This is how the Big Ten, SEC & Big 12 will split the ACC according to Grayson Grundhoefer on Crystal Ball CFB. UNC and Virginia look perfect for the Big Ten while Clemson and Florida State are shoo-ins for the SEC. Who might the Big 12 take out of Duke, Louisville, Pitt and the others?

I completely agree with your choices. There's no way three Florida schools wind up in the SEC, and Georgia Tech is the east coast equivalent of Cal -- drastically undervalued, perfect for the B1G. NCSU and VT are better cultural fits for the SEC, but if it says no, nobody goes anywhere. State politics in both Virginia and North Carolina will demand that State and Tech get similar athletic funding to UNC and UVa, who will prefer the Big Ten. Syracuse may be a bit of a surprise, but Yormark salivates over 30,000+ SU basketball crowds at the dome. I also agree Wake and Duke are left out of this game of conference musical chairs.

@@VincentPaterno-hs2fv Yeah with Miami having AAU status, and even if it didn't, the SEC has a maximum of 2 per state and they've favored FSU over Miami since day one. I think the 4 schools going to the XII are really the best you could expect after the top 8 teams have left. I don't see any place else for WF and BC besides the American or Sunbelt. Yormark's basketball angle is absolute genius as far as I'm concerned because you can't have a true national championship without most of the existing and rumored schools.

For a team to change conferences - they would have to increase the media rights deal of the conference they are moving into. That means - move it enough to increase the per team share of the existing members. This becomes increasingly challenging as the number of teams in conferences has increased. The real issue is how much ESPN has control in this.

Considering political, cultural, and academic ties this is how I see B10/SEC in the long run. FSU & Miami go together to the B10. After that the SEC get back into the expansion pool. After that this is how I see it shaking out: B10: FSU, MIA, UVA, VT, GT, Pitt SEC: UNC,NCST, Duke, CLEM, OKST, TCU, Baylor, Louisville Per legislation the NC and VT schools respectively have to go together. Both sides draw each. Duke, TCU, and Baylor go to the SEC with religious ties appealing to the Bible Belt. The B10 gets into metro markets of Miami, Atlanta, & Pittsburgh with adding those three schools.

As a West Virginia fan you have to take pit first no matter what. Then if Miami is available and doesn't go to the SEC take them. A couple of these ACC schools blocked West Virginia from going to the ACC and was some bitter comments made about WVU fans and academics and I think it was Boston college and Duke so West Virginia may try to return the favor. But Virginia tech and Louisville would also be a great fit for the Big 12. Would not count out Notre Dame because the Big ten and SEC may want them to become full members and they may not want to so they may join the Big 12 with exceptions. Totally agree with you. The stupidity of realignment will set in motion the schools that can spend the money for players that will demand a lot of money through NIL. Texas being admitted to the SEC was a no brainer. I give it 10 years, hypothetically, SEC headquarters will be located in Austin, Texas. I understand a bit why Nick Saban is not a fan of NIL. Now for Saban haters that may reply, hear me out. I completely understand that Alabama spends an enormous amount of their money on football and coach Saban earns a huge annual paycheck. What I'm stating is that a program such as Texas can potentially swallow up the competition based on how much money they can compensate a lot of recruits signing to commit to Texas. This is why coach Nick Saban had a gripe with hc Jimbo Fisher. Of course, Texas A&M is nowhere near as great as a college football program as Alabama. However, institution wise, Texas A&M had much more resources through their endowment power than Alabama. If you look at Texas, they even make Texas A&M look like a step child which was why Texas A&M transferred from the Big 12 to the SEC. I feel the conference expansions of the BIG10 and SEC will do more damage than good long term. The greed has messed with a bunch of collective heads. And here we are. NFL scouts in turn will do everything to seek talent from players from other so-called inferior college football programs. The amount of money these NIL players will demand from NFL franchises once they are selected in the 1st round will be through the roof. The NFL as always will adjust.

@@romanmoronie what would be best for the school under that scenario would be the B1G, which has a massive academic alliance. I don't see the Big XII being an upgrade to all these schools remaining in the ACC without Clemson and FSU. No one in the ACC cares about Miami so they can pay and go if they like as well. These 3 schools are higher on themselves than everyone else is. Clemson and FSU are the class of the league in football but do they really add much to the Big10 or SEC? Also at some point in the near future, the SEC and Big10 are going to look around and realize that they have 4 or 5 schools who don't add to the conference football dollars and cut them loose. Do you think Vandy or Northwestern really moves the needle, does Bama and Georgia want to get equal money with Vandy who is a doormat of the league in football. Same in the Big10 with several schools. It's a matter of time before they turn on themselves.

UConn is wasting a football spot. Would be far better to get a Southeast team. Someone like Georgia Tech or NC State will be without a chair in the SEC or Big 10. These teams add more money from football than UConn does for basketball and are in far better recruiting areas meaning both the teams will be more competitive on a regular basis or that their recruits could be poached by other schools in the conference. To be honest, I think if Notre Dame is forced to join a conference, I think they would try to get into the SEC rather than the B1G. Notre Dame has rejected offers to join the B1G on multiple occasions, I think they go in a different direction and try to get into the SEC.

