Coffee and a book on a cold day is the way to go! Was 22 this morning when I went for a walk.

My chicken's here in Michigan are doing well! No light no heat mate! Still getting eggs! I do have a 10×20 so no snow

I've always wondered. Figured they be fine, depending on breed, but that's what their feathers are for. 🙂 Yea, mine hate the snow. 🙂

Me also, located in SW Michigan. I have mystic maran's and they won't even go into the coop at night, still laying...very hardy. No pecking order...rooster is in charge and line has been drawn. Best chicken breed I have had yet. No trouble selling their beautiful brown eggs.

Mine don't want to leave the coop either. Its in he 30's in northern Indiana

I'm assuming it's the snow on their feet

WOW! TWO (2) WHOLE INCHES of SNOW! Shocking, I tell you!
@tnthomesteading8 ай бұрын
Yea, think we ended up with about 4. I know it's not much, but that much is not normal here

Yea, I'm glad it's over. These 65-70 degree days has me looking forward to Spring. Last couple days have been cold here. 13 this morning.

Why do you put a light and heat mats on your batteries ? We get -25 without doing anything
@tnthomesteading8 ай бұрын
My understanding is fore the LiFPO4 batteries, they are not supposed to take a charge when they are below 32 degrees. They can be discharged below that, but not charged.

Nice to find you, you just came up on my feed. Do you blame the chickens, like hell no, we’re not going out there. The sun is starting to get hotter now, doesn’t take long to charge up the batteries
@tnthomesteading8 ай бұрын
Haha. Nope. Mine hate the snow! They don't mind the cold if it's not too windy. 🙂

Cool video. Don't forget that you can wipe your solar panels with beeswax, WD40, etc, and the snow will slide right off. Best wishes.
@tnthomesteading8 ай бұрын
I had done some research on both beeswax and wd40, and saw yeas, and nays, and decided to pass at the moment

What about rainx! ??
@englishrupe018 ай бұрын
@@j87waldo Rainx is actually a silicone compound, same as WD40.
@j87waldo8 ай бұрын
@@englishrupe01 gotcha. I saw some one have there's on more of a tilt and the snow just fell right off but I do wonder 🤔
