They are together on the same stage because they are all gospel singers whom Bill Gaither gets together for a "Homecoming Friends" concert. Bill Gaither had the idea a long time ago to get big names in the gospel singing world together to sing hymns and convention songs and then he video taped them for posterity. It became very popular and he has filmed dozens of these concerts. I am so glad he did as many of the great names in gospel music have died. This is a great way for people to enjoy all of that great music. There is usually a theme for each video. This one is modeled after the old tent revivals and I believe it was filmed on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library.

Bill Gaither has congregated the best of the best gospel singers for years. (Started in the 70’s and 80’s). Most are found on you tube under Gaither Homecoming. They’ve traveled world wide making videos. The singers are famous in their own rights. Some sing in groups (trios, quartets, etc). Bill gathers them together and the results are like what you just witnessed. I have followed such singers since the 60’s!! (I know. I’m old)

Here’s an analogy to help you understand. It’s like making a cake. Marshall Hall and the choir made the batter and the foundation of the song (the cake itself) and then Angela Primm and Jason Crabb put a lot of icing on it.

OK, so a tent revival is an event that used to be very commonplace, especially in the south. Churches would have them and they were usually held out in the country under a big tent or a pole barn and people would come from mile around to hear the gospel being preached and to get saved. There would be lots of music and oftentimes there would be a traveling preacher preaching a sermon. The revivals were held at night (because it was cooler then and the revivals were most often held during the summer months). They would take place over several nights and each night there would be different singers and preachers and it was a way for the locals to fellowship and come together and worship, because it was open it anyone who wanted to attend. They don't have them much anymore - people have gotten to accustomed to comfortable seating and air conditioning and aren't very interested in being hot and uncomfortable for hours on end (because they would last well into the night), no matter what the message or purpose for it is.

Jason Crabb before going solo sang with his family, The Crabb Family. His father Gerald Crabb has written and perfomed many wonderful southern gospel songs.. Suggest the song Through the Fire, written my Gerald and performed by Jason. They are from Beaver Dam Ketucky.

I see David Phelps and Wes Hampton singing in the background. Every single one of the people on that stage can sing, including the pianist. So many glorious songs from every single one of them and many of them have musical families as well. It's a musical filled rabbit hole that takes you on an awe inspiring journey.

Please, I beg of you, react to "I believe in a hill called Mount Calvary" it's by the Gaither Vocal Band, but it's Guy Penrod, Mark Lowry, Bill Gaither (of course) and David Phelps.... they're in the Atlanta Stadium and there are big diamond shape things on the stage behind the singers. You will absolutely love Guy Penrod and David Phelps in this one

Bill and Gloria Gaither have held these Homecoming Concerts for over 30 years. It is generally called Southern Gospel with everything from hymms to toe-tapping high energy songs. You reacted to David Phelps a while back and he is part of these concerts. May I suggest you react to "Let Freedom Ring" by the Gaither Vocal Band. David was a member of the GVB for this performance. That concert was filmed a little after 9/11 and had first responders in the audience.

Yes. Also Bill and Gloria were legends long before the Homecoming Series started. They've been impacting music since the 1960s at least. Elvis recorded many of their songs too

It's a throwback to the old tent revivals that would go weeks and weeks, as the Holy Spirit moved. The genre is Southern Gospel. This particular variety has some undertones of Black Gospel. All of them are very talented artists in their own right (traveling and appearing in churches) and compiled by Bill and Gloria Gaither for performances.

Tent revivals were common in the 20's, 30's and 40's. Preachers would pitch a tent and preach with gospel singers. You need to check out David Phelps and his daughter singing "Water"!!!

This was performed at the Billy Graham library in Charlotte NC. Franklin Graham asked Bill Gaither if he would bring the Homecoming Group to perform. So they sat up a big tent. And dressed in clothes from the 40's and 50's.

Tent Revivals were where Preachers like the late Billy Graham would come into cities and pitch a gigantic tent. They would hold church service including music. A lot of the singers in this video were dressed up like back in those days.

A tent revival is a church service held outside under a very large tent topper with no walls. The gospel of Jesus Christ is preached. The reason you had different types of vocalists is that each is praising the lord in their own way with the gifts God has given them. Each is appreciated with their unique voice...it is not a competition. Love your music reactions.

You need to do No More Night by David Phelps. This man is anointed by God. David sings He's Alive from this same tent revival . It's a must see. If you look closer you'll see The Oak Ridge Boys in the crowd behind the singers . The genre is Southern Gospel. A tent revival is a place where Christians worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.✝️
