THIS Is How The Indiana Fever DEFEATED The New York Liberty
Caitlin Clark made HISTORY against the New York Liberty, tallying 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds. Although the Indiana Fever started off strong, it seemed like they would lose the game early in the 4th quarter. Nevertheless, the Indiana Fever came back and won a TREMENDOUS game against the New York Liberty. How did it happen? In this video, I analyzed the ENTIRE 4th quarter.

@@fivek_aday7064 Angel is in the running. Let's respect that whether you like her personally or not. She's upped her scoring and versatility of her game. She's ultra-consistent in her rebounding. She's a fierce defender who makes big plays late in the game. Her motor is strong. And she's expanding her game with 3 pointers and jump shots. She most definitely is in the running of ROTY. Smith, who had double-digit rebounding this game. Fever can push the pace in different ways. They don't have to run the floor all the time. If guards set picks and get a switch around mid-court, Hull and Mitchell can create something. Give CC a path, and then let her make the right decision.

You mentioned screens at the start of the video. Where exactly in this game did Fever players set screens for CC or anyone else? This is a huge flaw in the Fever play and it’s on Coach Sides. Caitlin’s scoring always drops off in the game because she is always bringing the ball up with the other team’s best defender on her full court. None of her teammates ever sets screens to free her up. Instead they always roll to the basket expecting her to get the ball to them. Screen and roll is basketball 101. It’s fundamental. The Fever were fortunate to win this game and if they hadn’t pulled it out , that would have been the root cause When you best shooter is being pressed by a defender, go set a screen for her. If she is freed up then roll to the basket. If she’s not freed up, set another screen. Only when she’s freed up, then roll. Go back and look at the videos you shared. Every time Caitlin is bringing the ball with a defender on her, as is always the case, her teammates backs are turned heading to the basket. As a result Caitlin gets worn out (at this stage of her career) for having to fight all the way down court. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, go watch some clips of Warriors basketball. Because they had two sharpshooters in Steph and Klay, Draymond was always setting (multiple) screens to free them up to either shoot or get the ball to a cutting teammate. Christy Sides is not teaching this fundamental play to her players. If she did CC would have double digit assists every game and would be shooting better as the game progresses

You got it right. I think Hull was a very important part of the game and she needed to be in there instead of Wheeler. And you are also right about CC will get her 3 pt. shots to start falling in soon. And when she gets her midrange shots to fall as well then she will have it all going for her. It is going to happen. Sometimes she seems to have the rookie jitters. By next year she will be light years better. Even Steph Curry's first couple years in the NBA he didn't do all that great. It eventually comes all together. And this team needs to learn how to set good screens and make something happen with them. So many of their screens are unproductive and don't lead to points scored. To many times they wind up in shot clock violations.

Hate to say it; but this is what Christie Sides did well, today: 1. Kept Wallace Out & Hull IN. Minimized Eric Wheeler's Play. 2. Putting in the new player, Dimiris Dantas., who got 7 pts going 3 for 3, with 5-6 minutes total playing time. 3. Called 2 critical time-outs to halt the 2 major runs put up by the Liberty Team. What Caitlin did well: 1. Stopped shooting 3's when she when the well went dry 2. She sped up the pace of transition after missed shots by the Liberty, getting loose balls on def rebounds. 3. This pace caused the Liberty to have to move off the boards for OFFENSV Rebounds which gave CC more loose ball DEF rebounds. What Lexi Hull did well: 1. DEF Stops on Olympic Level Talent 2. Got 2-3 strategic loose ball OFFENSIVE Rebounds; she's been proving herself on that one all season. 3. She plays Caitlin's type ball and actually sets CC up for some 3's when she's out there on the court. What Nalissa Smith did well: 1. She has obviously practiced a little bit on fouls shots. What Kelsey Mitchell did well: 1. She has decided to relax enough to play off-ball-point-guard, allowing Caitlin to be the field general. 2. When the shot clock is running down & nothing is going in; give it to Kelsey. 3. Twice Kelsey advanced down court; quickly & found out that CC advanced the ball to her both times on fast breaks NOTE: Have someone else other than Boston or Smith to bring the ball in for they are jogging too slow up the court & are single-handedly slowing down the whole damn game. CC is constantly pushing the ball down the court which opens up shots for everyone. QUESTION: This is my pet-peeve; but can someone make a lay-up without the ball bouncing around the rim, so much. Because I am an obsessive about higher quality basketball, learn how to bounce the lay-up much higher off the backboard, so it falls back through the net more cleanly. Use Kelsey Mitchell & Lexi Hull as examples of ones who do it right. SUMMARY / CONCLUSION: The Level of Play of the WNBA has been so mediocre for so long that one player CAN improve the look & feel of a last place team to put that same team into first time ever Play-Off contention. Christie Sides needs to watch the film replay footage of this game over -n-over to take notes because Caitlin Clark has deservedly earned the position of 'team field general' & Coach sides needs to make all her decisions with that in mind, that that has happened. (No Going Backwards on that achieved milestone) For the 2 minutes that Caitlin did not play at the end of the 2nd quarter, the Liberty caught up about 8 pts of a 14-point differential. Eric Wheeler coming in seriously interrupted the flow of what CC had established. Maybe only suffer damage by having CC only go out for 1 minute before the end of the half. CC has proven to be the team's spark plug player.

Thank you for your content and well perspective commentary. There has been so much narrative in the early season that as I thought is starting to fizzle out and leave the true basketball fans remaining. I appreciate having your detailed and informed breakdowns and will be subscribed for the long run.

Carter you weren't alone, I was hoping we were going to lose because I want Christy Sides gone. But one CC got TD , I started to root for them to win and when CHristuy Sides didn't bring in Wheeler and Wallace towards the end of game, then I really rooted hard for Fever, maybe Chisty Sides will see the light.

Rookie of the year, close? Really? I would argue anybody that thinks it's close is the idiot. Reese is averaging a double double.(artificially padded by rebounding her own mist layups) points and rebounds and nothing else. 99% of her shots come from within less than 5 feet, and she shoots less than 40% from the field, that is atrocious for a power forward. Clark, on the other hand is in the top 20 in all fives to statistical categories, I have yet to find another player in the WNBA that can make the same claim. I mean Clark is beating her in blocks a point guard FFS. A triple double in a win against the number one team in the league as a rookie (first, ever rookie triple double), and y'all think it's close? The delusion is amazing.

Performances by Dante and Hull spoiled the Liberty game plan. Who do they guard? Fever had at least five dangerous players who could defend and also score. Coach Sides adjusted. Caitlin produced. A victory that stumped the league's leading team. Impressive.

Their half-court offense is absolute trash. When they push the pace, they have a chance to score. If they run Christie Sides’ offensive sets, they do nothing.

I agree with your analysis. A lot of missed opportunities on both sides. Hull was mvp, she kept moving and made sure she was left open, I know it was Mitchell that tied the game but without Hull in the last quarter they would have lost that for sure.

Playing the Fevers should be known as 40 minutes of wind sprints from hell. They are never going to consistently win playing slow down half court basketball with a sprinkling of transitional basketball.

Great game. We need zero shared minutes with Clark and Wheeler on the floor together (like the second half of this game). There’s a huge sample size that says the offense dies when they play together.
