This is My Modded Wooting 60HE Keyboard (It's BEAUTIFUL!)

In this video I show how I modded my Wooting 60HE gaming keyboard. I lubed the switches and stabilizers with Krytox 205g0, swapped the case to a Freebird60 olive colored aluminium case from KeebsForAll and put a nice Japanese keycap set from ePBT (enjoyPBT). To complete the build I got a custom straight cable from Unicorn Cables.

@@jerrorr thank you! gonna be a couple months waiting just due to shipping but 100% gonna be worth it. the only issue is trying to find a cable that is compatible, both power and theme. there was one i had looked at but it is a little too long and the kb would just turn off. someone on reddit explained it to a level that makes complete sense but is highly frustrating. the cable does not match the build colours at all :

@@catharsisDED where are you located? Safest bet is to get a straight cable like the one I got from a custom cable maker or maybe one of the wootings own coiled cables could work? Have you checked them out?

@@jerrorr canada! The issue is that i have a pastel purple & white on black keycap set and pastel purple case. makes it reallyyy hard to find a cable that accents it properly. there was one i found on CableMod and also one on amazon but they were 1.8m and 2.0m

I found breaking the rules really helped with this board. The Lekker Switch has SO much room for the stem to rattle around in, giving it a very 'lego' plastic sound. I took my brush, Krytox lube, and press the stem in each switch down with the other hand/tweezers. I lubed all four inner walls of the switch housing surrounding the stem. It now dampens the sound insanely well, and has zero noticeable effect on travel time, at least for me, and I play on this thing 24/7. Instantly takes the keyboard up a few tiers by getting rid of that smacking plastic sound the factory Lekker switches have. I know enthusiasts will have me at the stake, but I put quite a lot of lube on to fix this, and it worked perfectly for me for the past few months since doing this mod. Edit: This mod helps make it Thockier, not clackier, just in case anyone wanted to know.

I think the mounting holes on my fb60 were not machined right, as i'm able to slide a the provided screws (and the 60he screws) in and out with no resistance...spent so long trying to get it to screw in -_-

In the video you did fit the wooting PCB into the Freebird60, but was there any resistance or any issues getting the wooting PCB to fit into that Freebird60 case? I think I'm gonna for this Freebird60 case here once they allow pre orders again, looks great

No resistance at all but one of the mounting holes did not align properly when the usb port was on the right place. I used only three of the four screws but honestly it sits really firmly. For the price the Freebird60 is a good pick, since you get a case and some dampening silicone with it as well! I recommend you use half of the wooting foam (top layer) with the silicone.

Don't think that will steer me away but I was also considering the POSEIDON PSD60 case as well. Having a tough time deciding between the 2. I like that this typing angle sits lower than the POSEIDON PSD60 case

@@dude9237 yeah i was surprised by that since no one has mentioned it before on the wooting discord either. It makes me think that it might be a tolerance issue on just my freebird case 🤔 but the amount of screws does not really matter performance wise and in o-ring mounting you don’t tighten the screws all the way anyways.

@@jerrorr not sure if you set your wooting switches to a lower actuation around the 0.1mm or so but I’ve been told that the freebird60 may introduce some flex which can potentially impact the ability of the Hall effect switches? Have you ever had any weird accidental key presses perhaps mid game/typing or anything?

@@dude9237 I have no idea how the freebird case in particular could cause any flex that would cause issues. It is like mounting to any other case. Those issues you described are only possible if you change the plate which wooting does not recommend (but I don’t get how that is related to the freebird case)

I modded mine with sidelit keycaps and replaced the strap with a short chain with a Witcher wolf medallion.

No I have not! You could do that if you get sets with the same profiles though.

why did you put southfacing on switches ? should I do that after lubing or depends what kind of keycaps are we using ?

I explain it in the video, but yeah put them southfacing if you are using Cherry Profile keycaps. If you are using back-lit-keycaps put them northfacing. It is just a precaution for any possible interference with the switch housings and the keycaps. Cherry profile is meant to be used on a southfacing switch.

true! But luckily there are other cases that fit. For example the MOJO60 from melgeek seems to be on a huge sale now. Check the list from my description and it has the store links!

yeah did not make much difference from what I see, the stock one is perfect and after you added your own keycaps it sounds worse idk how, if it feels better then this might be worth it but the stock one looks sounds and feels pretty good

It’s hard to capture the difference it made with the mic I have, but the difference in person is really really noticeable. The stock sound was hollow and clacky, but now it’s more thocky and quiet. It sounds quite weird in my sound test ngl. Btw I used the same keycap set in before and after soundtests since I did not order the board with caps.

Be honest, do the switches actually need to be lubed? I feel like adding a case like fb60 and new keycaps would be all you need.

@@jimmyle3246 of course they don’t have to be lubed, but I am so accustomed to the feel and sound of a quality custom mechanical keyboard that I can’t stand typing on a non lubed one.

I don't know why tofu discontinued their case because a bunch of people are probably buying the wooting 60h and probably are looking for a case and probably want to buy the tofu because it's the most recognizable one I guess and that will give him some money so why would they discontinue it if they give money
