pWhen I was 4 yrs. old my mother not knowing the Bible stories or anything else about Biblical teaching, told me about our Father's magnificent world/creation and how He had created it just for us. My eyes were opened to the beautiful world around me. I'll never forget how I began to walk around seeing the beauty of the natural world around us. This was my spiritual awaking that has sustained me the rest of my life. I sing this hymn with more vigor than I do any other hymn for that reason. I should explain that Mom grew up where their church had been closed by the Communists, and so the only instruction in Christianity that she got was from her parents.

This song entered my recollection tonight and I just learned how unfortunately his death was. A very simple melody, but extremely catchy. I always thought this was a German, or Anglican song, but it was a New Yorker. It was a very different world back in 1900. Rest in peace Babcock sir!

Thank you. I grew up singing this hymn in the United Church of Christ and it has always remained my favorite. I believe it spoke to me because though I often question our existence and purpose, I always feel closest to our creator and at peace in the beauty and magnificence of nature. It’s comforting. Enjoyed learning the origin of this special hymn.

Luke, this hymn has resurfaced for me in the past few days and has helped me during some growth in my faith through teachings of the Holy Spirit. A friend sent a link to me yesterday and in God’s timing and grace, I watched your video today. I did know and sing this song in church when I was a child, probably when I was in the 3rd grade c.1963. I hone in on this date because it was when I first chose Jesus as my Savior. He had chosen me long before that. 😊✝️ Your channel is a blessing and I will be checking out your other channels. Lord Jesus, please continue to use Luke in his ministry for you. Bless him as he blesses those of us that listen to his work. In your precious name, the holy name of our Lord, Savior, and reigning King. Amen.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful hymns. I am 73 years old and well remember virtually all of these old hymns from my childhood that you have been sharing . Remembrances of Church camps and church services in the 1950’s and 60’s. It saddens me that these songs are largely no longer sung as newer contemporary devotion songs have replaced hymn books for projection technology. Most of the newer hymns Just don’t bring me the same emotion and edification as those old hymns. I especially enjoy your delving into the writers stories of who wrote the hymns. Your work is a soothing balm to me. Thank you.

I came to know Jesus as my Savior at a young age. I was being convicted by sermons, things in my life and this Hymn in particular after hearing it presented as a solo one Sunday night. That night I couldn't get the song out of my head. As I was in bed, looking out my window I asked Jesus to save my soul. Since that time I have waxed and waned in closeness to God but never denied Him. As my days grow shorter here on my Father's world I still think of, and sing to myself this Hymn often striving to grow closer and learn more about his wonderful creations.

This was a hymn often rendered by the robed choir (aka The English Choir) at my local Baptist Church (in the Cameroon's). I guess back in the day, the mass congregation couldn't muster the skill of doing justice to such a complex, yet power hymn! However, these excellent choristers always offered a thrilling rendition of this song on special events such as: Fathers Day, Child Dedications, and Baptisms. Listening to it gave me goosepimples back then, and even now! Pastor Luke: Your notes on the piano today, are simply an act of genius... queuing so seamlessly the melody and message of this beautiful hymn onto every attentive heart...
