I had a similar situation. I went out with this girl for 5 dates. I paid for everything up to that point and although we didn't do anything extravagant, it made me feel a bit bitter that she never offered to pay once. During the planning of our next date, there was an extra place she wanted to go to after the main place. But going to that extra place meant I have to pay for parking again. I told her I didn't want to go because I didn't want to pay for parking again. She flipped out, called me cheap, and said I'm fussing over a few dollars. The thing is, I didn't mind paying for parking but I was holding onto resentment that she never offered. I was hoping that she would at least step in and say 'Don't worry, I'll cover the parking'. It was a little test to see how she would react and I was hoping she would act appropriately so that I could feel better about her. She decided to call it off with me and it made me sad that to her, I was nothing but a wallet. I will admit that maybe my methods for testing her might've not been the best but it's just so disappointing that an adult can react the way she did and not even try to understand the other person's POV.

Yeah i was a waiter for about five years. Sometimes this was true, and when it was it was awful (like 5% tip or less), but otherwise women tipped just as good as men (I’m a guy). I think this was maybe more true like 10-15 years ago than it is today. Part of that comes from the common idea of “watch how he treats the waiter on the date”, so I think they’ve guilted themselves also into paying extra attention to treating the waiter well.

I married a wonderful gal from one of the Philippine provinces. She has always valued money, because her family had so little. She went through nursing school here, has her own money and spends it as she wishes. Compared to an American woman, she is very frugal. The first date my then girlfriend (now wife) and I went on, we had shrimp rotis for about $30 CAD. I happily paid for this meal and we had a blast. Today my wife does not work, she is at home taking care of our son and views it as a privilege to contribute to an upbuilding warm environment at home. She doesn’t view it as demeaning but as her way of making our home a place we can be strengthened and feel safe. When we were dating some of her standout qualities were generosity and appreciation and now I would try to move mountains for her.
