Something i saw in the video you didnt touch on: sometimes the bow man sqaures too late and sets the blade not fully squared. Thats also one of the reasons i think his shoulder goes up at the catch -> the blade isnt fully squared and when force is applied it goes down in the water (almost like when catching a crab) but shortly after the catch its squared properly so it doesnt drown too far. (Apparent around 3:10 - 3:25 ) Maybe you see what i mean @Aram Training

Yes. I absolutely agree with you! Good call Simon! I left it out in editing to keep the video "short".

absolutely, the Bow hasn't squared up at all when his hands are past his feet in the what should be the catch position. He is late, and catches up to the Catch. In any racing or training session, the shell would be tracking to the Port, with repeat corrections. COSTING TIME...

You talk in many videos about shoulders needing to have good mobility. How can this problem be identified and how can we work on it?
@rohinkanwal2355

Do a wall sit against a wall, flex your core so your whole lower back is touching said wall and the raise your arms to a 90º angle (elbow creates the 90º angle) with another 90º angle from your triceps to you side and then keeping your entires arms against the wall raise your hand up until they are straight up in a diving position. If you can do that you have. Good shoulder mobility, if not, you should improve it

Hi Aram, thanks for the vid - lots of interesting analysis/advice. I notice 🎀 bow has a very wide grip compared to stroke? Left hand almost on the loom! What effects may this have, if any? eg to his shoulder lean, approach to the catch, power imbalance between left/right side? As for your English !!! 😱 😜🤣 You could stick a bow 🎀, on bow, and call him what you like - it’s all good!! 👍🏼 👍🏼 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Good call Graham. It certainly has an effect and is largely related to shoulder girdle flexibility. The result is most likely a lack of full force connection through both arms and therefore in power applied. Nevertheless, the pair seems to be going straight. This is what makes it interesting to coach junior and U23 pairs - as their efficiency improves, they need to re-learn the stroke as a pair all over.

@@AramTraining, is the bowman too close to his work? In some strokes, he appears to shrug his shoulders to get his oar around the finish: 3:42/43. Look at where his oar handle finishes at his body compared with the stroke guy; the stroke guy's oar is towards the outer body, whereas the bow guy's oar is further out from his body, which indicates he is too close, so he sort of gets tangled. The bow guy then leans too far to bow so that when he takes the stroke and brings his hands up, you can see the boat sits up level: 3:35/57. I think if he moves his footplate to him about 4-5 notches, that will clean up a lot of things.

I don't really understant your point. Stroke is okey, bow put his hands up too soon at the catch and his blade touch the water every stroke before he enter in the water. A lot of his leg push is not efficient because of that. It is truly not the best you can see. Check the lightweight men's pair if you want to see some nice catch.

Babidi Agreed, yeah there’s a bit of check on the bow seat’s side and you’ll notice the boat is slightly dipped down to his side on some of the recovery strokes
