The NES version was so much more difficult. But it was mostly due to stiffer controls, not because it's inherently harder. You couldn't just pelt the aremers with knives before they could do anything, they would ALWAYS fly spit and attack or dance before dying. Also the reason they want you to beat the game twice is this game was a COIN EATER. Youngins dont understand arcades in 202X, but they wanted you to die as much as possible and just buy more lives. It was the start of Pay To Win.

Huh, so this is the arcade version? I've only ever played the NES version and this version definitely both looks and sounds better. Is it by any chance better from a gameplay/game design standpoint, or is it purely a graphical and audio difference?

I've heard the nes version is a lot easier to manipulate because it's much simpler. The NES version also runs like trash compared to the arcade.

There is definitely some differences here and there but overall this is easily the better version.

That's a 1CC if I ever saw one. Nice one. Also, is there any chances of the links for the streams where you and DSP went head to head on the switch version of GnG?
