Shouldnt you first translate back to your earlier defined t function. Now you solved for t but didnt solve for the original function?

You don't need to "go back" to 'x', the substitution method is used just to find the relationship of the function and the variable. It doesn't matter if this isn't', or 'x', or anything else. We need to find the "rule of transformation", rather than solving for a particular variable.
