Bankruptcy is a legal process that individuals or businesses can undergo when they are unable to repay their debts. It provides a framework for financial relief and a fresh start. There are different types of bankruptcy, such as Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 in the United States, each with its own rules and implications. Bankruptcy can have long-term effects on one's credit and financial standing, so it's essential to carefully consider the decision and seek professional advice when facing overwhelming debt.

@barnabusdoyle49303 күн бұрын
That’s absolute nonsense. The interest rate that you pay on the loan is based on the risk of that loan defaulting. Thus high interest loans have default built into the cost of those loans. If banks weren’t making hundreds of billions in profits a year, you might have an argument. The REASON people can’t get out of credit card debt has a lot to do with that 30% interest rate.

@barnabusdoyle49303 күн бұрын
lol, that’s a dumb plan. You see, the courts aren’t going to just let anyone discharge anything in bankruptcy for any reason. You need to prove yourself to be insolvent. The court can go after any non exempt asset in the course of the bankruptcy, such as a car, stocks or even 401k in some states. If the kid just graduated college, the judge would look at future earning potential in that decision as well. The argument that people would just get student loans and discharge them in bankruptcy if it was possible comes from people who have no clue how bankruptcy, or even humans work. You can discharge credit card debt in bankruptcy but people have tons of credit card debt. Why don’t they just all go and bankrupt it?

People need to stop going into college for something they have no idea will lead to a job. "Chemist" is not a job title. I agree. This idea that kids have to automatically go from high school to college is misguided. I think most people these days don't even figure out who they are and what they want to do until their 30's or 40's, but all knowledge is valuable as long as you don't go into debt for it and learning what you don't want to do is part of that process, as well.
@Calibrownsfan14 күн бұрын
Here's an idea. Instead of jumping directly into college, join the military. After 4 years you won't be in debt, your college will be free (you'll actually make a profit getting your degree from the gi bill like me) and you will have matured a lot and can make a better decision on what career field/degree to pursue. You will also have experience and va benefits for life. It's such a smarter path than going to college when you are 18 and dumb. You could even choose to stay in and retire at 38, get a pension for the rest of your life, and still have plenty of time to have a family or start a new career or whatever.

@omnipi14 күн бұрын
Dave might say “beans and rice, rice and beans” have to live below your means. That $2k/mo in entertainment would pay down all your debt in 3.5 years; that’s not really that long in the grand scheme - I have done the long slow paydown of past bad decisions too. But it sounds like you may need to find a way to get back to 7, 8k/mo in income, or that may be even harder and take longer. Unless you have critical medical or childcare costs you can do this. That said, unlike Dave, I am not above suggesting you capitalize on things like debt consolidation, forgiveness, or bankruptcy. These are in our society for a reason. But you absolutely should not do that if you can’t get your spending under control - the fact that you wrecked up MORE debt after getting your cc’s in collections means you have a “you problem” as Dave would put it. Come to terms with the truth my friend: you are making yourself poor

@@crashtestdummy1972 I agree that we should be generous and that there are many ways to be generous that don't include giving away money we may not have to give. My point is that Dave Ramsey always tells people that they must first take care of themselves and their dependents before helping anyone else, quoting scripture to make his point. I have no idea how giving money to a church or any other entity or person before paying the bills or putting food on the table will do anything other than keep a person broke and hungry. He made absolutely no sense here.

Hello I live in Sweden and I am 22 years old. I finish nursing school this summer and will be earning about 252000 swedish crowns and have about 300 000 swedish crowns in debt with a close to 1% interest. I do have 150 000 crowns in savings for my retierment and future and a emergency fund that covers 3 months worth 40 000 crowns. Should I put all my money in the debt? Or should I save in order to do a bigger downpayment in order to take a lesser loan for an apartement in the future with an interest rate of 3-5%?
@leonbergland524415 күн бұрын
252 000 is my estimated take home pay, I live below my means now and have been able to save 2000 crowns each month from my student loans.

Give yourself several scenarios. Write out each scenario and do the math to where you have the best outcome. It’s your decision on how you spend your money. Your life changes dramatically when you have little or none of your income going to pay debt. At the same time, making investments early in life allows for the greater probability of compounding growth. Sounds like you are not in too bad of shape. Chances are, as a younger person, you will need to carry debt at several points in your life. Do it wisely. Your wealth grows exponentially with no debt. Keep spending in check.

One of the stupidest things I hear from people is that bankruptcy is something to be ashamed of or “you borrowed the money so you have to pay it back”. Bankruptcy is to allow people to take risks and allow them to clean out of that risk if it goes seriously wrong. Businesses use bankruptcy for billions in loans a year. Don’t fell sorry for the banking industry because they only make $1 million bonuses at the end of the year because of your bankruptcy. Banking is one of the most profitable parasites in this country.

People should find out if “their local church” financial directors and pastors even know how to budget, and be good stewards of all that money that flows through the church. As a financial auditor I believe most competent, wise people would be appalled at the waste in the church budget… the first line in my budget is not to a local church. 😂

4:35 so does that mean even after you baby step 3 is complete. You still save in your emergency fund past your 3-6 Months? Or is he talking about that as in you always keep saving but for instance for Luxury items you ‘want’(after baby step 3 already complete I’m referring to) for example saving for a new phone you want or for a new car etc? Or do you keep saving in that fund but just limit the amount nd start saving for other things simultaneously
@VerizonCustomer-my5eh9 күн бұрын
After the emergency fund is full, it's time to pay off the house or, if there is no mortgage, save for a house or other important, expensive purchases like a car, child's education, and so forth. It's also time to start investing for retirement if that isn't already being done.

This would be a different society if piling up CASH became our #1 financial priority! So many of us live life with no long-term plan, and then when we hit obstacles, It completely destroys us!

@crashtestdummy197214 күн бұрын
Its for private student loans only that are in default. Refinancing a defaulted student loan can help it not be a negative mark on your credit and give you breathing room with a lower interest rate and new terms.

@crashtestdummy197213 күн бұрын
@lelebella3252 he's not against loans if it makes sense. Mortgage, refinancing on a car(sometimes) getting a loan to cover the difference from selling a car, personal loan to pay off all credit card etc.

The commandment to tithe, or contribute a tenth of one’s belongings, was part of the Law given to the ancient nation of Israel. However, the Bible makes it clear that this Law-including the “commandment to collect tithes”-does not apply to Christians.-Hebrews 7:5, 18; Colossians 2:13, 14.
@VerizonCustomer-my5eh9 күн бұрын
Thanks for writing this. There are some people in the comments furious because I pointed out that tithing is unnecessary, especially if a person doesn't even make enough money to "take care of the four walls," which Dave Ramsey has always said must come first.

She needs a masters or Phd to get good job in chemistry. I do not understand why people take out outrageously large car loans, especially when they don't earn that much. I also was taught that you should always pay off your credit cards every month.

That's correct. Momentum is the right word. Pronounced Momenum. You gotta be religious about it. It's not YOU deciding to not waste money. It's GOD forbidding you to waste money. Stop thinking. Just obey a higher power. Call it God or the universe. Whatever. Just don't trust your self alone
