In today’s video, I’ll be talking about steer tire blowouts. Having a steer tire blowout is one of the most dangerous things that can happen to you while driving a semi truck. As truck drivers, we need to know how to handle ourselves in the event that a steer tire blowout occurs.

I don’t know exactly what caused the driver to veer off the interstate into the apartment complex but there could’ve been a number of different reasons. With that being said, steer tire blowouts can be very dangerous. I encourage all drivers that are not educated on how to handle this type of situation to do your own research. Obviously, things move much faster in real time and it can be very easy to panic in this scenario. Do yourself a favor and acquire the knowledge necessary so you’re prepared for worst case scenarios. Ease on the brakes , turn on the hazards , and let the truck gradually stop as you slowly pull to the side of the road. The sooner the better and don’t panic.

Trailer brake blowouts are different than steer tire blowouts. Step on gas vs let off gas. Front needs traction, so press until control is felt. Back needs to do it's thing so ease off gas and brakes until within a decent line

I’ve been driving for 24 years and blow outs will either happen to you or another driver,car or truck.Pretrips and post trips are important but also, midday trips and random walkarounds can help you too.

I’ve experienced the air line breaking off and it almost caused me to have a rear end accident. Thank God I was able to stay calm and think swiftly enough to pull my brakes since I was already coming to a stop. Another time I had a trailer tire blow out on the rear axle and had to maneuver to the shoulder as smooth as I could but it wasn’t pretty. But like you said get the knowledge on how to handle these situations, if I didn’t know how, I probably wouldn’t have a trucking career anymore. Stay safe and diligent yall
