It's crazy how they went. It's probably hard to believe now but back in the day nobody really wanted them. A lot of the 90s Japanese sports cars were thought of that way in the sort of early-mid 00s.. there was an influx of imports and there were plenty of them around. Believe it or not I remember seeing Mk4 Supras for sale in the local classified "bargain buys" which was for cars under £1200. I remember a silver one.. I think it was the non-turbo straight six and automatic but even so. Still probably worth a lot more than £1200 today. I thought about buying it but figured not worth the hassle. Same thing with 300zx and GTOs etc. I never owned a Mk4 but I had a bunch of Mk3s. I was always more into the 80s styling. One of the Turbo ones I owned I got it in a swap. I gave the guy a 1.8 Sierra that I paid £450 quid for and welded the diff up in it. Back in the mid 00s Mk3s were two a penny. They tended to give a lot of headgasket issues.. overheating, pressurising etc.. apparently they hadn't been torqued down to the right figures in the factory. But if they were done right, with the TRD steel gasket and ran on coolant, they were fine. I know people who owned both and said the Mk3 was by far their preferred car out of the two.. the Mk4 obviously had the power but the Mk3 was very underrated. Great drivers car. I had an FD3S RX-7 that I paid about 6k for drove it for maybe 6 months and sold it for £6500. That was a high price for an RX-7 at the time. Nobody wanted those either because of the rotary engine.. people were afraid of it as it was different. Mine was a rare efini model.. was fitted out with red leather, rear seats, lots of special factory extras. Lots of old JDM cars have went crazy prices in recent times. AE86 are another example. I had a bunch of them.. back in the 00s there was lots of them in England. England got UK version ones that were essentially even nicer finished GT Apex, with LSD, nice colours, lovely 80s tweed like interiors etc. They were just seen as an old Toyota in the late 90s and early 00s though. £500-£1000 cars. I still have one today. It's stuck away in a storage shed. I want to sell it just haven't got round to taking it out, getting it ready and advertising it.
