Man, this was incredibly insightful. I think Dany's points on integrity and the balance of freedom to speak ones mind vs when to read the room is vital to keep a happy cutting room. The importance of a quiet word kept between two parties is really valuable advice.

Ok. One of the best videos from an editor's perspective that I have been given the honor to listen to as a fly on the wall--so intensely personal to what my experience has been. Beautiful! Thank you so much for this! Multiple levels are represented so clearly, and with such realism and lively accuracy. Thank you - thank you. Sharing this with my director and team.

Several people have said this already but "Don't tell me what to cut, tell me what you want to feel" is so good. I am so thrilled to be hired more and more for editing jobs as of late and I've run into this a few times. Where the director will start to tell me where to cut and I've been trying to figure out how to approach mentioning what she did in this video. This is perfect. Thank you.

6:03 "If someone says cut here" I felt that, even though I'm a newbie editor, I lost my mind when that started to happen a lot in just one hour of working, I kindly asked the director what was the general idea and to let me deal with the rest alone, and if there was anything missing, I would make sure it's added and embellished with music. 😅

this new youtube style editing with all the stuff in between the interview to make it more flashy and to always put text in the video to emphasise the spoken word is a trend i don´t like...
@Dancing_Alone_wRentals

Interesting Daniel. There is a lot of it, and I was wondering whether it was to cover over what would otherwise be a shot of a talking head. My specialty is making the most boring video that is harder than rocks to digest. I was going to add a bit of this until I can figure out how to film a better film. It would be interesting to know you lean towards not liking the style.
@MariWakocha
@MariWakocha Жыл бұрын
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals it's interesting, because at times I need it to bring me back to the video, or I'll zone out (like I do if it's just a video of a talking head), but at other times it's distracting me instead. I find it really hard to say what a video should be if it's only information, because it's almost easier to listen to it like a podcast while doing something stimulating, like dishes or makeup. But maybe editing that isn't flashy and jarring, like smooth editing that really emphasizes what is being said without also making a second point at the same time would be the easiest to take in. And maybe a flashier cut when the topic changes? Just some thoughts from someone without a lot of experience, but who finds it really interesting
@Dancing_Alone_wRentals
@Dancing_Alone_wRentals Жыл бұрын
@@MariWakocha best thoughts in town. You made me think of it from another angle. The printed lines of text force you to keep your eyes on the screen.......but yes, Often times I want to be in the room listening. Not the case with JustEdit Videos where it is a visual treat, but definitely if it is a youtube with a talking head giving an opinion and sharing ideas. I suppose I should be listening to podcasts over youtubes at times. (I like doing the dishes....Life gives us dishes for a reason). I think my videos need a little more text, until I can get rid of some of the talk. tHanks for the comments....I think I realized a few things I can change with upcoming videos. (The one I have today...is just another bore'fest) Have a super weekend!

You have the subscribers, you have the number of views - you maybe have control over where KZbin puts the Ads - I can handle clicking through or waiting for Ads to end to get back to your content but... at the end of your video [and many others] an Ad pops up and I think "oh it's not over - like a Marvel Movie - there is more of Sven's content in the credits!' but no it is just another Ad - boy I wish they did not do that [that last Ad] - In my mind I'm thinking about your content and EditRave - Then Poof it's gone... - sorry for the rant - thanks

Please just let an interview play without that constant stream of useless movieclips and quotes that don't give your interview of a greater value. Yeah it's cool that you can do it, but you shouldn't. It's nice for a short clip but not for ten minute interviews. It's too distracting.
