What could this captain have done differently, to avoid so much water over the bow? 😳
@gabrielfreedman20203 жыл бұрын
First thing, tilt the motor up so the bow will get over the waves. Second, you gotta know what you’re doing before you cross the inlet. Third, you need to be on the throttle because there’s gonna be waves constantly coming at you. I’d rate him a 2

Used to put on the snap in front cover on a bow rider I used to have when going through a nasty inlet. It wouldn't sustain a breaking wave of course, but it would shed water that would otherwise come into the boat.
@jeffberlin41793 жыл бұрын
Wait for a bigger boat to come along and follow in his wake. He will break the waves and chop down for you. You don't have be real close behind but you have to be able to keep up. The very last boat in this video could have done it when that giant cruiser went by all he had to do was jump in behind. Much smoother sailing. Done it myself countless times.

Having worked in the boat industry for years in Miami when Thunderbird/Formula was in town, maybe I can answer some questions and make some comments :) > Buying a bowrider, which pretty much all have bows that slope DOWN toward the nose, is a stupid choice when a buyer knows he will be traveling places like Haulover Cut. Bowriders seat a lot of people and enable easy access to mooring lines...but are inherently unsafe and are the first boats to get sunk in bad weather. Yeah, I had a young acquaintance that got drunk and bounced out of a bowrider, and run over and killed by the prop. It takes experience and training to safely ride in a bowrider. > Pity the poor girls who are passengers when the idiots are at the helm. They get all made up and pretty and bikinied, then get thrown around and soaked like rats, and often hurt, because dummy at the wheel does not teach them to STAND to take the waves and how to do it. > Watching the morons in Haulover with far more money than brains, makes me support the idea of drivers licenses for power boats!
@justinjwolf3 жыл бұрын
If I had a bowrider here, I'd definitely want an open transom to drain all that water I just shipped by burying my bow into a wave. And I'd probably also have people ready for the pass, not lying all over the place ready to get punted without a life vest.

Having a boat is awesome! If you’re close to someone who owns one I can see why you wouldn’t consider owning one. they’re a lot of fun Main downside with boats is marina fees, storage fees and maintenance. Marinas charge hundreds - thousands of dollars in exchange for basically doing nothing other than keeping an eye on it and making sure it doesn’t sink after heavy rain if you’re able to keep it docked for free at your property or a friend’s / family member’s that makes ownership much more worthwhile. likewise having somewhere to store it if/when the water freezes where you live

@sinncier2 жыл бұрын
Well seeing how those are literally the only 2 directions to go into a wave, what do you suggest be done?
@scooter59402 жыл бұрын
@@sinncier Not true. The smoothest path is diagonal, into the wave, although you can do it in a following sea, too. If the waves are too big for your boat, you have to keep enough speed to hold your course and keep your bow up even if you bang a bit, so you don’t stuff or get turned sideways to the waves. You can’t slow too much. Following sea can be tougher, you can time the wave to ride it, being careful not to stuff your bow, but it pushes your stern around. Notice the bigger boats had little trouble. Some of these smaller boats should not have been going out with these inexperienced captains.

Have you guys ever operated a boat? You do not throttle up enough in rough seas to get on top. You give just enough throttle for control. You see these people bringing their boats out of the water and crashing back down and getting soaking wet that's because they don't know how to drive a boat. I've been doing it my entire life for almost 50 years professionally and other. Throttle jockeys get people killed. You used trim tabs to bring the bow up. You try to throttle over those waves you're going to start "porpoising" and that's how these boats wind up underwater.