Would Notre Dame sacrifice in giving up their long standing football home games contrct with NBC to join the SEC full time? Would SEC let Notre Dame keep home game contract w/ NBC? That's probably main reason why Irish didn't originally join B1G 30+ years ago before Penn State joined when B1G was researching in possible expansion. Notre Dame has affiliation with ACC in all sports but football, but will televise Irish road games on ESPN due to tv contact w/ACC for about another 10 or so years with affiliation. Plus in terms of men's hockey, B1G IS ONLY Power 5 Conference that has Men's Hockey and Notre Dame is part of that. No other Power 5 has a Men's Hockey Conference. I know it's not that big $$$, but that's fact. Boston College think is only other ACC school & Power 5 school outside the B1G Conference that has college hockey to my knowledge. Back to football side, ESPN didn't renew tv with B1G as Fox, CBS and NBC outbid for think new 8 or so year deal starting as early as this upcoming football season and w/ addition to USC & UCLA in B1G to gain LA market that's huge. Furthermore, how would scheduling impact long standing USC-Notre Dame rivalry? Would SEC still adbide by that in negotiations and if for some weird reason not expand to 9 conference games probably starting in 2024 from current 8 w/ Texas & Oklahoma added, which started the domino effect? Like past years for last decade or so, Irish will have at least 1 night home game on NBC. This coming season it's versus Ohio State in addition to regular contract with home games (around 2:30pm eastern start time on tv from memory). So at worse case scenario until Irish affiliation with ACC and home game w/ NBC expires, Notre Dame could have at least 1 home night game with a B1G team/year, especially if it's rival USC every other year, pending on which team it is and scheduling. Furthermore, CBS televise B1G Men's Basketball and Conference Semifinal/Final right before Selection Sunday during Basketball season. Between grabbing 3:30 football spot that SEC had (which think I heard somewhere, unless mistaken, that SEC decline renewing contract with CBS before new B1G contract) and negotiating w/ NBC for primetime Saturday night, the B1G arguably made offer that got Notre Dame on notice and pending on how these next 8 or so years go on new B1G contract, maybe gave Irish some intersting decisions in thinking it maybe beneficial to join B1G in order to negotiate w/ NBC (along with CBS & Fox) and conference to expand television agreement in future years.

@@matthewsmith2241 obviously Notre Dame has the best of both worlds with it's current affiliation with the ACC and being a football independent. They aren't looking to make any kind of change until something happens to the ACC. Even if it does, I think they will still keep their independence until they don't have access to the playoffs. Being shut out of the playoffs would be the only thing I can think of that would force Notre Dame to join a conference.
@matthewsmith2241
@matthewsmith2241 11 ай бұрын
@@Patrick-sg7cm agree on idea if Notre Dame is left out of playoffs and currently have best of both worlds. The question is how often will that happen here within the next 8-10 years? May not be often but depends on strength of schedule and talent during time, etc unless otherwise. As for possible rumors ACC implosion with at least 7 teams in mix, we shall wait and see. FSU and Clemson heard were main teams to ask more $$, which think ACC flexible to do, but did other schools especially ones in the mix to leave ACC want to be left behind? From recollection, think Notre Dame wasn't mentioned in the "Magnificent 7" teams in possibly leaving ACC so it could be somewhat a disadvantage to Irish if they're left out longer they go. In addition, unless figures/calculation are way off, Notre Dame get somewhat of maybe $50 million for a home games on NBC/year or some outrageous number alone for each home game/season; arguably about same or more compared to current SEC tv contract. New B1G contract from recollection is ~$1 billion/year for conference in next 8 years. Hence, $$ and igos are going to play roles in negotiations no matter what happens.
@davidframe1613
@davidframe1613 11 ай бұрын

The SEC has no interest in MIAMI (a 3rd in Florida), especially over options North Carolina or Virginia (new states in the footprint). The BIG12 is clearly the option of last resort, right or wrong, rational or not. Why would some ACC remainders prefer the Tier 2 BIG12 over a rebuilt peer Tier 2 ACC?

The B1G & SEC have 16. The XII has 12. If the B1G/SEC add 4 then the XII needs 8 to have the same number of schools as the other two.

If the ACC implodes we could find 8 within the conference who neither the SEC or Big 10 are really interested in.

What’s the all fired rush to add without any direction other than to just add? Surely quality should quantify any potential additions moving forward.

Georgia Tech is not even on their radar anymore. The last time GTI was mentioned by the Big 10 was in 2019 with 7 other schools, Kansas was one of them. Duke would stand a better chance.

Every time I see these realignment videos and I see them splitting up UNC and Duke I laugh. As a North Carolinian I can tell you with out a doubt that college basketball trumps college football here. Duke and UNC will never separate because they want to play each other twice a year in basketball

Conferences don’t get along with each other on much but two conferences would be more than happy to bend the rules to let them play twice a year. Too much money to pass up

Calling Duke a true blue blood basketball school... I think you mean a true Duke Blue blood basketball school. Here in NC people bleed light blue or dark blue and those two blood types do not mix!

I hope B1G can convince FSU to go with Miami, UNC and Virginia. I see SEC going to 20 and B1G going to 24. (B1G tries for white whale ND and pairs with Stanford. Then Oregon and Washington. ND will be given final chance and Ga Tech joins if they deny).

Of course, Im a B1G fan and some of this is realistic and some is wishful thinking. B1G and SEC will fight for FSU, UNC and Virginia. SEC has great consolation and better fit in NC State and Virginia Tech. FSU is the battle. Clemson a lock for SEC. If they dont get FSU i am not sure their next moves. Its an interesting game of Monopoly

I agree with you on the four schools that the Big Ten would be interested in from the ACC. Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia. This gives them their interest in having a Florida presence and also their desire to add schools that are strong both academically and athletically.
