The biggest misconception about Duchamp's ready-mades is that there was irony within them. They aren't a joke in any way. And you can easily tell from his chocolate grinder drawing.

I've had very little respect for this guy's opinion throughout the series but he's just destroyed any dregs of respect I had for him when he describes the work of the Situationists as rubbish. It was an intelligent art movement using the language of the capitalist, consumer culture to explore and criticise what it is to live in that society. It was work for the people, not in the stuffy separatist environment of the art gallery but in the public domain.
@adambrace51274 жыл бұрын
just wanted to add here that Matthew has been made aware of this withdrawing of respect from Werewolf906 and he's absolutely crushed. He has been considering whether to cease all of his art related work both as a painter and critic, but he's decided to struggle on

@@adambrace5127 While I would like to argue the finer points of how influential the situationists were on art movements such as the Grafitti Art scene or ironically, marketing and graphic design - I'm no longer a teenager, like I once was when I wrote the original comment so have learned the futility of internet comment sections. Have a good day demolishing children on the internet with your boomer wit.

Interesting perspectives - from the outside and the inside. Philosophically speaking (mine - read it), the whole era nicely represented Continued Universal Human Cluelessness (which my philosophy (well worked-out - so again, read it) is a direct response to). Thanks, art.

I have a grandson and we watch a lot of tv kids tv shows. A lot of them are made with very poor modern art imagery which really annoys me. Seeing kids being brain washed with modern art imagery . I try and look for older kids books with pictures of more skillful art works to give him an appreciation of quality art.

must've been one obscure song with a copyright which muted the whole damn lot of this episode across the youtube frontier. how frustrating. i hate modern art. its rubbish. lots of narcissistic arseholes getting so deeply involved with themselves becoming important and maybe rich by selling some confusing image to lunatics for massive money. because lunatics want to, or want to buy a plastic boat, or a plastic helicopter while millions die hungry, condemned forever. id rather build a garden shed and never talk again. but i confess i like beauty even if the takes on it can be obscure and provocative.

Can,t stand Modern Art .There should be 2 schools of Art . One for those who want to play around with it as a Novelty ,maybe like therapy like weeding a garden and another school for those who want to learn the technical skills and treat it like a fine Art where you have a life long learning endevour to develop technical skills - a bit like learning a classical music instrument
