I couldn't agree more about the typing red flag, pretty clear who takes the key seriously and doesn't by their demenor. My buddy and I also have started not summoning people to dungeons because we've found if they're too lazy to get to the dungeons they're too lazy to do mechanics and play their character at a high level. So that's my big red flag as well.
@heythereguysitsMetro

Ya, I agree about the summoning thing too. I wouldn't really think of it as they are "lazy" and that would mean they will be lazy with mechanics. Its actually worse than that in my eyes. They instead are just totally self-important. They COULD go to the dungeon, but why should they? You should just port them there. Their priorities are more important than the key they just joined, after all. And where do we see that self-important mentality be the most problematic? When it comes time to STAY IN THE DUNGEON after some things go wrong. If their time is too important to justify traveling less than a minute to a dungeon, they certainly are going to be the first to leave when they feel like their time is being wasted.

@@zizthesin hearth is a very short cd now. You have guild cloaks, the dungeon portal, dalaran hearth and of course dragon riding. I don't mind waiting the extra minute it might take you to get there at all. But some one asking for a summon is some one I do not trust to care about the key they just joined.

Honest to god red flags for me in keys: 1. A DPS criticizes the tank right after I start sweating bullets physically over the tank. It probably gets worse from there, 50/50 chance and by worse I mean brick imminent. 2. I have to dump heals into one single DPS player more than the tank just to keep the run going and if I stop, they die every other pull almost. This is basically a ticking time bomb brick. Either someone else is gonna see a complete carry is in the group (these DPS I have to spam heal are usually below tank) and leave or I'm going to leave because I don't feel like hand holding just for a depleted key. The fact that people see a DPS below the tank and just keep going kinda blows me away.

Meh, I like talking before keys. It's always fun to have some friendly banter before, or even after a wipe. You can make friends that way, at least I did. Found a DH just last week and we did a couple more keys together. Perhaps I am doing way too low keys to be at the "no talk" level ( doing 24s) but for me even if it's a deplete it's much better when you can just laugh it out. Like, we had a deplete in DHT 24 on the First pack, the mage ( it's always them) was doing less damage than the tank, dirs and immediately leaves. And since we had some banter at the start I ask "Anyone for the 23? :D" They ended up staying and we timed it. If you get to a level where no one is supposed to talk then I might go and play some single player game tbh. Then, when the talk is extremely dumb ( I am high, suck my D) then yeah, I agree, red flag

Predictor is if if a route is linked in a low key. Or if a strat calls for a skip that the timer does not require. Especially if it fails. Talking doesn’t really predict anything alone. There has to be other factors. Like ilvl, score comp for the affix. Overly expecting perfect play and unwillingness to adapt is 100% a predictor of a failed key if you can just find out how to establish this expectation. If I was the person you were talking to and you would tell me "Use your interrupt more often", in case I did use my interrupts anyway, which also happened to me at some point as a matter of fact, then I would consider it unfriendly especially because you seem so confident in the fact that I did not use my interrupt often enough, while I may think I did. The other week I was in a group for Fall +18, and the last person to be invited was a tank.. we got a DH and immediately as he joined he says "I'm so tilted, I lost all my gold" "I don't even have enough to repair ffs" .. and then he got removed or left before the key started.. if he didn't I would have left 100%.. why even join a key when you are tilted and can't even afford repair like wtf??

As someone who is doing 0 to 3,000 IO on every class, I think the biggest problem is that you're speaking from a "higher" key point of view. You have to understand that once you get to the 3,000 IO (which is like 22-23 every key), you're hitting an "I'm going to TRY" point, not an "I will try enough to finish the key" in levels 11-20. I do think that for people who are struggling or want to reach a higher level of key, they are going to approach keys like this and judge them as if they are 3k+ IO players, not someone attempting to gain experience and perform better from a lower IO skill level. Take all keys with a pinch of salt. Many people I've met in the 3k+ IO range are trash-talking memers, but when push comes to shove, they do perform to the standard I would expect from the players I choose to be with. Remember, it's a game, not your career. Stuff happens, and if people are so worried or upset about pugging, then don't pug. Find a community, guild, or friends to get better with, or use your own keystone and don't join random groups. That way, you have full control over your experiences pugging with people.

@@heythereguysitsMetro Thats my bad Im more of a speaking person than a typing. Everyone's had different experiences, cultural and ingame and from someone who plays on EU alot of UK people just banter about before keys. I think its all about your view on the persons choice of words example with the guy who said my dick hurts is probably a childminded person or someone whos attempting to be funny. But most people "yo/hi" / "banter" > get to dungeon > wipe/brick/time key > go on your day. Sorry if I came across rude or ignorant wasn't my best comment as i said before speaking is my strong point. (The easiest way to add some form of fix is to add a soft-reset to keys) Example: you do a 22 AD someone leaves at the start or before the first 5 minutes theres a peroid where the person who owns the key is allowed to keep the level but isn't allowed to swap or lower the level of the key if they choose to keep its current level. Which would allow them to keep the key at its level but wouldnt allow it to be abused.

