Payton are you a believer in loosening your drag as more line is pulled out? The theory is the friction of the line in the water is additional drag and thus u must loosen it on reel if u want a consistent drag amount and not break line.

In TX there is no upper limit on redfish? Here if FL if over 27” they consider it a breeder and must release

You can't keep bull reds in Texas. Honestly, you wouldn't want to eat the bigger older ones. Slot size seems to fluctuate, but currently, keeper reds are 20-28in, and you can keep 3 a day.

In texas we can tag one over 28” per year, typically used for that one just over slot catch

You are allotted a single tag on your license for red drum over the limit (although they really don't taste great beyond the limit anyway)

I only ever kayak when it's calm all the way through, but to answer, I usually notice a change at about 150 yards. Surfside is a very flat slope.
