I love how artsy and elaborate it is. Every frame can be discussed for hours, the colors are deliberate, the background details are deliberate and often tell details that were inner monologue in the books… it’s very rare to see a book adaptation where the book writer is a genius and the adaptation director is a bigger genius.

Throwing in character ages. Lena & Annette are 16, with Lena turning 17 in a couple of episodes. They both come from former noble houses when San Magnolia was still a monarchy, which is one of the reasons they are in their positions at such young ages. The members of Spearhead are all 16 with the exceptions of Kaie 18, Kujo 17 and Kurena 15.

Thanks for picking this up, I should mention in most episodes there is an after credit scene, and it can be a very info heavy show so feel free to pause, rewind, or write down anything because the first few episodes are pretty dense but worth it. The dates are fairly easy to miss but help to keep you on track with the perspective you're seeing. There is an incredible amount of small hints and symbolism to the show, I'll try to mention a few if you miss any. Enjoy the ride, it is a roller coaster.

86 is a Hidden Gem, an Anime that is under appreciated and hidden by overly hyped Anime like; if I start naming anime that are overly hyped and overrated, I know that I will be chewed out. But it is true that the anime 86 is a Hidden Gem!

Well it’s a different beast, the most popular anime are usually very simple, this is heavy stuff. Reaction channels are helping bring some extra popularity to some anime that are not made for the mainstream but get super emotional, since those are nice to watch people react to or discuss

The amount of hype I've heard about 86 made me not like that first episode too much tbh. I ended up enjoying it a lot, but it was overhyped for me and almost made me drop the show

Eighty Six is exellent and VERY damn underrated series! Glad you started it)) If I remember correctly, most directors and head staff also worked with Promised Neverlend, so transitions and angles will be amazing✨ + OSTs from godly Hiroyuki Sawano🙏

The episode structure is real wonky with this show. There are episodes where the opening credits might not start til 1-14 minutes in, then there are times where there is still 5 minutes of the show after the ending credits. It is different every episode, so just accept and overlook it because this show is worth it.

The term to "86" something is American slang from back in the 70's. Now it kinda means can't find something because it's been 86'ed or thrown out. But further back it had a more sinister meaning.

86 is great! One of the best anime in recent years imo. Mecha in general is pretty underrated; if you enjoy this you should def check out more mecha, some of the newer Gundam series like "The Witch from Mercury" and "Iron-Blooded Orphans" are both very good and don't require any prior knowledge of Gundam