Hmm interesting. If there is no talking, at all, it means there is also no fighting right? I don't really see how the default opposite position could be true. I suppose it is of course crucial WHAT is being said, but to me anything being said is usually a predictor that something negative might also be said eventually, and that will be the end of a key. A route is not something you need to worry about in a 23 though. Just follow the tank and do your best. Most dungeons don't feature much wiggle room now. Perhaps that's the difference though. I'm coming at it with 6+ years of pugging experience, and coming from a landscape where there honestly WAS a lot more to talk about back in the day, especially in s1 of Shadowlands. Personally I disagree that typing of any form before the key is a red flag, but I will grant that I'm biased as I'm known for chatting and trolling a bit before keys. To me it's more a red flag when people are just standing around (usually in Valdrakken) demanding a summon or they're off somewhere in a random area asking for people to wait "cause they just need a couple more minutes to farm this mount/achieve/etc" I don't mind people asking for summons because they need to go to the bathroom or they were out doing something else before the key and it's quicker than hearthing and running as long as people are ready to go when the group is full (exceptions for bathroom breaks or other reasonable irl disruptions) I don't mind a bit of chatter. It's a social game, I'm not always in the mood to socialize but then I just ignore and only respond if there's questions directly for me.

Another red flag for me as a tank main in keys is dps being demanding about routes/pulls (i.e "do this like that cause that's how I like it") questions and suggestions are fine imo but as soon as they try to dictate what or how I pull (especially because it usually means they're going to pull ahead of me which is my biggest pet peeve). It may be just an ego thing but imo if you want to control the route just play the tank.. and if you intentionally pull you can fucking tank it yourself.. so many warriors charging in before me I start laughing in frustration everytime I watch them die to it

One thing about talking before key. You would be surprised how many people don't give a sh#t even on higher keys. If you tell them to "clean together" on last boss in TOTT you are telling them something obvious they should do, but guess what if you don't tell them, then they don't do. Or just stop for casting 1-2 spells because that wouldn't hurt, right? I think the "right amount of talking" is completely fine, especially for things which can save normally 1-2 mins during the run. E.g. Yazma positioning / if tank marks it, etc. If you play with a premade on DC thats a different story, but imho you do need to communicate a bit in order to succeed with pugs.

I get that perspective for sure. It's just to me, I feel like your example can back fire as much as it can succeed. Say "clean together" and the person may either ignore you and cause a fight afterwards, or worse. They will disagree and then a real issue starts. Where as saying that is totally obvious and they should know to do it already. I think the percentage of there being a disagreement is higher than there people players who need your instruction on how to do those mechanics, is all.

Edit: I mean it depends on the content of the "chatter" ofcourse. The Chatter you had in the example shows you are playing with some 12 year old. I have the exact opposite experience so far. I am actually the person who types the most usually. Because I am not playing League of Legends where typing is some sort of inofficial war crime and I highly dislike the fact that people think the way you do about typing. I do not want that League of Legends experience. I do not type during fights though, unless it is crucial information. People who do not talk on the other hand, oftentimes just leave as quickly and as quietly as they joined the moment anything goes remotely wrong. And I have not even played anything as high as you so far, as I am a rather new player to the game. I never left anyones key, nor did I give up before someone else gave up and bricked the key by leaving (saying this because of me being someone who likes to talk to people in the game, as I said). I also rarely insult people in chat or am unfriendly. If people being aholes, I may get mad eventually though. Therefore I had one or two occasions where someone was unfriendly towards me and made me kind of explode at some point. But I am not gonna type anything negative if you are friendly, as in "You are so bad" or whatever. The only things I write *during* the dungeon would be strategy related to finish the key in time, with the current group in the current circumstances. If the current circumstances means having a DPS with 2 broken hands then that's what it is. I do .. and I dont do anything about it,.... but! I expect them to be the one to mess up >.< .... 2) if someone starts getting salty about something b4 the key even starts like "why the F aren't you here yet" after waiting 2 mins, yeah the key hasn't even started yet and you're acting like this. I'm going to leave b4 I'm stuck with you for 30 mins. #shouldbefun

Certainly agree with #2. If they are upset before the key starts, it will not be a key with good chemistry at all. #1 is unique though, never heard some one say that to me before. I guess I don't see many people thank each other though. But ya, first thoughts on that go to the idea the guy is struggling to get invites, and that may be for a real reason, I suppose.

If you can't ever imagine typing something silly in a video game chat, then yes, you are taking the game too seriously. That said ive seen alot of people lately who even in 20+ keys who just dont understand how shroud works but above all else my number one depleted key this season is fall. That is because i keep getting disc preists who dont understand how disc works, and they sit there and flash heal spam.

I consider it a simple greeting. I do say hi, hello, or hey when joining a group and often look for the same when filling my own group. I too don't participate in small talk, I type much to slow to really engage but will communicate things in type if that is my only option. I'm generally not super picky when filling a group but if I feel like someone is going to be a bad player and is also completely non-responsive they're out.

my personal top predictor is having a rag, azralon, or qt player in the group, theyre the first people to ? in chat, flame, or just leave even if it's clearly recoverable. i just push mid 20s but i like having convos because like you were saying its an mmo and i like the social aspects, i think failing because ppl talk is just more notable since you see people talk less often, some sort of bias, but ive heard that sentiment expressed by others too. but i see plenty of people leave who never said a word up to that point and half the time its meaner than it needs to be

Ya that's my exact thought process too. I get why people THINK they need to discuss strategies, but unless you are doing the dungeon for the first time, there really is nothing to discuss. Just do your best and adapt to what is happening as it happens. Plus, just from a psychology point of view, a lot of people talking about strategies are doing it because they are uncomfortable with the dungeon and its potential difficulty moving forward. Obviously if you are scared of certain parts of the dungeon and wishing to strategize around that, you are heavily predicting your own failure. But I'm sure that starts to matter more in a 28 than it does in my experience.
