"No buddies ever going to get cut." @5:16 Famous last words right before a workers comp claim gets filed. We sell in all kinds of factories and production facilities. If there is a way for someone to hurt themselves, someone will find it. One day that tray won't be there, or a tray will get stuck or God knows what else. But it certainly helps mitigate the risk. Thanks for the video.

Here is my question, as a consumer... What do those greens look like the day after they are cut? Compared to ones that are hand cut? I have noticed my pre-cut salads look like they were whipped lately, and have wondered if it is these harvesters to blame?
@alexweedon16016 жыл бұрын
a very sharp blade will fix that. when the blade inst razor sharp it bruises instead of slicing. also if they are shipped/stored wet they will bruise as well.

amommamust mega Farms that grow micro greens use much bigger machines picture a BCS size moving harvester Farms the size of Curtis's have time to mantance inculding sharpening the blades I would imagine a bigger operation running they Machines all day long so the greens harvested later in the day when blade might be duller

This was my concern too. A few of the micros I'm growing are tender when cut. If I were to hit them with that mop head spinner, I'm fearful they'd bruise up badly. Seems to be a lot of waste on the ground as well. I'm all for speed and efficiency but also keep a thumb on quality.

Great improvement. Drill speed seems it could be lower speed and not beat the plant up so badly, which may be bruising that reduces shelf, or bag life.

Hi Curtis! My wife and I are up here in Alaska and we are very interested in converting our utility cabin into a microgreen facility. We have watched a ton of your videos and are quite inspired by the work you do! Thank you for all of the educational videos and if you ever come up to Alaska we would love for you to come visit our community, Homer, Alaska. We are a farming-fishing community and I am hoping that microgreens will do well. We have a lot of challenges up here and a shortage of year-round produce, so hopefully this venture will fire off like I think it will! Thanks again Curtis!

Curtis, have thought about making some gauge blocks to set the heights for the various microgreens? Stick the block underneath, loosen the screw enough so it slides freely, drop onto the block, tighten screw. Once you work out the correct sizes, it's fast, and takes the guesswork out of adjustment

The harvester looks like a huge time saver. I have never used one but having to operate the drill seems to be a bit of a pain. If I ever get to a point where production dictates a need, I would consider replacing the battery operated drill with a corded one and run it through a foot pedal like a sewing machine uses. it would free up your hands and provide a quasi safety switch.

Wondering how much quality is lost with the harvester.? I've found with the harvester that unless your blade is brand new it tends to pull smaller micros up with dirt/roots still attached. Pea shoots and sunflower work fine but stronger stemmed micros like arugula and mustard need a fresh blade or they get "hacked" cut or pulled up with dirt/roots. My customers never said anything but I started to not like eating the greens that were being cut with the harvester so I have since gone back to hand harvesting. That being said the harvester saved loads of time and in a pinch i will use it but only with a fresh blade. So here is my question for you. Would replacing the blade each time be worth the time saved, or is the extra time sent hand harvesting for quality worth it? Was that a new blade in your video?

Hi Curtis, I got a question for you, I just look in your website about the quick stand, it say the price is $169.00 USD fair enough then it say it is made in America, now when I click the "Buy Now" buttom I see only three distributors from France and two other European countries (the other I think is from Germany) but my question is, can I purchase this in America and pay in USA money instead of other currency. Sorry but what is the Farmers tool? and the price is 2,630.00 kr | 3,287.50 kr inc VAT I am not sure I understand this, if the quick stand is made in America then why I can only purchase in Europe in a different currency? thanks.

Like the idea, but not certain it would pass a food inspection. Rope would retain germs and fraying strands could fall into food. Any idea to speed up harvest short of a 40,000 dollar harvester machine is worth looking at, but having dealt with food inspections for a while, I'm not sure this would pass. Kuddos for the idea! Would have been a great addition to this video to have a local food inspector look at it and mention any concerns.

it looks like an interesting tool, but i do wonder if it will deposit micro scale shavings from whatever material that rope looking thing is? im sure its some type of plastic. Might not be a big deal but if your selling this commercially then you should get some of the product tested after harvest to make sure its not contaminated with any micro plastic deposits. just my opinion
@nickys55784 жыл бұрын
lol was about $170 a year ago now is $560 Also in many USA area you can run into the problem of the nylon ropes used on this device. but even putting your microgreens in sealable anythings for sell can force you to get an industrial kitchen or shut down but if you have it in a basket or container and people grab and weight outta that what they want you are fine.

@Fractal2276 жыл бұрын
I watch this and immediately i think to myself that this is massively over complicated, thought bear (?) in mind i know NOTHING of farming micro greens i just follow along. But why not make an height adjustable cutter like you have now, that runs a fishing wire with an top enclosure. And than above the cutter add a (english english...) vacuum sucker to remove all the cutted micro greens and transfer it to a basket / container under your work slide-table-area. Add a table switch to turn on the cutter and vacuum sucker and you're good to go. I don't think it would be hard to create. You could also add some upwards blowers to make sure that the side of the trays are also cut and blow greens that would fall towards the top sucker (giggle)

Can't help but notice the tremendous amount of waste that is made by using that harvester though. There is microgreens all over your floor, more so than when you are harvesting normally. I have seen in other videos as well the same issue where using the harvester tends to spray microgreens all over the place.
