Often people find themselves curious as to what Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is. While there are very many styles of jiu jitsu, perceptions, and etc.. most commonly you will see the significant difference in Japanese jiu-jitsu is the emphasis on self-defense. While we still do focus on sport as well, to keep sharp for today's expectations of grappling too, we believe self defense should ALWAYS come first..

That’s really the main issue. It’s not the techniques, it’s how it is usually trained. Before I started BJJ I trained at my friends JJJ school. Every class there had sparring including stand up, throws and groundwork. He also kept a steady flow of people from other styles (wrestling, aikido, shotokan, Muay Thai) coming through the doors so you would get different looks. Unfortunately that seems to be rare as most places have limited sparring, no competition and rely primarily on fully compliant drills.

And now you know why Kano synthesize it into Judo. Judo, like wrestling, can be practiced at 100% intensity without permanently harming yourself or your training partners or your opponents in competition. You can't do that with Ju-Jitsu or Karate. Only by going 100% in training do you know you can go 100% when it counts.

One is traditional martial art. With some emphasis on tradition, history and alleged authenticity. It's trained and practiced mostly in co-operative training as most traditional martial arts are. BJJ is modern martial art and combat sport. Akin to boxing or muay thay. While there is some co-operative training during drilling, there is very strong emphasis on live rolling that is fighting with fully resisting opponents who are trying to hurt you back. With Royce Gracie debut, BJJ won attention when it dominated Mixed Martial Arts scene. Recently it's been countered a bit by wrestling to prevent takedowns in the first place or with better BJJ. It also continues to innovate and is not concerned about "traditional" or whatever, if things work, they work. The bullshit is shaved with sparring. If you're more about learning the culture and I guess history not, go to JJJ. If you want to learn to fight go to BJJ. That is, to actually learn to fight you'll also need to supplement grappling with takedowns (wrestling or judo) and striking (boxing, muay thai).
@mikeylitchfield4651
@mikeylitchfield4651 Жыл бұрын
Well without getting into the weeds and just talking about what it is practically which I can comment on because I did JJJ twice a week for eight years. Japanese Jujitsu is a combination of all the techniques you will find in Aikido Judo and BJJ. Many of the techniques are good but the training methodology is complete b*llshit. There's very little sparring so you're not actually getting taught how to fight. BJJ covers only techniques specific to ground fighting and takedowns. There is a lot of sparring involved in BJJ so what you do learn you will develop the confidence to use. I've heard this guy talk about Japanese Jujitsu being the original and true Jujitsu that was taught in Ancient Japan in the comments. First off he has no way of actually knowing that and secondly I very much doubt that's the case considering you can go to any Judo, Aikido or BJJ school and find all of the same techniques that are found in JJJ. Seriously I have not stumbled across one JJJ technique that can not be found in a different martial art. There is nothing unique or exceptional about Japanese Jujitsu or Traditional Jujitsu.

@@emanuelevalenza9334 From what I've heard, Judo was originally known as Kano Jujutsu and was still known as Kano Jujutsu when Brazilian Jujutsu was made from it. Otherwise, you'd have Brazilian Judo instead of Brazilian Jujutsu.

@@tfcjujitsu3881 You don't actually know what Jujutsu was in its original form though. You guys just kind of larp like you do. I would also find it kind of an amazing coincidence that you teach the original and purest form of Jujutsu which just happens to be a combination of all the techniques found in Judo BJJ and Aikido without a single one unique to the form that you teach. Weird how that works. It's almost like it's a just a hodge-podge of techniques from existing styles marketed as the the original artifact or something.
@kaen4299
@kaen4299 Жыл бұрын
@@mikeylitchfield4651 You have a point about the methodology of training but your argument about needing to have exclusive techniques is absolute nonsense. All these techniques you see in more modern martial arts like Judo and BJJ derive from JJJ, this is actually basic knowlege which makes it worse. They took it from JJJ and not the other way around like you're trying to say. The difference is that Judo and BJJ actually apply them in live sparring, hence why the training methodology in these arts is better. But the techniques themselves are from JJJ, it's literally common sense too, because JJJ is much older. And yes we know what JJJ is in it's original form. But there are a lot of styles in JJJ, there is no single general form of JJJ, but the the different styles we know of are dated back to the japanese middle age.

In the cage and on the street JAPANESE JJ is number one. Jon Jones is JAPANESE JJ and a few others. BJJ doesn't work if you cannot keep it on the ground. When I fight and was a MMA champion I used JAPANESE JJ. It was very beneficial because I have my black belt in it as in Judo. This is why my DOJO dominates at these competitions.
