This is how you recharged an RC plane in the old days

RC planes have changed a lot in the past decade or two so in this video Ron shows us how we used to use liquid electricity to power our old models. Just a little mid-week air-time in spring at the Tokoroa Airfield in New Zealand

Old days?!?!?! I call this "every Sunday weather permitting"!!! Did my Diesel and Cox apprenticeship decades ago (still have the scars) good to see the noisy and smellies still getting some love 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

It sure is still to this day my favourite way to fly. I always bring one or two glow powered aircraft and a gas powered aircraft. Very rarely do I fly one of my electrics. I just find glow so much more convenient. File the tank fly 10 minutes. Land top up the tank and fly again and repeat.

This brings back memories of when I was a little boy in Germany in the 80s. My dad would sometimes take me to the local flying field on Sundays and we'd watch the whole day.

Old day?? To this day it’s still my favourite way to recharge my airplanes. I fly electric, glow and gasoline. And by far my favourite is still glow!

Hi Bruce and Ron, I just like Ron's old plane it reminds me of my old Headmaster that I learned on back in the 70s, but we had to run a return hose to the fuel jug so we don't spill fuel. Don't you just have to love the RunCam Thumb. I do, I don't have to use my googles video anymore. Thanks again for the video and have a great week.

I loved Ron's flight with that "old" slightly beaten up Nitro plane. That brings back so many memories and smells of Nitro Methane and Castor Oil and cleaning the residue off my XCELL 50 Heli. Thanks Bruce for posting this and slightly harrassing an old man while he's trying to fuel his model plane. :-)

I remember in the 70s flying with a German club in Sundays with my dad. The wives were crocheting and cooking and the men were drinking beer and flying all day. I was only eleven and we couldn't speak a lick of German but my mom who is would translate when she could but the rest was the love of flying

Although I never saw any Simprop gear I do remember it. I know that in the UK, Mainstream was the agent for Simprop and I had a Mainstream single-channel RC set at one time. Unfortunately Mainstream went bust. Ah... happy days! :-)

No, the average .46-sized nitro/glow engine produced the equivalent of over 1,000 watts.

As a kid I used to buy diesel and glow fuel in glass bottles from the hobby shop. I can't see anyone being allowed to sell such things in glass bottles these days. But we were much tougher back then :-)
