Don’t feel bad for the contestants. They already knew by that song, who he was, and they enjoyed living this experience being in the same contest with Dimash. I think all of them are better known outside China because of him now. Some have performed with him in China after this year, but most of them are now Dimash’s friends. He arrived as a perfect unknown contestant unable to speak Chinese, and finished being a legend. All contestants ended up loving him and being united because what else could they do other than enjoy what they love: music and singing. We can tell that because of the scenes behind the shows. They loved him so much! BTW, Dimash didn’t win the contest because the rules didn’t allow foreigners to win, he finished second, but it was a fact that Dimash stole Chinese’s souls that year. All the rest sang mostly in Chinese and in their own genre, but Dimash sang in 6 different languages from Kazakh folk music (in a Chinese song contest 🤦‍♀️) to opera. Undeniably, he was the winner for the audience. The rest sang what they could and knew. Dimash sang what he wanted. BTW (again) his 23th birthday was shortly after the contest finished. A Chinese TV channel made a program to celebrate it with Dimash who received that day tons of gifts (also from other contestants), but the producer of the contest (If I am not wrong) gave him a Studio with the best equipment as birthday gift. (That’s why he often works in China) I think that shows how much they all ended up loving him. He really touched their souls. ❤ from Spain 🇪🇸

The contestants were all established professionals popular in China already. All were invited to come. No awkward auditions. As a result, they were very welcoming to Dimash. He formed many good friendships despite the language barrier. The whole show was top notch.

He did that because in a talentshow you MUST show your skills. And don't feel bad for the others. This was in China and Dimash was the first outsider. So he was for the first time in his life second,, the world is not a fair place. But during a interview on that tvshow Dimash said that he did not care being 1e or 2e but only did wish that the people would like his music. After the first round of that tvshow Dimash was worldfamous. She is very good but not better as Dimash but Sandy Lam was the winner.

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly". This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific parce. The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself. The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music composition and different lyrics (Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance). But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer of this new version. She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration. Adagio had a fantastic version in the early 1700s. Albinoni is favourite. There wasn't any lyrics to this masterpiece at that time. When my mother died in 1992 I made it play on her funeral ,it's my favourite classical piece evvurrrr.❤❤ So Dimash bringing life to it is❤

Mr. Boyd, Dimash plays seven instruments, and sings in 14 different languages. He has a 7.7 octave range, wider than anyone this century... possibly this millennia. This performance was from the 2017 Chinese I Am Singer vocal contest; he was only 22 years old. At the age of 5, Dimash was accepted into the most distinguished music academy in his country. Now writing his Doctoral thesis for a PhD in Musicology/ Composing, received all his degrees with honors while simultaneously filling arenas and maintaining his performing career, a first! He has a bachelors degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and is about to complete his PhD in musicology this year.

What’s impressive to me (well, one of the many things with this performance), is that he didn’t know much English at this point, so he learned the song phonetically. He speaks English much more fluently now, but at the time he didn’t. Not an easy thing to do.

The other contestants are all established singers already so it’s not like X Factor or American Idol type show. When Dimash appeared first on week one, completely unknown to anyone there, the singer called Tia Ray performed second. I watched her performance to see how she coped after S O S and she sings beautifully. She became good friends with Dimash as did some of the others.

All the other contestants loved him, he has such an endearing personality that even with the language barrier they developed friendships backstage and because he was the youngest they took great care of him. In fact the only person who showed signs of envy was Hua Chenyu. The backstage footage from this show is so great and to see him go on to perform duets with some of them after the show was wonderful too. In fact the jazz trio with Tia and Jam is still one of my favourite performances.

Normally id 100% agree with you that if Dimash is singing a cover, its most definitely better than the original, however, as GREAT as this performance was, i cannot say its better than the original. I highly recommend you check out, Lara Fabian, who wrote this, she is JUST AS emotional as dimash if not more so, plus dimash looks up to her and are friends. I got introduced to Lara Fabian after Dimash, so i was very late with her, but OMG she is AMAZING! And in my opinion on the same level as dimash with her voice (not the range)

I wouldn't say his version was better than the original (which was written and sung by his hero Lara Fabian), but his version is possibly more dramatic! Listen to Lara sing it, it is truly fabulous. She brings a more feminine (yet strong) dynamic to the song which it needs. It is really a song sung by a woman to a man - so that might be why it's not as believable when he does it. For me, her truth is expressed in the song. Dimash can't quite capture that in this performance. He still gives me all over body chills at the end though!!
