Just wanna say, this is one of the only animes with a satisfying ending, a perfect ending might I add. I know the novels continue after the anime but I love where they left it, next episode is definitely a tear-jerker.

7:01 I love the visual storytelling in this show. The photo of Spearhead Squadron that Lena has is so faded that she can't make out anyone's faces (Theo had to write her a cheat sheet so she could tell who was who). But when we get Shin's perspective, he can see everyone perfectly clearly because he's been carrying all of them with him this entire time, and he hasn't forgotten a single face.

Thanks for the reaction! When Shin says he can't have Lena see him in his current state and Frederica says he's being such a boy, every couple I see reacting to this ep does so in the same way. The guy says something along the lines of "I get it" and the gal says something along the line of "should have told her!" Writer really understood that dynamic. Kurena's change of heart toward Lena is a really nice growth. My understanding was Raiden was controlling his Juggernaut via remote which is why he wasn't hurt.
@VirtuousWanderer3 күн бұрын
Yeah, from what I have seen in other comments, Raiden basically set an autopilot or something, then hopped over on Fido before the explosion.

The Dark Shin, is the inner thoughts of his PTSD and Survivors Guilt. The thoughts about that why he is the only one to survive and everyone else dies around him. Wondering that he should die anyway and have no one remember him. The word “remember,” always comes up or even “I won’t forget.” Lena doesn’t know what Shin looks like even though Lena has the photo of the entire Spearhead Squadron, but she doesn’t know the faces, only the voices from the devices (PARA-RAID). When Lena activates the Device on her neck and it connects not just Cyclops, it also connects to Shin. When hearing her voice and finally realizing who it was, Shin was surprised and happy inside that she is alive. When Lena said, “You survived and made it here, I think that’s something you should be more proud of.” Shin finally cries not the cries of sadness, but the tears of acknowledgment of him being alive, and that he deserves to live. That is what Shin wants, The acknowledgment to survive and to live that’s all he has been wanting the acknowledgment of being alive, and he has the right to survive. Every time episode 22 comes up I cry every single time when Lena talks to the pilot (even though we know Shin, but she doesn’t know) The music you’re hearing is called “ Voices of the Chord,” by Hiroyuki Sawano. The one part when she says proud of the one part of the song connects like it just hits you with a bunch of emotions. That piece of music always makes me cry when hearing it in Episode 22

I don't know why but I luv that people forget that none of them have seen each other, impossible even Raiden saw a quick glimpse of Lena, but it was in the heat of battle. At best if he was to describe her it would just be a normal looking attractive alba lady 😁 When you re-watch the scene you will see the Wall of San Magnolia in the back. It has been theorized that Shin was unconsciously running back there of some hope that maybe Lena was alive. And he got his answer

From the LN, Raiden actually survives because of the regenlief's design to have emergency backdoor exit and the moment he ejects from the mech fido picks him up and thats the reason on ep21 both fido and raidens juggernaut go separate ways.

This anime has an actually perfect ending ! This is what I thought of why Shin didn't meet/confront Lena.... He (Shin) understood what kind of weight his words carried for Lena and how she came to "catch-up" to him and the others, but Shin felt like the state that he currently is in is not what Lena should see them in .... Purely me thinking too much into it maybe but what a beatifully written and directed moment it was, it was definitely worth waiting 86 days when the show aired... And ofc Hiroyuki Sawano doesn't disappoint in the music department...

What's sad is this quietly came out in 2021 and did not get the publicity it should have. This is peak anime storytelling and animation. If this had gotten the publicity it deserved, more people would know about it and might have done more due to the public outcry and demands. This only covers the first 4 light novels in a series of 12 books. Absolutely loved your reactions and cannot wait for the final episode to come out on youtube. You are right, Shin needed to hear those words from someone and coming from Lena was all the more impactful for Shin. He always wondered why everyone left him and died before him. Well they fought to their end and died doing so. Shin always fought to the end and lived. He could never understand why, until Lena. Everyone else could fight to the end and the other be proud of their sacrifice and courage and should be remembered by the living. But Shin should be even more proud he fought to the end and lived, and could remember everyone who died before him. He was always thinking about it negatively and never in a positive mindset. Now he has a reason to keep fighting and keep living.

It did not come out "quietly," the issue is that when this show began in Spring 2021 it was overshadowed by several other anime that were really, REALLY huge at the time. Shows like Higehiro, Nagatoro-san, Tokyo Revengers, and To Your Eternity. The same situation happened again in Fall 2021 when 86 was competing against Demon Slayer Season 2, Komi Can't Communicate, Mushoku Tensei, and JoJo Part 6. The reason why it feels like 86 didn't get a fair shake is because strangely enough, all of the shows above I mentioned except for Mushoku and DS have all sputtered out and died in terms of fandom.The online discussions of them have all evaporated and it left 86 with a case of survivorship bias that it didn't have at the time of airing.

Just wanted to give some more information on how spearhead squadron survived, as it wasn't just basic plot armor. Once again the anime only hints at what happened from the LNs outright stating it. The rest of spearhead squadron were off-screen so that is easy enough, but Raiden was never actually in his mech when he saved Shin in Ep 21. The reginleifs have an autopilot mode and that was what it was on while he jumped aboard Fido to escape the blast from the morpho, that is why he is next to Fido upside down in this episode.
@leoboussami3 күн бұрын
This is untrue. The autopilot thing is a myth that people keep spreading everywhere for some reason. It comes from a tweet by Asato where she said that "Raiden survived because he wasn't even in his mech" was her suggestion in a script meeting that got rejected immediately. In the anime they literally show him inside the cockpit seconds before the shot hits. So please, stop repeating information you never bothered to verify yourself.

@@leoboussami Which is why Raiden looks a bit fucked up, bandages and all. They survived because Shin finally found squadmates that are also hard to kill, like him; as Raiden put it, "no one left you behind" this time

@@leoboussami Just like the other lie they keep spreading about how there was an 86 day delay between eps 21 and 22. No there weren't, it was a 79 days from when the delay was announced and 76 days from when ep 21 aired.

@@AICW The 86-day delay was between the announcement and episode 23 (from 23.12.2021 until 19.03.2022), so they aren't exactly right but eh, close enough. Funnily enough, almost the exact same time period passes during episode 23 itself, starting on 24.12 and ending on 20.03.
