all cars stolen in California, wind up in Mexico. At least that is they way it was before the Mexicans closed their side of the border, due to "COVID". I do not know if they opened the border again, but I have heard, that Mexico has tightened their immigration policies.

I’m wondering why he didn’t drive around the good side of Fresno. Fresno is not all bad, there is a lot of nice areas to live. The only problem is see is the weather. Air quality is bad, since we are surrounded by the mountains, but there are a lot of spots in country side where you can go and chill. Why not show any of that?

He should've gone to the Tower District. It has restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, a theater, etc. The night life is great.
