I was sadly born too late to be an avgeek during the time when the 747 was the dominant passenger aircraft. Instead, the 777 was the plane of the moment, taking me on all my holidays abroad. I feel for all the more elder avgeeks among us who are witnessing a tear-shedding moment today. Here’s to many more years of useful service for her majesty.

As a former flight attendant for Lufthansa for 33 years, my most favorite aircraft has always been the 747. Even though a little less comfortable to work onboard as a flight attendant than the A340 or A330, my countless flights around the globe with the 747-200, 747-400 and the 747-8 will always be remembered!
@eduardgenardandalis1437 Жыл бұрын
My most favorite 747 was the 747-8(00). It was gorgeous to look at (from a “787 style” wings to every elongated fuselage + every angle like the banking angle with its gorgeous wings). Although I much prefer the -8 over the previous 747 and their variants, I won’t deny there is a quirks and features contained on that model (like the upper deck, the spiral staircase found in -100,-200, & SP, the upper deck emergency doors, the galley elevator (not the elevator on horizontal stabilizer), the crew rest area, and so much more). Edit: although I found the 747 in person (probably landing at DVO Rwy 05 for a long time ago, operated by PAL), I haven’t flew it before coz in the past, I’ve usually flew are just only A320’s (together with my relatives when there is a vacation or important things). Also, I don’t have a money and a job yet. Hopefully, I’m gonna fly with the 747 (alongside with the A380 & A340) for a right time before their retirement so I’ll have an experience on them.

We witnessed the rollout of the first 747, the "City of Everett", on September 30, 1968 and the first flight of the jumbo jet on February 9, 1969. When I worked in aerospace, our offices were on Century Blvd with a 4th floor rooftop viewing of LAX's north runway which, because of length and structural integrity, was the only side for landing 747s. So much larger than other aircraft, it was thrilling to watch them float back to Earth. I also used to park at a residential high point during lunch break to watch the heavily laden, low-lying 747 strain to thunder off over the Pacific to the West, on its way to London everyday at about 12:30. Because of noise pollution, all of the expensive homes from the end of LAX runways all the way out to Dockweiler State Beach have now been removed, and the area fenced off for security reasons. Those were the days, my friends !!!

I have flown on 744s of British Airways (my first ever flight), Philippine Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines (upper deck economy). Recently I revisited my old photos and found that my last trip on a 747 was from Sapporo to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific in 2012. The chances of riding the rare 747-8i seem very slim for me.

I highly miss the the KLM 747-400 that used to operate to IAH. Sadly in 2017 KLM ended its 747-400 operations to IAH. It was very devastating because in United and Delta retired the 747-400s that same year. I never really got to enjoy the 747-400 due to family issues and being to far away from IAH. However I still have 1 memory of the KLM 747-400 taking off out of IAH doing a very sharp turn over a Starbucks over on 1960 Humble Rd near US-59S. I remember asking my self why does it have blue on top. That's when I conducted my first ever research and found out it was a KLM 747-400. The KLM was the first ever aircraft I have ever identified. But sadly my family and I never traveled much because we were poor. With the future of aviation I won't be traveling by air much.

Thanks for the video. Boeing 747 will always be remembered as an incredibly stylish, huge, powerful aircraft. My favorite versions are the 'incredibly popular' (as you rightly pointed out at the end of the video) Boeing 747-400 and the latest Boeing 747-8i. On the contrary, I never really liked the short SP version, and rather felt that they should have never built it, since it diluted the image of Boeing-747 - the large, stylish aircraft.
